Just administrative to improve our meagre bargaining position should other clubs be interested.
He won’t be at Carlton next year.
Probably a low ball contract with a minimum number of games pay level.

You could just look at the ladder leaders and premiership favourites at the moment in the Swans.

Who’s their genuine key forwards? McDonald and Amartey? Yet, look at the damage Warner and Heeney do.

Now, Cripps nor Trac have Chads speed, but Trac does have the burst and at the very least similar forward craft to match Heeney.

This doesn't fix the glaring issue we have in our midfield, especially at centre bounces.

True, but the answer isn't to fill one hole by opening another. Let's move to roles and not just 'good players'. It's Carlton's issue right there.

Fill holes but with more eloquence. Not get petracca because i have no ideas or innovation, or get oliver. etc.

Hawks found Jai Newcombe for nothing. Bombers found Durham for nothing. Both beauties.

Austin to earn his money. Should have had 2-3 years now to find a balanced/speed mid if he wants one.

Martin New
he kicked 4 against us, so 9 goals in 12 games....

Not too many midfielders score that heavily.

I think the big thing with Petracca is that there are not too many midfielders you can plonk at full forward and clear out the 50 for. Petracca ... Dangerfield ... Martin ... Bontempelli .... Heeney ... yeah, I think I'm done.

Gotta go dammit.

However, that doesn't mean we need him. It's about team balance. We don't need another Mid/Forward as much as we need a KPD. We get Trac, theres no $$ for a KPD.

We need another Mid/Forward more than we need a KPD.

And we can make space for a KPD by trading Pitto. It's a luxury having 2 x Rucks on the list. He'd have good trade value to the right side and is superfluous to needs with TDK fit.

Id assume we're looking to move Caroll to the Eagles, Marchy is probably going this year (feel for the guy), and talk of Martin leaving. No-one has really put their hand up this year for a pay rise (who we havent already got locked in) barring Owies either.

Im sure we could find the space going forward. If there was some kind of deal for Trac, we could frontload it to the max of the Cap next year to ensure we have enough cash next year (Weitering and McGovern have a few years in each still) using whatever space we have from McKay leaving.

It's not going to happen, but I'd want the club to explore it if its really an option.

Aggressively.

Laying some of that on thick 4T3.

Charlie suddenly becomes an undersized tall instead of a dual Coleman medallist and best full forward in the comp. Kemp who is a utility who has played all across the ground, becomes a defender turned forward.

TDK is a ruckman. Agreed. In the interim, Silvagni and Kemp would fill the 2nd and 3rd key forward roles. Moir would be the Martin role.

I don't imagine Kennedy would be on big money, considering he was demoted to the rookie list only a couple of years back.

I like the 4T3, sounds like I'm a droid from star wars.

Curnow is 194cm... Taylor is 198cm, Moore is 203cm, Harris Andrews is 202cm, Pearce is 201cm.
Yes Charlie is a star, no doubt, but we've seen against good teams when Harry has been out, he struggles a bit because he gets wrestled by 1 defender and is out marked if he doesn't get a run and jump at the ball.

Kemp I prefer as a forward, Moir I agree looks like the perfect replacement for Martin.

But I really think some people underestimate the impact having someone that is 204cm, is a very good contested mark, and is the quickest player over 60m at our club, taken out of the team.

Not many teams are equipped to defend two A grade forwards.

I cast my mind back to round 0 this year and remember Brisbane having to move Andrews from one to the other. That's our point of difference.

That's been the formula for most of the GF winners over the last decade, even if they aren't kicking the goals, they halving contests.

JC and Hawkins
Jack and Lynch
Buddy and Roughead
Darling and Kennedy

Some people will agree others will disagree.

But as I said earlier and McKay has specifically asked for the trade, I think it would have an overall negative effect on the club.

He's a former pick 2 with 4 years of development under his belt.

Talls take time & he's competing with a stacked defense for a game in a top 4 side. KPD's are also very hard to find which drives his price up.

Seriously, take one look at him, he's a clear project player, as if he'd walk into that GWS lineup in his first few years.

He'd be great for us and definitely worth a late 1st. Only reason I see we'd get him cheaper as if it's a bit of a 'good will' trade like some clubs do (kinda like we did with Dow).
He was taken with the Giants second pick. He wasn't pick 2.

One last thing. I appreciate those who quote and debate posts they disagree with, rather than smash the hostile looking thumbs down button. You're all legends.

I think Elijah Hollands could develop into that fwd/mid roll nicely. At least until 2026 when Cody arrives.

Leaving aside Petracca being 2 years older and suffering a traumatic injury that he has yet to recover from

There is zero medical evidence that it will impact him in the slightest going forward (other than possibly delaying his preseason next year).

All available medical evidence and the opinion of medical people on here that I trust (The Old Dark Navy's ) suggest strongly quite the opposite.

Okay, you've won me over R2D2. We'll trade Charlie instead.

Everyone, I've changed my mind. 4T3 has used a jedi mind trick on me and shown me how much better Harry is than Charlie.

We are now trading Charlie for Petracca. ObiWan's idea.

McKay is absolutely going to be all in to swap over to Melb:
  • because they have a great list
  • max gawn is young
  • they have so many great guys like lever may and kosi Pickett.
  • they’re clearly in the race for the flag before we are
  • they have finally got rid of that dud petracca.

IN WHAT WORLD IS MCKAY AGREEING TO LEAVE😂

Steady on lumping me in with medical people Mal. I nearly drank the fish tank cleaner.

Haha, I appreciate the banter mate.

As I say, I don't expect everyone to agree with me.
I would prefer we kept both Charlie and Harry and could find a trade for Tracc that included Cerra and some picks and allowed them to go get King from St Kilda

I get Curnow is a risk (with his knee).

The thing is, Petracca contributes the same score (goals + assists) as Harry does, and as we've seen over the past quarter of a century of Grand Finals, Key Forwards don't win flags (or Norm Smiths), powerful goal kicking mids/ HFF do.

As a sport we overvalue KPF's. You want a marking target, but when that's all you have it becomes all too easy for oppo clubs to predict who you're kicking to.

It's why we've actually looked better in recent weeks up forward without Curnow and McKay. We drastically reduced the times we bombed it in hoping one of them would mark it.

We're currently over reliant on the pair, and it makes it easy to defend against us.

It wont happen, but I'd do the trade if it was an option.

How did the Hawks go after losing Buddy Franklin?

That's all people need to remember. I love Harry, but if it takes trading him to bring Petracca over... I'm not totally against it.

I think we'd all prefer that... but in what world does Melbourne take Cerra (a guy who is struggling to even get on the park) and some speculative picks for a game changer like Petracca?

They will demand one of Harry, TDK or Charlie and rightly so...
