Anyone got a nice xmas bluemour for us?
It’s a Christmas Miracle…TDK about to sign a 7 year, $8m deal.
Now that is a great pressie on xmas day!TDK about to sign a 7 year, $8m deal.
Some ridiculous offers you’d assume being offered to him, whilst some offers would be definitely legitimate, overall all offers would be driving the market price up to benefit everyone…Nice
That's unders and not surprising it will be done before too long

Wow, crazy money…I know one club was offering 1.5 mil, not sure of the length
You said yourself we don't know. Which therefore means you can't conclude what you have. You can't see what clubs dedicate to their stars or their salary spread across lists. It just is what it is. Who cares. As player salaries aren’t public and no one here knows how existing contracts are tied to the new TPP increases, $8M over 7 years is way overs for a player who to date hasn’t achieved anything.
Assuming that Cripps, Weits, Walsh, Harry, Charlie and to a degree Williams will all be in similar, that’s a hell of a lot of $$$$ tied to a small group of players.
Not to mention guaranteed dollars vs potential dollars via kpis, awards, or other metricsYou said yourself we don't know. Which therefore means you can't conclude what you have. You can't see what clubs dedicate to their stars or their salary spread across lists. It just is what it is. Who cares.
Cripps will only have 2 years left when TDKs contract starts. Williams 1 so you can pretty much discount those. TDKs contract will run for 2 years after McKay's finishes and 3 years after Curnow. That gives some flexibility with moving money around. As player salaries aren’t public and no one here knows how existing contracts are tied to the new TPP increases, $8M over 7 years is way overs for a player who to date hasn’t achieved anything.

Agree TDK is the riskiest of the big-name players we have re-signed. He has achieved the least. That said, we need to at least be in the ballpark of other offers. If the contract spoken about is correct, we are getting him at a decent discount.
8M over 7 isn't as much as it sounds with the cap going up. Under the old cap it'd be roughly 900k p.a, which is in line with what our other big-name players re-signed for (reportedly). Sticks to our pay structure.
I strongly suspect most our contracts are indexed to TPP. I think most clubs are. Essendon an exception, hence the way they've been throwing money around. We would have money to burn if our contracts weren't indexed and there is no evidence of that.
Our cap is definitely top heavy, and it will cost us players at some point (as early as this year) but probably not at the top end. Could see it compromising our depth, hence going hard at the draft the last few years being important. Doubt we will have money to go after a big-name free agent for a long time. Not imperative though. You can only have so many stars and ours are already on our list.
There's also a flow on effect to a TDK stalemate. Not knowing whether he will re-sign or for how much, impacts negotiations with players lower down the pecking order. If we get him done early, we will know exactly how much we have to play with and can start re-signing other players. Have a lot of guys out of contract this year.Well summarised.
I think there's another element that the previous poster hasn't recognised. Yes it is indeed a risk to sign TDK to this contract. But it's also a risk not to sign him to it. There's a very large possibility that if we don't and he continues to perform at a high level, he will receive massive offers to leave. He would also be more likely to consider those offers given we haven't committed to him. Risk goes both ways in these scenarios.
Midnight New Year’s EveWe have yet to confirm the rumour as fact. Any idea when the club may announce the re-signing of TDK?

I think our last final showed why he is very important to us. He literally got us back in the game when no-one else made any difference for a qtr and a half. Also, factoring in his popularity and membership draw, he is worth the dollars I reckon. As player salaries aren’t public and no one here knows how existing contracts are tied to the new TPP increases, $8M over 7 years is way overs for a player who to date hasn’t achieved anything.

The TDK bug!Midnight New Year’s Eve
My angle is more that we seem to have 6-7 players on really large $$$ contracts and we have very little to show for it, in terms of on field success. I see this as being the reason we have been quiet on the player acquisition front the last two years.Well summarised.

I look at Brisbane, Collingwood and Geelong, the past 3 premiership winners and I don’t see them handing out deals like we have.
Other than Williams, our other players all deserved the deals they got and perform accordingly, they all had runs on the board, Tom compared to them seems like a much riskier play.
Now if our existing contracts weren’t tied to the TPP increases like it’s reported Essendons aren’t, then I’d feel a lot more comfortable.
I’ll be happy if Tom re signs, just a little nervous about the $$$, that’s all
Im hoping that Pitto is on a relatively small deal so we can treat them as a package deal..Personally didnt think Martin or McGovern have performanced to their contract price. Not much of a point to be made except hype and market forces make us pay TDK the 8m.
I don't like the amount mch either but with Pitto the other option, I wouldnt want to see TDK leave either. So pay must and lump it!
Pretty sure Bailey Smith & Cameron and Dangerfield have come to the Cats on large deals not sure that logic applies, Williams is at the end of his long term deal, we let some players go this year & drafted kids so our cap is less of a issue than is being put forward. My angle is more that we seem to have 6-7 players on really large $$$ contracts and we have very little to show for it, in terms of on field success.
