If Haynes can get his diet right consistently off field, then I see no reason why he can’t improve on his form over the last few years (where he has been in an in-between state due to diet) and become a solid 22 player for us.

We need his leadership and experience down back.

this contract gets more embarrassing by the minute...

an okay half back turned failed midfielder turned failed half back turned potential small fwd earning that sort of money.
It's nuts. And let's be honest Zakky is another perenially injured player who needs a hard decision made on him.
He is unreliable, and I say that after loving him find joy up forward and showing some good talent there.
If we keep him we need great back up as well.
I'd prefer to cut our losses whilst we can get a good trade.

jfc what an awful deal
It's likely just "his year" to get paid the big bucks. I suspect all of our deals are parabolic, with the majority of money coming in a one or two year window, to allow other players to have the majority of their money in the years before or after.

Williams' deadl was 800k, it's likely at some point it ranges anywhere between $500-$1.1m depending on the year and depending on who else we're paying that year, but overall it averages out at $800.

We always knew this and $800 is not that much in the modern AFL where the average best 22 player would be getting close to $500.

I mean yes, it hasn't been what we wanted. But we thought he'd be a dynamic addition to our midfield. It hasn't turned out that way... but you win some you lose some.

Nobody is going to take on his contract unless we throw in a good draft pick too.

Dunno, but I remember it similarly to the other poster, there was certainly talk of it.
Having had a pretty keen intetest in at the time there wasn't. The deal just materialised on the day, it wasn't one that had commentary about it prior to it happening. The Hawks needed another pick to facilitate a trade. SOS wanted some extra picks then and there.

It was hardly a blockbuster trade at the time (future late 2nd for a 3rd rounder and 2 X 4ths). There were some posters at the time who thought that we had been short changed. Maybe someone said we should have asked for Sicily after the deal was done?

You would think that his deal would have been loaded up front (like we did with Martin) when we had a team that wasn't making finals, not back ended to when our young talent would be peaking. It is OK (to an extent) to overpay when you have space but in years 5-6 when you are supposed to be contending is madness.

If Willaims kicks 35 goals next yr as a small forward I won't care if he's on $1m tbph.

It's more than any other small forward but we've planned around it. Every club has a contract or 2 they probably wish they didn't have on the books but work around it, Zac is that for us. With Owies & Martin off the books the average salary for our small forwards would be probably not far above league average. Durdin & Mots wouldn't be on much at all and potentially Rosas and/or a draftee will also not be on a whole lot.

If we get consistently threatening output on field then that's all that matters.

Lots of differing information, much of which contradicts other rumours

I guess that could be people having different contacts within the club, some of which would be direct contacts, others 2nd, 3rd contacts

Some could also have a poster's own slant
I think the rumours are not contradictary but seem to align that Cook is repairing problems with list management, fitness and coaching. It is so refreshing to see the club acknowledging these deep seated issues. Watch it pay dividends

Doesn’t sound like a club all singing from the same book no matter what spin Sayers puts on it.

But really, do we need an itk to tell us we have serious problems with fitness/injury, the list and the game plan?

You can see it from space!

The said person is very credible and is sharing information.

Do you want Bluemours or not or do we just shut down this thread and be done with it!
