2 weeks in and Sayers is learning what it means to be the chairman in a voluntary role. He is used to wielding power as a chairman in business - in those circumstances his colleagues have no choice and must fall in line.

As a new Blues president he has less actual power - colleagues leak, background and wield power. Yet, the sh*t stops with him and he gets the heat, and blame for every mis-step and **** up the club makes. Steep learning curve for such an experienced businessman.

On the other hand he has had 9(?) years on the board. Should be towards the top of the curve already IMO.

That's enough time to get a masters in all things football.

you wrote this below with reference to the club's program promoting respect for women - explain it, please........
You’ve shown that you’re not open to discussing contrary points of view on similar topics. Personal abuse generally follows. I’ll engage with you on this, but, I’ll put you back in MY dungeon if you become abusive.

Yes , I prefer the club cancels the CR programme ASAPP. I think it’s far too broad, and open to agenda’s too distant from the clubs core on-field objectives. I don’t mind if it’s replaced with some other well defined mutually beneficial community initiative linked to AFL performance. A premier indigenous programme might be worthwhile alternative.

On the current topic, had he attended, some of Lyon’s interviewers may have evaluated his audition through the lens of the organisation’s purposes and values. That seems to be the view of other s in here. CFC seems to have given a great deal of weight to that programme; seemingly more so than equivalent community programmes at other clubs. it’s not surprising that conflict between key decision makers, concerning these values, has started to emerge in media commentary.

This doesn’t feel to me like it’s the first time a key candidate has met insurmountable obstacles at CFC for reasons seemingly reflective of that programme. SL was one CEO that got away.

Honestly tho, he’s done enough work on his Ross the boss segment that he could literally walk in and in 45 mins outline the issues with our previous game plan, how he would correct it while still play an aggressive brand! Highlight the assailants available he’d like and why and then say I think the rest of my coaching career speaks for itself. That’s my presentation you know how to reach me and bounce.
If he’s too lazy or arrogant to do the bare minimum for a job he was clearly frothing over then there’s another reason *cough* Carlton Respects that proved too big a hurdle for the board to agree on him, so he just jumped in to save face.
Either way I’m not fussed. This is now our reality. There will be no saviour, just a group of individuals who work together to reach some thing akin to success…
We definitely need better assailant coaches

I always thought the most telling update from the review findings email from Sayers was that 4 board members were being replaced. Ah see Sayers is smart. He gets members onto the board he knows he can trust, a united board, one where goals and strategy are aligned, and a new look carlton can be fashioned.

Well, we can put the 'united' board idea to bed. Sayers and board and not on the same page, and until that gets fixed, i have doubts we will see any real improvement. Such a shame.

oh wow. I was way off.

Now I remember.. think it was Ashley Matthews I am thinking of. Think that was his name but did not know him. Only his sister but was from somewhere around Mooroolbark.

Warren McKenzie was from Mooroolbark. Could be who you were thinking of.

Apologies if this has already been pointed out - just a lazy 20 pages behind.

I’ve been thinking there’s a 95% chance our club is in shambles and making an absolute mess of things

and there’s a 5% chance Sayers is doing a brilliant job and trying to shake the system. We are rotten to the core and Carlton is where people’s careers die. He may be causing chaos, roughing a few feathers to actually try to fix things.

Boards are weird places.

Filled with successful business people, people who made their success doing things THEIR own way.

Then they get on a board with other successful business people who did it differently but still their own way and somehow they're expected to all pull in the same direction.

The board changes had nothing to do with the review.

2 board members (Pratt and MLG) their time was up.

1 board member (Judd), announced he was leaving 6mths ago

1 board member was there for the development.

The review wasnt whole of club, it was football department.

You've been running an interesting agenda for a little while now. Perhaps even as long as Sayers has been president.....

We seem to be having an identity crisis about our brand. CFC is a footy club, we’re not in the business of broad political idealism outside general mainstream. Our focus should be on high performance in AFL sport.

Im confused by this, how is it not?

Ross Lyon not wanting to go through a process or not wanting to be coach, doesn’t mean our focus isn’t on high performance.

Ive got no idea why he pulled out of the race, but I do think there would be enough doubt amongst certain coaching panel and board members in regards to his coaching history, that blaming it on the Carlton respects program seems a bit of an easy target/cop out.

I am disappointed he won’t be the coach fwiw

Sam McClure is correct on both fronts.
Well all I can say to that is that Sayers better have a Failproof Masterplan because leaks from those in question should not have been a surprise, almost expected, given current events, and even the threat of a mass exodus should not have deterred him from appointing RTB if > 50% of the board approved and made that promise.

Considering his confident approach and articulate conveying of our path forward to the media, the current situation is certainly testing his meddle and has the potential to be very divisive of members so the touted the EBM is no surprise.

Caro did call it on FC... she said she thinks he's trying to run it like a business...

Sayers has made assumptions and was wrong.

He approached Lyon a couple months ago, sounded out his interest in coaching Carlton, had him as the 2nd best choice behind Clarkson. He assumed the board would be okay with Lyon as a coach, he was wrong.

He’s been at Carlton for 9 years, knows all about the Carlton Respects program to promote gender equality established in 2016. I assume he would have been aware of Lyons workplace incident and settlement offer, but didn’t see any misalignment with the CR program and critically that other board members might have an issue.

He must’ve missed or forgotten Patty Kinnersly’s message in the Carlton News before last years CR game:

“We want our players, our staff, our sponsors, our members to all have a really strong thing about what they’re doing around respect for women in their own houses, in their sporting organisations, in their workplaces,” she said.

Don’t get me wrong I love Luke’s passion to improve Carlton, but he needs to balance being a maverick and consulting with his board.....also needs to read the newsletters.

Doesn’t surprise me that different ITKs post different information. ITKs get information from different sources, but because different information comes from different sources doesn’t make it any less credible.

There’s significant change going on at the club now. Some at the club will welcome it, some won’t. ITKs are just relaying the information they hear. If posters don’t like the information being relayed that’s not an ITKs fault.

If the information gets you “worked up,” guess you can either spend time questioning an ITK (instead of their information) or get outside and enjoy the day.
