Yup same negative comments were made about Tyson Stengel before he was was snapped up by the Cats.
These negative comments will be made about Jack Ginniaven & WAFL Colts Lance Collared at infinitum.
Austin misses the boat every time.
There's a fair talent gap between Stengel (and Collard from the sounds of it) and Ginnivan.

Apart from the 2015 Draft (Weitering, McKay, Curnow, Cuningham, J.Silvagni), only 3 of the 22 players drafted under Stephen Silvagni remain at Carlton - Tom De Koning, Sam Walsh & Brodie Kemp. 8 of 27 in total. Terrible record.

I'm starting to think he may have hated us even when he was on the payroll! Taking us down from the inside Sopranos style.

Difference is Tyson's talent wasn't under scrutiny, just his off-field stuff.

I'm not sold Ginni can thrive on a team that isn't literally the best in the comp.

Agree with you regards to Ginnivan although in the right team structure, with firm guidelines and nurturing reckon he’d do very well.
Collatrd the lad has not strapped up yet so yes theirs is a gap, but has potential brimming. For low cost they’re both worth a risk.
Austin has been a little too circumspect , otherwise he’s chosen very well with the picks at his disposal , refreshing & significant improvement to our previous list manager.

And ginnivan won't get the same treatment from the umps that he used to.

He isn't Nick Daicos

Maybe he's chosen well because he has been a little circumspect?

Thought that I'd have a quick look to see how that stacked up against Collingwood just to get a feel for how good or bad it actually is.

For the draft periods of 2015 - 2019 inclusive Collingwood drafted 26 players in the main draft and rookie draft. (17 main draft and nine in the rookie draft) .

Of those 4 are still on their list, 3 from the main draft (J. Daicos, Murphy and Quaynor) and one from their rookies (Mihocek)..

For the purposes of fairness we gave gad mire high draft picks so our strike rate should be better. However if you are trying to make a point uou need to give some comparisons for that point to be relevant.

But glad to see Austin has fixed a lot of these mistakes
Cerra
Saad
Hewett
Hollands (hopefully x2)
Binns
Cowan
Motlop
Acres
Durdin
Carroll
Pittonet
Boyd
Cincotta

All very good quality pick ups.

If you were to score Silvagni for his picks trades v Austin then it’s hands down Austin by about 500% better.

How disappointing. Why be like this? You have one life, one opportunity to have children and make the most of of every single milestone and event they are involved in. He can't even crack a smile or show up to a milestone event.

How nice is it for the Daicos brothers to see vision of their old man at their games, cheering and smiling like the proudest man on earth. I feel sorry that Jack seemingly doesn't have this publicly for the world to see.

In fairness, we don't know the situation behind closed doors, nor have we met and got to know Steven, but the more time goes on, I can see why he might be a total flog and why Carlton moved on. There have been rumours and stories backing it up over the years.
I've met SOS a few times, only briefly and he's a bit of an odd unit, very reserved and not very talkative but he and Jack are very tight. He's immensely proud of him.

to be fair to SOS we weren't exactly an attractive proposition the majority of his tenure

He also drafted in the spine whilst preserving our SC at the same time. Austin has been given the luxury to splash cash on non-key position players so if he does make a mistake he can easily fix it by either drafting them in or finding them somewhere else on the cheap. For example, Zac Williams recruitment has been a big blunder but you can find back flankers to cushion the blow like Cincotta or draft one in like Cowan.

If we are going to deal on Hollands, the deal will be done tomorrow...

Following up again with a comparison v Geelong. In the same drafts they took 22 from the main draft and 12 from the rookie draft. They have four from the main draft (Parfitt, Stewart, Miers and SDK) still on their list and four rookies (Henry, Z. Guthrie, Atkins and Close) still on their list. Note - I left Ratagalea off assuming he won't be there next year. So 8 from 34 selections, but only 4 from the main draft.
