We’re trying to re-enter the first round. Future first is up for grabs for the right deal.

Depending on the pick we get back, we may not yet be done with trade week just yet (the better the pick, the more currency we have for another trade).

This is an awesome rumour because we can now spend the next 1000 posts speculating which club with a top 10 or 15 pick would trade for our 2022 first rounder and which player (presumably contracted) would we use that first rounder on for a trade.

Presumably we would be looking at those coming out of contract at the end of 2022 first…

Edit: For our 2022 first rounder the two obvious options would be:
Richmonds Pick 15 (which they got from the Cats)
Brisbane’s Pick 14 or 18 (which they got from
Melbourne)

The price for Cerra seems OK. The only thing I think we've stuffed up is getting him today instead of before his birthday. Now he's 22yo, probably got 10 years left. Yesterday he would have had 11. I think we've really missed a trick there.

More likely F1 for a late first rounder and change.
Pick up someone with the change
That's how I read what reg_lower91 said

Maybe, but it definitely reads like we'd be trading the first rounder to me.

would have cost a F2 and not the F3

I'm still trying to wrap my head around it.

Who we would consider shipping a future first rounder for?

Tom Mitchell came to mind, but with the addition of Hewett and Cerra I don't really see that being a worthwhile use of assets.

Port apparently want a first rounder for Ladhams, but I don't know that he fits in our starting 22 alongside TDK, Harry and Charlie, so once again not a great use of assets.

The backline is sorted, don't see us chasing anyone to add down there.

A quality winger would be a need, potentially, depending on how we plan to use Walsh and Cerra.

Forward line could benefit from a top shelf medium or small, but there aren't any obvious targets I can think of who would be valued in the first round (ie. Gunston worth a third at best).

I'd consider flicking our future first for a first rounder this year on draft night, if we see a player we like on the board. Still love the look of Wangeneen-Milera as a winger with elite disposal.
Yep I can see Austin and Brodie wanting to jump back into the first round this year given the uncertainty of the draft. Maybe if Gibcus slids out of that top group or a particular kid they like?

Fair enough but we could just trade F1 for whomever we're after in that case

I don't know if it's been the lack of rumours. How efficiently we've got things done or a combination of both.

But this is the most stress free trade period in years

Trades out of the way early for fair deals and little fuss. Got Hewett as FA. Finalised our coaching panel with little to no rumours of them on here before they were officially announced.

Certainly been different from previous years.

You get the sense that Sayers is the driving force for this change and likes to conduct his business in private, but is a real go-getter and wants to get things done efficiently and quickly. Clearly the club have done a mountain of work behind-the-scenes recently.

So what would we trade our Future 1st for?

Do Fremantle want to take a gamble and trade #8 and #22 for it?

Essendon or Sydney (#11 or #12) plus a respective club's future 2nd?
This is just crazy guessing game but Sydney might do that / they will have 3 firsts next year cap space and might want to replace buddy with a King .. they love a marquee forward
Would we bring in O'Meara or Mitchell and change ? Is trading three firsts in a row leaving a big hole .. really beef out midfield

Gut feel is that clubs would conservatively have us at Pick 10-12 next year - might be earlier, but they'll deal on the worst case estimate to mitigate the risk of losing out. If they rate that being a stronger draft, then that may value our future first around Pick 7-10 this year. Means we'd be highly unlikely to get a second rounder back as well unless we're only getting a late first this year.

7. Richmond - might just miss the best of this draft and be open to deferring their pick a year, but 7 would be a big pick to gamble.
8. Freo - doubt it, think they'll want to keep bringing kids in now.
9. St Kilda - maybe?
10. West Coast - maybe?
11. Essendon - seem to want to keep drafting kids for their rebuild, doubt they entertain it.
12. Sydney - maybe?
13. GWS - seems right up their alley, already have Pick 2.
14. Brisbane - have to be a chance.
15. Richmond - more likely to see them flick this one than Pick 7.
16. Port - maybe?
17. Melbourne - would have to consider it, but would need to throw something else of value in.
18. Brisbane - second first rounder here makes them a good candidate.

Best options I see:
GWS - Future first for 13 and future third?
Brisbane - Future first for 14 and future third OR for 18 and future second?
Richmond - Future first for 15 and future third?
Melbourne - Future first for 17 and future second?

West Coast have to take a first this year so it rules them out.

I wouldn't want to trade our first for anything 15 or lower.

Sydney and GWS the two here I think.

You have to get overs when trading a future first as we could have a catastrophe and end up giving away pick #2 like the pies.

nah, footy fans judge players way too harshly
Sports fans in general hold the athletes to a ridiculous standard, on the field and off the field.

Judd was on to something 15 years ago when he said footballers shouldn't be idols. I suppose he would think that playing for Eagles and seeing what was happening in their lives at the time!
