I'm just enjoying the Houston saga is still ongoing, and glad we are still a possible landing place

This is it for me too. Even if we're not in on it surely being in the frame helps Port extract the most out of Collingwood possible.

Picks will come in by a fair bit on draft night so I think we will have it covered
Think people will be surprised by where the bids on the Campo boys actually come.

The Surname has got the media’s attention, but on most draft boards Ben is a 3rd rounder and Lucas is late or even potentially rookie draft.

Agree. I doubt Ben comes in before 40 so we should be perfectly fine and the minimum chips we have should be easily enough imo

Spot on.

Further to this:

I ask people to look at recent drafts.

The later father/sons sit in the draft pool the more reticent clubs have been to put in a bid for them. For example, Calsher Dear was probably worth a third round nomination last year but teams were happy to look elsewhere and let him drop to the Hawks.

There's quite a few examples. Some kids have been drsftable and gotten out even further.

If our plan is an injection of young talent including 2x top 15 picks, 2x Campos and some rookies then i am very much in favour.

Lets face it - we, as a club, have never in the modern era shown the capacity to consistently develop our own talent. Until we can properly find, develop and create our own players we are going nowhere.

We have papered over this by twice bottoming out for a lengthy time and 'rebuilding' around can't miss #1 picks and a generational midfielder (Judd/Cripps). But in both cases our deficiencies in development have left us thin surrounding our elite talent. Our instinct has always been to trade to fill thosr gaps and the net outcome has been that we haven't won more than 14 games or finished in the top 4 since Bill Clinton was harassing interns

We aren't genuine contenders now, and won't be until we properly address this. Getting in a good crop of 4-5 decent prospects who can grow into support roles alongside our Curnow/Walsh/Weitering/TDK/McKay/Cerra core (who have 5 years together) is a great way to signal this imo. We are good enough to play finals (or at least on big games that matter) so it is the perfect development opportunity - let them play roles on the big stage.

I genuinely hope this is the plan - we should be aiming to set ourselves to be solid for a decade, not swinging for the fences in some desperate move IMO.

Pies are going to have to start being reasonable on this noble deal or they will miss 13.

Almost like they thought it was a given they'd get it for unders just because they had a fringe player who wants gc.
Noble doesn’t live up to his name.

He’s bog ordinary.

Collingwood hacks posting - oh well, we’ll just hold Noble to his contract.

Shudder!

They desperately need 23 in the deal from the Suns and even then, pick 13, 23 and Richards may not be enough to appease Port. 13 and Richards is a strict no. After that though, the Pies don’t really have anything of value

I think that's the issue. Pies don't really have the currency for Houston. Their whole approach is predicated on them being able to rip goldcoast off. If they deal in good faith they will come up short.

Goldcoast should offload pick 13 to Melbourne. Pies will stamp their feet for a minute then deal reasonably on noble knowing Houston is off the table.

We have 77 points (after 14). Enough to match a bid at 65 only. He may go lower than expected, but not that low. I still expect we'll be doing more - either using one of our high picks to trade down to say ~18 and a couple of 3rd round picks, or try to get a couple of picks around that mark for Kennedy/Owies/Carroll.

Or maybe we’re in this predicament because Austin and Co, have failed to manage the list and cap better…

Overseeing huge contracts (that have stymied our list flexibility) for McKay, Curnow and Cripps. With Walsh, Weitering & TDK still to come..

Bring in big money underperforming players such as Cerra & Williams… While also keeping and continuing to keep injury prone players on the list…

I don’t buy all our injuries we due to Andrew Russell (an highly regarded figure in the industry). Russell would have been part of the melting pot, but so is having a list, littered with injury prone players because they are cheap…

IMO the football department as a whole isn’t up to premiership standard.. Hopefully Wright with his exceptional experience in this area can stamp his authority…

Lloyd > Bartell
Voss
Assistants > reduce number and get better quality, higher regarded assistants and coaching group. Our staff numbers here are huge.
Austin > ?
Assistants > Refresh

Something’s got to change. We have a best 23 with 6x All Australians, 2x Leading Goal Kickers, Brownlow Medalist, League MVP, Best Player of Finals.

All brilliant individual achievements, but as a group that have grown up together and played a lot of football together best H & A finish is 5.. Yes made a prelim, due to Blake Acres brilliance…
Pretty sure Cook with his great depth of experience would have made these assessments by now.
Very difficult to make some of your judgements we are just not close enough.
Austin is doing a solid job despite some negative posters.
