Mick Warner reporting that Clarko looking to study in US or Europe next year before returning to coaching in 2023. Feel like it is all set up for him to coach GC in 2023

Funnily enough, if Clarko is saying he wants to return to coaching in 2023 it almost makes me feel like we are still a chance. It means he definitely still wants to coach and if, as reported earlier, he rates the Carlton list then he may eventually not want to pass up the opportunity.

Yeah but Sayers explicitly stated we are looking for an experienced AFL coach so not sure many assistants would think they are a genuine chance.

I suspect we may backtrack on the wanting an experienced coach when it becomes obvious the top 6 or so just arent interested.

Maybe we’ll end up with an experienced (assistant) coach like the Pies did.

Only a subtle difference between the two.............

The Club really needs to give-up on Clarko now. It was already starting to lose some of its appeal - the feeling of desperation to get him. It's not a good look for the Club and I don't think it sends a good message to the players. My feeling is we put all our eggs in that basket and it didn't pay off. We need to act like we're still in control...

He's said no. Twice. He's being paid 900k to take a year off and do whatever the hell he likes, after 17 years at Hawthorn. He'd be crazy not to take the opportunity. No doubt his wife is of the same opinion.

Kingsley and spend the money to get the best around him. Clarko isn't enough to turn this club around. We need a team of elite coaches and managers.
Totally agree.

I wanna see what sayers can do. I’m hopeful.

But if it doesn’t work out again not sure what happens next....

I am hearing good things re Kingsley and only just realised he has been coaching (at the assistant level) for 14 years (?) so very similar to McCrae in terms of experience.

I think he would be a better option than the experienced AFL coaches left in the process . I am sure the club can spin it we were after the best experienced coach.

gonna be a worry if he comes on-board only to later say "in hindsight, I probably wasn't in the right place to have agreed to the role" - a la greg chappell.....

Still holding out hope that Pyke can be pried from Sydney but his name doesn't even seem to be part of the conversation.
I thought Pyke was very happy in Sydney and wasnt after a move to Melb .

Well Voss is still out there but pretty depressing we only have the Scott / Voss options available.
As long as we don't go digging too hard, e.g. Grant Thomas - yikes! :straining:

What a mess - we should have just pushed hard on Ross and be done with it.
Sayers can say that he made the call and that's that!
Over and done with - next!
