You don't have to mention... you liked a post making reference to Zorko possibly winning their b&f this year after I said we shouldn't be handing out 1st round picks for a hbf like Houston...

Didn't feel like calling out that cherry pick?

I like plenty of posts if the reasoning is sound, whether I agree or not

I have no issue if the club decided to hand out 1, 1st late ish pick for Houston, but nothing more unless it was steak knives, otherwise I would walk away

I'm only trying to solve the KPD conundrum.
But, I get it, and yes there's a lot more to address. However, I doubt 2 x 1st rounders is going to solve those concerns either.

That's fair enough, I've been wanting us to address that area as well. Just not keen on giving up that sort of trade capital.

2 first rounders won't solve our one paced midfield and lack of small forward options either. But they will go towards it a lot more than SDK will.

No chance we can sort all our problems in one off season unfortunately...

acting like houston is about to absolutely fall off a cliff in 2 years time while our spine (minus tdk and walsh) are the same age or older is funny. do we wanna potentially win a flag with cripps in the team by adding established players or wait for draftees that might come good in 2-3 years time when cripps is 33-34?

im all for keeping this years 1st and selecting a berry type, but if theres a deal that can be made with a F1 for houston or a deal for SDK that involves this years first im doing it.

Oh oh - some bans will be issued now. Commenting in a no comments thread - noobs :p

Not sure what part of NO DISCUSSION some don’t understand.
It’s in CAPS in thread title.

Lost count on the amount of deleted posts in the past 2 days.

Bluemour File rumours only - NO DISCUSSION

In the PF, Cats got their rear ends handed to them in the midfield Smith and the Melb heartthrob will put them back into serious contention. SDK may be the solution to their problem. If so we need to go hard and not blink.

If Austin I would consider making a big time offer on both of them just to up their value and force the cats to offload some surplus talent.

Answer me this, if SDK is the answer to us "getting it done", why is it that we were 60-0 against the Lions despite Young doing a solid job?

It's a good point and indicates most of the onus is on our terrible gameplan killing the defence. Personally, I think it is then much more complicated than that one point. We still need a second defender who in the right weight division and defensive mindset for the 'role' of second key defender. Young/Kemp fall short of the 'role' for differing reasons.

Looking back over the last few years, the best balance of tall defenders is made up of 'Quality Key Defender', 'potato cheap big body defender' and then '3rd tall intercept defender'.

Moore, Murphy, Howe
May, Petty, Lever

SDK might help but as you rightly pointed out, Vossy and the MC have to lift their transition game multiple levels. Also, SDK bypasses the potato defender for another quality defender which just might be again the wrong mix and salary cost. Carlton are forever caught up in 'awesome player' rather than filling a 'specific' role.

We have Weitering...then missing the potato defender (Collins, Payne). We are then missing the intercept defender as McGovern actually doesnt do his role. Haynes however might do it.

Having said all that, i think SDK is a pipedream and there is more chance of JSoS ending up in the potato role.

I didn't say Houston would fall off a cliff in 2 years... I said players usually fall off a cliff when in their mid 30's...

So unless Houston is currently 32 years old, you're twisting the facts...

I would offer no more than 11 for SDK... I was talking to a poster who would be happy to trade 2x 1st rounders for him... a move, imo which would be totally irresponsible list management...

As for trading for Houston, at no stage were Port ever going to accept just our F1 for him... or us trading our F1 to another club for another 1st this year... people believing that is the stuff of unicorns...

We would at the very least have to cough up our F1 and an early 2nd rounder... and the gymnastics we'd have to perform to get that additional pick was not worth it.

I don't KNOW if SDK wants out, but his family wasn't as happy with his treatment at Geelong as they have been with Tom's at Carlton. This is going back a year or so ago. He has played a lot on painkillers for a knee issue, I think. The family didn't like it. They were very supportive of TDK staying at Carlton. Terry is a mad Carlton fan, despite being an ex Bulldog.

SDK's form has been moderate for a while. Geelong will play hard to get, but it is conceivable he might be gettable. I'm not sure they are as excited by his potential as they once were...

The bolded is exactly what I mean

How do you know this?

Anyway, it's a moot point. History.

Hypothetically, lets say we spent this years pick as a 'future first', it would have been likely anyone from P11 - 15 in the 2023 draft. Not sure any of those names would have made a difference either, and as you said, we'd still lose.

No Point speculating.

You're right that not one player would have made the difference for us this year.

If we were talking about Butters or Trac, then 2 first rounders would be more sensible.
