If Oliver is demanding out of Melbourne..

Hope we’re in the thick of this, players of this calibre don’t come up very often and suits our needs much more than Houston…

We now have a culture as good as Geelong and I’d back us to get Oliver back to his best..

I’d give pick 12 or 14. If Oliver was to take the (media discussed) pay cut and Melbourne are going to pay some of his wage.

Oliver Currently - $1.2m
Pay cut -$200k
Melbourne - $400k

That would mean he would be on our cap for $600k a year… We’d still have flexibility in the future and can still hit the draft this year.

Our current picks are:
12, 14, 69, 72, 73
69, 72, 73 = 77 points
Guess on Ben C is between pick 30 (approx 600 points) and pick 50 (200 points).
Still more in play for us, my guess...
Ralph:
The Blues believe their three back-end picks 69, 72 and 73 will move higher up the draft order once clubs bid on father-son and academy picks, and could be enough to secure both Camporeale brothers.

You would hope that there is a handshake agreement on picks with Brisbane to get Cody to Carlton in 26 (though it will be much tougher. Pretty much given away a Second rounder to get into this years draft. Not giving much room to improve our list next year.

Given we need a tall defender and there were a few around at our 2nd pick this year, You would have to think we pick Trainor with one of our firsts.

As much as I love the idea of the Campos, they are not really what we need.

Why do we need another inside mid - makes us slower

Why would the Dees pay a portion of the salary of a contracted player they want to keep?

Blake Acres is a good example here, I’ve read where Blake talks about how upset he was with Fremantle offer and he hadn’t thought of leaving until it was obvious that they didn’t rate him.

We gave a 3rd round pick

Fremantle gave an offensive offer that made the player feel undervalued but they still made an offer and we still had to do a trade, a great pick up by us, a mistake by them imo, but they were still able to get a useful pick for a player they clearly didn’t rate.

Jack Darling just went for a pick, Luke Parker will go for a pick, Hawks trade a 2nd round pick for Choo who was mostly playing reserves as well.

Freo still gave Acres a contract offer which we haven't been in a position to for Owies. If teams came for some of our contracted players, then we would be able to.
The other players you mentioned are/were all contracted.

not the type we need, is an upgrade on Kennedy (on talent, not off field) but just more of the same

Dodo has left the building, Rosa is in charge now.
I think that one of pick 12 or 14 plus our pick 34 might be enough to pry pick 9 out of *. Dodo would have been wanting picks 12 and 14 plus both of the Campo boys.

Yes, agreed.

Pretty simple really - you say Houston is a better option than Pick 14. The same holds true for Port - they're not gonna give him up for 14, probably won't give him up for 12 for that matter.

It's not a matter of Houston vs 14 as a value proposition for us. It's Houston vs whatever Port will accept.

No idea at this stage how genuine the Houston to Collingwood stuff is. Could just be those two clubs playing the media to try and force us to up our bid. We haven't and probably won't.

I reckon taking 12 and 14 to the draft is the most likely outcome now - we don't have the list spots to be taking 3 first rounders unless we start cutting some contracted players. Maybe we swap one of them for a pick in the 18-23 range plus a similar pick next year. if we want to recover some draft capital for next year.

The interesting one for me is whether we maybe look to push up the table now. Is 12 and 14 for 5 and 28 something that Melbourne would consider? Would we?

Picture changes a bit when we shed our midfield depth in 2024 and plan around trades/FAs with Gresham and Ison as NGA picks in 2025

So what do you think we're going to combine with 14 that will satisfy Port?

Afterall, they're losing a start up top 10 player at their club, 2x AA.. contracted for 3 years...

They need to be well compensated to let him go.
As I've already said, now pick 14 is in the bag, reckon deals for one or more of Owies, MK and/or Carroll will now evolve....

There's some more capital....
