Our last major play of the trade period will be an attempt to get up the first round order.
Our goal is to get Sheezel.
A lot depends on what North does with pick 1, gws very keen to get 1 and get Cadman, North very keen on Wardlaw. But if the have two picks before us they will take Sheezel with the second.

Spoke with someone at the club the day after the trade period but not much to add that has not already been said. Still actively looking to trade up but we know we'll get someone we want at 10 regardless of what happens in the first 9 picks. Swans had interest in Dow but Dow did not want to move. Club needs and wants to hit the draft hard the next few years. Bullish on next year.

Now that the Hollands news is public I'll be open and claim that I pm'd a couple of posters here yesterday (our key draft watchers) that a little birdie that lives closer to me (I'm in Brisbane) that Hollands apparently nailed his interview with Carlton and that he left with the impression that we were as keen for him as he was for us (didn't know the connection until it was published, just know Elijah and that his Dad played for Richmond).

Until it was public news I didn't want to post here in case it was sensitive information on our end. Now that's out the window I'll share that info

A Geelong ITK from elsewhere has suggested that if a Vic club drafts Busslinger that he guarantees Joel Selwood will follow as an assistant coach and suggested that it'd most likely be us.

On TDK ...

Last I heard all parties were on the same page.
Wants to stay at the club, the club wants to keep him.
Both club and players management keen on a 2 year deal. With a view to signing a longer term deal with us next time round.

Everyone seems pretty comfortable with what’s been discussed. Nobody appears to be to worries at all really. It makes sense that it won’t get done until after the bye.
Given it’s a shorter deal, it’s easier to work out fair remuneration, as one’s not trying to predict to far into the future.
This gives Tom 10-12 games to put together a decent form line.

Further to Forty3's TDK rumour, I know someone very close to the situation. Will share with the mods if asked. TDK wanted to sign last year but his manager talked him out of it. TDK loves Carlton and has no intention of leaving. The contract will be done it is just a question of when. Also, his father played for Footscray but grew up barracking for us. He loves the club as well. The information in the papers is just noise.

Rumor time. Paraphrasing what I was told.

If Hardwick comes across to Carlton it will not be to replace Voss.

Despite the disappointing start to the season the club itself is still locked in on Voss. What Sayers published on Monday is how he and others at the club actually feel. It wasn't just smoke.

Dimma is completely burnt out. It took some encouragement from those at Richmond for him not to walk away at the end of last year. He was excited by their recruiting and that helped persuade him to stay. The decision that he made was not sudden despite Morris breaking it early.

If we get Hardwick to the club it will be in the form of "director of coaching." There is interest in Hardwick assessing how our club currently operates and improving standards to support Voss. A big part of this will be in identifying prospects to join the club as assistant coaches.

If Dimma eventually finds the want to coach again and the opportunity presents itself at the right club he'd be able to pursue it. My contact says it is highly unlikely that he will coach in 2024.

My contact compared it to what Roos did for Melbourne without him coaching them while Goodwin served his apprenticeship.

Cook has expressed to the club that he would like to increase his stay from the original 3 years to 5 at a minimum.
He came to the club after the ‘external review’ took place, which in its findings decided that Lloyd and Liddle were doing a fantastic job, and it was only Teague that was at fault.. (absurd) and only 6 days before Voss was announced as coach. Once the decision making processes were all but done.
It will take time, unfortunately, for Cook to ultimately be able to make the changes and adjustments he wants. To call a for another review within the timeframe he’s been there so far, so soon upon the back of the last would of been impossible.

OG Source: former Carlton player (has played with many/most) of the list. Doesn't strike me as the type to spread or stir bullshit.

