Just a hint for the board...

If you are targeting an experienced head coach, you don't run an interview process, you run a tick box process internally, of the type of coach you want (1-3 names), then approach them

You run an interview process for assistants, that could take the next step as a senior coach

Pretty fu**en simple

Maybe som
Self interest is a powerful force.

Approaching Scott is interesting.

It being leaked to the media places self interest above every other obligation.

Maybe all this leaking comes from, someone senior who is under threat (same as with the leaking of the approach to Cookie).... maybe we put those on the committee. A large committee and lengthy process was always a mistake if you want an experienced coach.

Agree with this if we're talking Clarko. Not regarding someone who has been out of the game for years.

They are conversations you have with experienced coaches that have been out of the game a mere 1-2 years, essentially discovery questions, no need to conduct an interview process for these types

Here's the glass-half-full narrative:

We have a disappointing year and do a review of the footy department.
It comes to light that the best coach of the last 20 years (Clarko) may be gettable, so we make an approach. In doing so we tip our hand that we'd chuck our coach away if we could replace him with Clarko. Teague is understandably insulted.
For his own reasons, Clarko says no.
We still decide to move on from our current coach (Teague) and find a new one.
We know of at least one candidate who has been spoken to about the gig (RTB).
We assemble a panel to make the decision.
We (the fans) have NFI who the other candidates may be, but if the club is true to wanting AFL experience you would think some or all of Voss, Pyke, Buckley, BScott would be approached, along with Lyon.
The process is underway.
Ross pulls out.
The process continues.

So sunny version... we tried hail mary Plan A in Clarko and it didn't pan out. We're still in Plan B and one possible option (Ross) is out.

If you look past the rumours, inuendo, loud noises and inside goss.... this is actually more or less what's happened.

However, I fully acknowledge the glass-half-empty narrative is something like the below and feels just as - if not more - real:

I guess it's probably the latter but it COULD be the former.

But why wouldn't we after what happened with Mick Malthouse.

Yep - doesn't seem that difficult, does it? Instead we formed a 6-person extravaganza and expected a 3-time GFinalist to build a ******* powerpoint and sit through psychometric testing.

Depends how loose the definition of 'experienced coach' is.

Can't do much if Buckley, Scott or Pyke aren't interested.

I agree, but he explicitly highlighted “experienced” in his statement.

To not hire an experience coached (and we all know what he meant by this with minimal wriggle room) is basically telling me that we’re settling for what we could get, rather than hiring with a strong conviction.

Nothing is true till it happens.

People read into the tea leaves what they thought things meant, but that didn't make it real.

If nothing else this provides support that the club is actually pursuing a process to select a coach.

Ross may have withdrawn for several reasons, but his withdrawal does say he was probably not the person for the job.

If he thinks he is above scrutiny then he would of not been a success.

Enough messiahs I say. Carlton has had no end of false hope

Discovery questions are still a process, too. As Ross discussed last night, what are the mechanics of 'the process?'. I'm flabbergasted.

Rubbish.

With Liddle and Lloyd on this panel. None of it makes ANY sense if your intention as president is to not have these guys around too long.

Waiting on Chris Scott, Brad to be assistant.
