Injury Blue Healers Discussion - 2024

Depends on your definition of conversation. If someone mentions something slightly negative related to the club the same gang of 4 or 5 people immediately post a string of ridiculing posts. Not much back and forth. It's great that people are so positive and love the club so much but it's worth keeping in mind that this is an online discussion forum next time you want to post the usual shut-down posts:

Sack Russell
Time to microwave your membership
It's only preseason
The negativity from some is amazing
Way to miss the point....again.

Maybe they are making the point that your first sentence makes. Geelong got key injuries to key players that floundered their season. We have injuries to key plyers in Weitering, Walsh, Marchbank, JSoS et al.

Port the year before got injuries to key players that floundered their season too. It's not a long bow to draw.
JSOS and Marchy are not key players....

Unavailable:

Zac Williams
Jacob Weitering
Caleb Marchbank
Jack Martin
Corey Durdin
Matt Owies
Jesse Motlop
Sam Walsh
Alex Mirkov
Jack Silvagni
* Elijah Hollands

It's not a great result heading into the season can we agree on that?

I just hope we learn from it this time around and next year place and absolute premium on getting to the start line with as close to a full list as possible. By all reports (including David King) we were going flat out in January with the most intense sessions he'd ever seen in preseason.

Then we get to March and sit around pondering our terrible luck that there's already 10+ on the sidelines again.
Owies/Durdin/Mirkov are all available

Zac Williams confirmed by Voss as playing this week if he gets through training

I must have missed something

Williams, Durdin, Owies Mirkov aren't on the latest injury report

Why people keep adding Elijah is perplexing

So, adding Carroll to the injury list makes 7 out, this time last year, supposedly we had 14 out

So my question stands, is that not an improvement?

Personally, if I had a choice of when injuries occurred, I'd rather have a healthier list heading into finals like last year

Everyone supports the club here. Nothing wrong with frustration that we have big outs in Martin, Weiters, Walsh. Maybe motlop.

It's ok for supporters to get annoyed when looking at our opposition who are tough to beat with less injuries.

And its ok for positivity dwellers to see the rainbow too. It's a forum to rejoice AND vent.

Sam Durdin also not really available to play AFL either as (like C. Durdin and Owies) he's just getting back from injury.

I am assuming Zac won't be playing AFL this week after playing one half of VFL in the past 18 months. I could be wrong but that's a pretty safe assumption.

Durdin may be a chance like Williams as he played in same VFL game.

Amen

Take me back to a few hours ago when the club hadn't put out that negative injury report.

All they've done today is critize and highlight all our injuries.

Need more positive posts please!

If I were to pick 5 players for us that we couldn’t afford to miss, I’d have Walsh, Weiters, Martin and Marchy wouldn’t be far off that list. Pretty awful result.

Let’s hope the cautious approach pays off.
yep, in a few weeks let's hope we have our best 23 out there and firing...........

We'll see who is actually is available for the AFL team shortly I guess but no way Owies or C Durdin play on no prep. Even if it was 7 - yes it is less than the 11 or whatever it was last year - but it's still not great. Even Williams if he falls over the line it's not really screaming a perfect preparation.

Walsh in particular can't be going 100% in every session from December through March. His back clearly shouldn't be put through it.

We cannot get Jack Martin through a preseason and he showed how bloody important he is to our team late last year.

Weitering - we just don't have any backup for him. Bit of a list management issue for Austin to look at. Young looks like a man with real confidence problems.

Walsh - potential Brownlow medalist missing hurts.

It's just the pointlessness that gets me. These guys are super fit. Walsh in particular is a machine - one of the best gut runners in the league. He doesn't need 4 months of hard conditioning. He just needs to be on the field in game 1. If that means limiting him against his own instincts so he's only 98% fit rather than 100% it will not matter one bit.

The positives are that we have Cerra/Cripps/Acres/Docherty/Hewett/Kennedy that can all go through the midfield.

We will also have Charlie and Mckay forward.

The Blues can galvanise everyone and play straight out attacking footy and we are a sneaky. The worse we;ve been in the praccy matches means the players will be even more fired up based on fear.

The game simply depends on kicking/decisioning making on key plays.

No, no, it was supposedly 14

So its either Williams is out injured, or he is coming back too soon

Can't keep hedging bets

None of us here have any idea what Walsh has done over preseason

MCL, but not far away either

It might be a concern, but clubs have different ways the spend money to bring a list together

I couldn't give a stuff about individual awards

It's a fair point, but supporters have slapped the club senseless in recent years for lacklustre and or poor fitness

But none of us know what the trigger was for Walsh suffering soreness

Talk of an intense match sim, which may have played out the same way in a real game

I mean Bailey Smith is an endurance beast, but suffered an ACL, overworked?

For me Walsh and Weitering are our best two players, Martin would be top 6/7 and we have no other player close to him when it comes to playing the role he plays. Marchbank is seriously underrated on this board his ability to cover the ground and help out our other defenders is unmatched in our side, he had a terrific finals series last year and the drop off from marchbank to a Young, Durdin or Kemp is massive.

I’m a bit surprised we would risk Williams for this game coming off an Achilles and knee reconstruction playing in Queensland in March with a hard cricket pitch in the middle of the ground against arguably the best team in the competition seems an unnecessary risk to be taking this early in the season.