  • Cracks in the list began during or shortly after the bye rounds last year
  • There are two divisions in the list and those caught on the outside have almost been forced to pick a side or be on the outer with both sides which is often a lot worse.
  • Feels the club put it down to a long injury list and the related stress and that things would improve after some time off
  • Relations further broke down over the summer. It started with a bit of a "blame game" over what happened at the end of the season and has deteriorated from there
  • One side is completely behind Voss and the coaching. Believes instructions and demands are easy to understand and have good relationships with the coaches. A bit of luck with health and self improvement and we were a lock for finals
  • Other faction think Voss "is full of it" and "cannot coach." "Voss isn't the first coach that they've done this to." He feels this has spiralled out onto not following instruction on the field
  • Player believes that the best solution is a cleanout of those who have been responsible for "coach killing" in the past
  • He hopes that they stick with the current coaching staff "and get Vossy some help" as he feels that we genuinely have a staff who have the best interests of the club at heart, above money, and in his experience that's hard to find.
  • Unrelated but he hopes Adam Cerra will be the next captain of the club as he believes he's a "uniting influence" and has the trust of the coaches without needing to be anyone but himself.

I rarely get mail and I’m sure it’s circulated pretty far and wide, but TDK has checked out. Wants Geelong desperately but so do the Swans and they have far more money on the table. I’ve only heard this from one person who intermittently comes up with some gold. Geelong have been told to find a top 10 pick or no deal. They are not keen on that.

Which brings us to the next part.

Heard from a few other people close to Sydney (coterie types, not prawn sanga theatre goer coterie types but actual footy followers who dump money into their club) that Papley wants home again and is happy again to request to come to Carlton as a preference. Given his long contract, we’d have to throw in a bit of change in a swap involving TDK.

Club is happy to do that but is in a bind given our dearth of picks this year and don’t want to play out again with next years draft.

TDK quite resistant on the issue but has 750k on offer at Sydney (Why? Don’t ask me) which makes attempting to walk to Geelong through the PSD very difficult for him given their offer is about the same as ours, 500-550, which would be the ‘price on his head’ and given the Swans likely pick before Geelong and and North, Hawks, Eagles probably swoop first anyway.

Unless they come up with a very enticing offer through trading up pick wise with us.

So presuming ANY of this is true, we need to find change with TDK to send him up north for Papley, which would involve players out obviously, Geelong really have to want him that badly they have or acquire a top ten pick in which case we deal with them (Papley is still the priority), or like with Papley to us a few years ago nothing happens and he stays.

Don’t shoot the messenger but I’ve heard from a mate who passes on decent mail on other clubs usually that we are seriously looking at rookie listing Archi Manton.

Apparently the penny has really dropped for him, he’s taking his footy seriously at Port, worked hard, bulked up and is taking a lot of marks and kicking goals. Can’t find his listed height but he was 193 in his draft year and I’d say he’s grown to 197/198.

The person I spoke to did say other clubs are looking at him so it’s a possibility we might need to take him late in the national draft as an F/S if we really are keen, he didn’t say I’d we’d be willing to commit to that. Apparently the recruiting staff see him as someone who can play both ends.

I'm not an ITK. Just speak to quite a few who I have some level of faith in.
.
Have heard: Cuners 2 years. (may be a 1+1) and TDK discussing a 3-year deal. There's apparently more but unknown announcing timeframe. Could be like we've done in the past and announce them all at once and the report suggests they've been done "for some time"

Sorry. Intended to post more hours ago then got told to pack up by missus as little one has to see a medical professional (he's fine).

Sorry.

I'm pretty sure Fisher has said he wants to go back to WA and it's just an issue of working out a deal with West Coast. Don't think he's going to get traded to another Victorian side.

No to Gresham. Heard he's only got 1 strike left.

Sorry peeps, I've been struggling with my MH since the weekend.

The person who shared the TDK news last week responded to the Jon Ralph stuff and still believes that club and agent are haggling over a two or three year contract. Says the 3 years fits better into our salary structure and would ensure TDK remains a one club player while also giving him the option of exploring free agency a year later

Agent is pushing for a two year deal. Agent will win out as they often do and we'll map out his free agency contract similarly anyway.

TDK as he said last week is adamant on remaining at Carlton and has passed over $850k per season (including incentives) to move to Sydney. He says the Geelong offer is about what Carlton has been offering him. Although he wouldn't have minded playing with Sam it wasn't the primary motivator.
