Not buying this theory one bit. Petroro is close friends with SOS and The Judge. Do you really think he would go down that path of Playing the club for more cash? In normal circs maybe, but not when you have a couple of mates at the club.. I would think there would be a fair level of honesty in any discussions
This didn’t make sense to
Me ether.

Patience everyone. I believe chronologically this is what has occurred.
- Cogs informed of our decision to make Teague coach
- Cogs advises club early last week following this that he would like to join Carlton and sets the wheels in motion to start finalising contract T&Cs
- Media reports start leaking, Club respectful of Cogs desire to keep dealings private until end of the year pours water on it by leaking false info to AFL and media outlets (hence new reports that he may stay put)
- Carlton send final contract to Cogs for execution and wait for end of GWS season for the deal to be announced.

Please tell me this does not make the most sense given what has occurred to date?
We will never know, but it’s fun to guess.

So I’ll add to that, after Gills comments in the media, Carlton told Gill that he said no to Carlton to relieve pressure from AFL house.

Carlton then found out on Friday Night Footy, Gill leaks information to his brother.

People need to be patient ... the season isn’t even over yet
And to be honest for the first time I can remember I’m gutted this weekend is the last game of the season. Normally when we have been out of the 8 in my life time (I’m 31) it’s been a bit of a relief, when the season ends. But I’ve really enjoyed the last 10 weeks & wish there was 10 more weeks of the season

Exactly what Teague said in one of his recent pressers.

Come to think of it, has anyone seen Teague and Brezsa in the same room??

No more sense than him being genuinely undecided, and telling clubs he's open to discussing offers but wants to focus on the GWS finals campaign first.

"(I said it) last week, the week before that and the week before that, I remain really confident that he's going to be at our footy club (going forward).

"I'm confident it's going to go our way in the coming weeks."

My guess is that because both the Hawks and the Blues' boards both received positive info from their ITKs at roughly the same time, Coniglio has informed management that he will leave GWS.

Whether it is Hawks or Blues is still up in the air. Gonna be a loooong 40 days.

Yeah doesn't look like Cogs is happening. The stage is set for a dramatic (and stage managed by the AFL) re-signing at GWS in the bye week between round 23 and week 1 of the finals.

Feels like that was the plan from the AFL and Giants all along. They love all this player drama movement nonsense make it more like NBA and US Sports.

At this point I would almost rather Cogs went to Hawthorn than stayed at GWS, least you know the whole thing wasn't orchestrated by the AFL.

Don’t try this at home:

Cameron clearly isn't a fan of the speculation that one of his stars may leave...gives more credence to the idea that GWS have asked Coniglio to quell the rumours, who in turned requested Carlton act on it.

Don’t want to be one of those guys, but saw earlier some saying who had the mail on Shiel, I don’t think anyone beat my post (Oct 1st) that went through to the keeper....

what are you hearing re cogs?

Yep folks. Now officially on board the Cogs isn't coming us.

I suspect he was initially keen to join us, but something has happened to make him change his mind (and I don't think Gil's meddling had anything to do with it)

It sucks, but life goes on..

I don't have any inside info or so called sources, it's just how I am reading the situation .

Must you be so repetitive ...

Take a chill pill & take a deep breath Alphonse!

IIRC Ben was a bit of a reach and surprise at 21...Harry was always the far better prospect.

But yeah, his complete lack of development would be a concern. North haven't developed any KPD's for years and have still been relying on Thompson & Tarrant. McKay & Durdin have barely shown anything.
Durdin is a disappointment big time. Bit of a favourite of mine in his draft year.

Whilst that is a possibility, hard to understand if he was genuinely keen to stay, why he would not have made that choice 3months ago.

Discussions with Coniglio from multiple clubs have been happening for at least a year - probably longer. That's not uncommon in the age of free agency - for any player of note, let alone a player of his stature and even greater potential.

Part of the issue around player retention for GWS and GCS is that the majority of players they draft have no connection to the club, and those clubs have no history of success or perception as a "big" brand in the AFL universe - all of which makes the discussion about keeping a player more complicated.

It's why players in those circumstances will hold out on signing until all offers are on the table and until they can really test the value on the open market. There's no negative in holding for fear of being a deserter or being disloyal - its so common for those clubs that those cultures haven't yet been created.
