Fair call, but it's a threat for almost any assistant at almost any club in almost any season, surely. I'm not lauding it, but it's the nature of the game more than it is for senior coach

How about this scenario..
Last week Pyke told that he is the preferred coach IF Clarko refuses position, Eddie is informed of this, retires; Levi and Murphy both told that Pyke is the next coach under that scenario, no new contracts effectively isolate any old mates from Eddie's previous time at the club. Eddie to be employed at Fox, not at Carlton. Cerra advised yesterday Clarko unlikely to be coach, and that Pyke is to be the man, not Ross, he immediately says chow to Freo and requests a trade to Carlton. No Ross, Carlton Still Respects; replacement coach has a win loss record without peer in the league, got his team to the GF in his second year, has unfinished business without the baggage of a Lyon....

It just can't happen, can it? If we can somehow bring in senior assistants + experienced head of football, then maybe?

Teague and his Manager have not done themselves any favors in the last few days. No quality assistants will want to come in in case they get thrown under the bus and have to leave again when a new coach gets appointed in 12 months. Players may very well ask for Transfer if he remains.

From a club PR point of view, we have no choice but to stick with Teague for at least one more year in my opinion.

Apparently Ross Lyon is not an option anymore due to that sexual harassment case at Freo (according to a couple of journos)

It's not an ideal situation, but we can salvage something from this shipwreck by surrounding Teague with decent, qualified assistants/support staff.

Replacing Teague now would not be worth the widespread media and public backlash, it would only serve as a sign of a dysfunctional footy club imo.

Anyone is better than Teague at present.

He's burnt his bridges and it's obvious he doesn't inspire the players at all and his game plan and game management are utter rubbish.

Keeping Teague would make the football department even more dysfunctional.

Club needs to sack Teague now, then open it up to a proper process.
If that means Clarko mysteriously changes his mind in the next few days, then so be it.
They should have done this from the outset. If they were waiting for Clarko to make up his mind, they should have said "Sure, no worries. The longer you take, the more people we get to introduce into the discussion"

Surely the only reason they kept Teague after Monday was because they thought they could keep him for another year. Things have gone downhill since then.

I was always a bit worried that some posters and supporters placed too many eggs in the Clarkson basket.

I am going back to my original thoughts about Clarko and that I think he has been convinced by Gil and the AFL to take over the Gold Coast Suns at the end of 2022 when Dew's contract expires.

We have seen such manipulation from the AFL in the past, esp with regards to the Suns and Giants.

I have been critical of the board, but I don't think they really should be blamed for missing our on Clarkson really.

Yep - and add to his near $1m salary some $$ for a "community development" role which might see him visit a couple of area schools every few weeks

Why would he take it next year if he doesn't want it this year. Don't we want a coach who wants to coach us. If Ckarko don't want to come this year then Carlton would be stupid if they are waiting until next year to make big decisions. Waste of a year when he says no to us again next year.

But Teague has certainly shown this week that he's not scared of questioning Cripps and other leaders of the club.

My guess is that the only reason Teague has shown any balls this week is because he thought he was gone. Much easier to throw that stuff around when you don't think you'll be there any longer. A bit like when a Prime Minister is rolled in a general election and we hear "that was the best speech they've ever done".

The opinion of David king and most journos (all journos) is worth a mere fart in the wind and should carry 0% consideration when the club is making these decisions.
