After today, it reinforces how long it can take to win a flag coming from the bottom of the ladder
You are a master of rationalising Carlton's poor performance. through false equivalence. The Lions have won 4 premierships since our last and have come from bottom once since 2000. Carlton are having their 2nd cycle off wooden spoons. Bottom 2002- 2007. Again 2015 to 2018.

They're all relative cheap and we can develop Motlop and Durdin in various roles.

We'd be competing on the open market for Owies, and he has deficiencies we can't currently cover for, similar to Kennedy.

That said, if we don't prioritise a quality small forward at the draft, we're cooked.

That we might take an overwhelming breadth of mediocrity at the position and generate a new opportunity for the list is a gift.
We’re going to give up a good goal scoring player and in return prolly get a 3rd rounder.

He may have limitations but he kicks goals and he’s not on big $$.

Keep owies even if it means paying him a bit extra and move on players under performing.

And now you start playing the poster again

Lions who won 3 merger flags, prior to today, a rebuild that started in 2013

Seriously, people using a grand final winner as a basis of what we are doing is so predictable

What do you think of the Swans being spanked today like we did against the Lions while playing them at the Gabba

Or was it that we were closer to a spoon than making the 8

My views have always been realistic, about what we are capable of achieving each year

If people want to hold an over pessimistic or over optimistic view, that's their prerogative, but comfortable how I see our club at this current point in time, or where we have come from

Agreed - it’s a dumb move unless there’s something in plan to replace him.

Lions finished on the bottom in 2017...

We did so in 2015 and 2018...

Lions started their rebuild in 2013, I've stated this consistently from 2015

Either way, no 2 clubs do it the same way, just like people claiming the Saint, Dockers, *, Suns had surpassed us in previous years

What's your early prediction for us in 25'. Believe you had us 13-16 wins this season.

They were 2nd in 2019... 6 years later... and have pretty much been top 4 ever since...

In 2021 (6 years after starting our rebuild) we were 13th with only 8 wins... to this day, not a single top 4 ladder pos since the rebuild began... only 1 prelim to show for it.

But they took 11 years to win a flag, progress is never linear

Ridiculous to expect 2 clubs to follow the same path...

But like I've said, we're far enough into our rebuild to expect top 4 finishes from this group.

Next year will be massive...

Clubs will only produce what they are capable of achieving

Lions have just won a flag from outside the top 4

But they took 11 years to win a flag, progress is never linear

That's not the point though... they've put themselves in a strong position every year for the last 6 seasons...

We've done it once... our list is aging...

Newman, Saad, Cripps, Williams, Gov, Doc, Hewett, Acres ... all turn 30+ next year

Charlie, Harry, Weiters, Boyd, Pittonet, Kennedy, Young, Owies, Silvagni ... all late 20's...

Majority of those names are starting 22... we've realistically got 2-3 more seasons max out of this group.

Without a single top 4 finish yet, we need to find some improvement through a younger crop.

So 10 years of rebuilding, we're not capable of finishing top 4 once?

Sounds like failures...

Like I said next year will be massive... we wouldn't want to bank on our chances of winning a flag outside top 4 next year... very rarely happens...

They have, but hasn't resulted in winning a flag until today, 11 years into a rebuild

We've done it once... our list is aging...
Compared to recent flag winners, we aren't as old

It's why you continue to rejuvenate your list

Without a single top 4 finish yet, we need to find some improvement through a younger crop.
We need to find consistency across tge group

So 10 years of rebuilding, we're not capable of finishing top 4 once?
It's not that unusual

Sounds like failures...
If that's how you see it

Like I said next year will be massive... we wouldn't want to bank on our chances of winning a flag outside top 4 next year... very rarely happens...
Looking forward to the season

Again, beside the point... you need to put yourself in a position to win it first... they've done so consistently over the last 6 seasons... we've done it once...

Turning this into some point about linearity is ridiculous...

We have most certainly underachieved, denying so is your choice... but not realistic...

Compared to recent flag winners, we aren't as old

It's why you continue to rejuvenate your list

We're getting there... the recent flag winners have had extensive top 4 finishes and finals results...

Agree we need to rejuvenate... that's why we don't waste R1 picks on hbf like Houston...

It's not that unusual

Who cares? It isn't what we have been aiming for regardless of which way you look at it..

If that's how you see it

That's how the club should be seeing it... they stated that finals was the goal in 2022... fail. They stated top 4 this year... fail.

Like I said, another 2-3 years and most of our starting 22 will be too old to contend...

Looking forward to the season

Same.
