Sign Clarko now for 2023 and get Paul Roos to coach 2022. Would be great insensitive for developing assistant coaches as they will be able to work with 2 all time great coaches. Roos will have to be on board with how clarko wants to coach us in 23 though.
I know there's more chance of getting Lucifer himself to coach us next season, but this would be a stellar approach if we could convince them both to go for it.

I think you are conflating 'opinions' from journos and ex-AFL players on TV with overreactions on here (and probably the main board) and turning them into 'facts'.

All we know is we are running a process for the coaching process and that Ross Lyon does not wish to partake.
Or it could be all true, as it's clear the club has an issue with leaking and that my fears are justified. I mean there are too many in the media beating the same drum. Are they amplifying it? Sure. However it is a complete beat up? Nah.

It can change quickly, but right now I cannot help feel the way I do.

Welcome our new coach. Louie Cypher

Hold on, you say shambolic like it's a bad thing?

But less seriously, our performances this year were embarrassing. thie is the effort to fix it. Our performances for nigh on 20 years other than 2009-11 are the issue. We're just trying to clear the decks to start again.
I am not against change, don't get me wrong. I am all for completely turning the place upside down. We obviously need to something things differently. I just can't help but feel we don't actually know how to go about doing it.

I am not angry at the club for going through the process. But I am upset if Lyon was led to believe the job was his and if it wasn't guaranteed or there was a change of opinion late in the piece.

Right now, we must forget the "getting the most experienced" coach or putting a quota on them on how many games we must won next year. It should be a process to pick who is best suited to take us to the next flag. Nothing else should matter. If there is a first time coach out there suitable, do it.

If we were to go down the path of an experienced assistant, regardless of who it is, what’s the senior support that everyone is keen to surround them with?

Pyke is taken.
Chocco is taken.
Leppitsch is taken.
Clarko isn’t keen.
Ross is upset.
Robert Harvey?
Brad Scott?
Buckley?
Roos?
Worsfold hmmm no thanks.

Who else is there?
As a senior assistant we could do worse than a “back to the future” Bolton.

Put Kingsley, Yze, Graham, Caracella, and any other prominent name through a process and find the best prospect.
Must admit Yze who has worked beside Bolton at Hawthorn appeals to me. Looks likely to be the difference at Melbourne in 2021.

Imagine we did something that no other club has done before and appointed co-coaches and designed the shared loads around the individual strengths of the individuals. One may be a tactical genius and the other the ultimate motivator. One has the carrot, the other the stick. It’s left field to say the least and I’m sure it would never happen, but would be a fascinating experiment and could not be any worse than previous appointments of people like MM.

Brad Scott ain’t coming. Less stress, more influence at the AFL.
Clarkson, great record but frankly he probs needs some time away.
Lyon, stand out candidate from a distance, but apparently out.
Buckley, see Clarkson but with a lesser record. (And probably better in the media).
Pyle, ? Maybe, we’ll see.

Experienced assistants... starting to look like this the way to go.
Just kidding if course but Gomer Pyle would be real curveball.

He said no only once?

To be fair I don’t want us trying to beg someone who is ambivalent about doing the job.

Club need to get their heads out of their asses and go with the process they have outlined.

Stop thinking this is the 1980s and people will come to us just because Carlton, we are irrelevant now and are just a club who needs to do the hard yards to get better.

No messiahs, no magic rebuilds, just get the best and hardest working people you can and setup the best culture you can.
He may have said no twice, but nothing in that Fox article indicates he has.

Mick Malthouse won premierships so maybe we don’t need the best coach just a good one some very good assistants and a great list
Didn’t our list coach themselves in 95

I wish the club was this creative now.

And who has the final say?

needs to be a singular ‘leader’ who’s running the team.

can have a senior assistant who plays a major role, but at the end of the day has to answer to the senior coach.

Brad Scott is starting to appeal to me if we miss out on Clarkson.

Much prefer him to Pyke, whom I don't like at all

Why wouldn't you like Pyke?

Took Adelaide to a GF playing attractive footy, and has been praised as a key reason Sydney did so well this year.

If you're going to bring up the camp, that was instigated and pushed by Burton, Adelaide's Head of Football and essentially Pyke's boss.

Yep, that’s what we need, more confused people with little power for baldy to be able to control.....

Personally I think Sayers has been far from a disaster and he seems to have a clear intent and commitment to improving the football department and onfield performance. And as much as the media loves create drama and pontificate on decisions they would neither have the mettle or opportunity to ever make themselves, I can appreciate keeping other candidates on ice until Clarko was resolved etc.

And while I don’t tend to place much stock in the media reports - we’re now at a point, thanks to the seemingly endless leaking, where we need to set a direction and just stick to it. If Clarkson hasn’t ruled himself out, set a time by which we need an answer and do absolutely nothing until that time (days at most). Once that time has passed either he is on board, or we let it be known unequivocally he is out and run a fair, transparent process and pick the best available.

I place close to zero credence in Whately these days but he is absolutely correct that outside looking in, we are not a club giving the impression that we would be dealing in good faith with potential candidates. We must address that urgently.

Supposedly, the idea of our current list coaching themselves, well we probably saw the result of that the last couple of years, which was admittedly much better than under Bolton.
