In 3 yrs time our super stars may not shine so much, once Weitering , Cripps and Curnow , Harry , Saad and Williams, Docherty and others begin to slow down the invincibility factor is gone.
We obviously may not need a total rebuild, but the our quest for a 17th premiership Cup is over.

Our class of 2015 is 26 or 27 years old. 3 years is way too soon to be thinking of them slowing down. Saad, Williams, Docherty are older but completely cover-able in the long term by draftees and the improvement of players like Cowan and OHollands. Cripps is a different story but he is only one player. There is no reason to think that players drafted this year or next won't be good enough to contribute to a premiership, and make us better even as some of our older players begin to fade.

We were 10 minutes of good football away from a GF last year.

So what?
We were 60 points down half way through the 2nd qtr in an Elim Final this year.

After three years the form ladder doesn’t lie. We’re a 6th-10th quality team.

Draft picks are great but they’re not taking you to Top 4 in the short term.

If the list managers and development coaches do their job, we move from a model top heavy with stars, to a model with depth and quality all over the park and maintain the rage for another decade.

The [posters] who keep wanting to go all in for the now have no vision and no faith in the kids and the system.

To those who follow the under 18s closely are there players in the top 20 that can realistically play straight away in 2025 that fill positions of need (i.e., small forward, outside midfielder with pace/skills and key defender)? Or are these more likely players that will need a year or two to break in.

IMO the direction to take here (ie. couple of mid/late 1st round in draft Vs bonafide ready made strong players like Houston) also rests upon whether LM have in mind someone at the pick, say pick 11, who they see as ready to play and impact senior footy right away in ‘25. (Excluding Harley as a one off, Demons, Dogs, others? got players who went straight in this year didn’t they?)

So, it depends who LM have in mind at the picks, and how strongly they rate them, for both ‘fit to team needs’, and also, ‘readiness for immediate impact’ in a contending team

Understand where you’re coming from but how long have we talked about the ‘future’??

The future, the future, the future...

Isn’t it about time we talk about the ‘present’?

For context, Richmond didn’t have a top 10 pick the five years preceding their three-peat because they brought in established talent…

Hawthorn didn’t have a top 10 pick in either of the five years preceding their three-peat because they brought in established talent…

Cripps is almost 30.
Saad has just turned 30.
Gov is 30 next week. Acres 29.
Charlie starts next season 28.
Harry 27. Weitering the same.

It’s NOW or never for this particular group IMO.

The time for 🏆#17 is the present. Not five years into the future.

If our first round pick this year and next can net us a couple of established stars I’m ALL for it.

Gotta be brave.

Chips in.

Gotta be realistic with what's available.

We're not Hawks pre dynasty, nor are we Richmond pre dynasty...

Players that we'd need to add to our midfield just aren't on the market this year. Arguably Peatling is one, but by all reports, we haven't thrown our hat in the ring for him.

Bailey Smith is another, but he's headed to Geelong.

At the time there was talk about Petracca wanting to come to us, I was all for bringing him in.

As for KPD's... unless Sam De Koning becomes available... or Leek changes his mind... there aren't any that we can realistically target this year...

But you don't bandy around top picks for a late 20's hbf like Houston...

This particular group has another 2-3 years left in them of top level football imo.

We don’t need a player picked at 11 to play straight away but there’s a chance they could.

We have enough youth on our list that will improve with another preseason along with hoping to get our injuries in check.

Expect Lord, Moir, Wilson, Cowan, Motlop, Durdin, Kemp, Binns to improve and if you add 4 from the draft and a couple of good players through trades, we vastly improve.

Cook runs the show and do we actually think he would say “let’s go all in and if we blow it we can just rebuild” like some people think the club should? 0% chance he thinks this way

We’ve finished the last three seasons 9th, 5th & 8th.

Let’s not be naive. We have half a dozen players who are elite. After that it drops away pretty rapidly.

Hawthorn & Brisbane may not have the starpower of our top 6 but the quality in their depth is far superior to ours.

We ain’t just lacking a little around the edges.
So Brisbane finished 5th this year by your metrics?

Silly season indeed. Warner going back home to WA if he goes. Jon Ralph saying he will stick fat in holding off contract talks and would have even requested a trade now if they won the flag. His partner wants to go back too. No chance. More chance of David Warner.

Anyway back to watching the fighting over draft v going all out

Normally I'd back the draft but this 'clown' has watched us squander picks (a lot of high picks from the spoon years) for the last 29 years. Roll the dice for once I say.

I am told that we are sounding out Warner and feel he is gettable. His preference is WA but we think we can change his mind. Swans very keen on McKay as their future marquee forward.

There is so much wrong with this, that I just can't let it go into the Bluemour No Discussion thread as it stands.

McKay said he isn't going anywhere. His manager said he isn't going anywhere. The club said he isn't going anywhere. Warner is in contract and Sydney won't let him go unless they can get a vital piece in return.

Who is the source on it? It sounds like a facebook page rumour.
