Also, entertaining trades doesn't mean actively trying to trade or being very willing to trade.

I'd be more than open to hearing offers for TDK, but quite clearly indicating that for us to actually get into some serious talks it would have to be something it'd have to be a worthwhile offer. Imo he's not untouchable, but is expensive.

Agree with him up fwd too, I don't see it, especially with 2 other talls there already. But it gets talked about a lot.

I really don't think we can carry Pitt and TDK in the same 22. I really think it throws out the balance of the team as a whole, as IMO, neither are particularly good in the F50, and neither compliment Harry and Charlie. I think it's best we run with one of them, Pitt IMO, and a chop out/ part timer backing up, Young IMO, for the time being.

I said at the start of the season that he was at least 2 years away from being ready and stand by it.

A year of games was great for development, but clear detriment to the team performance. Clearly we had no other option to break eve , which absolutely cost us a few wins.

The primary issue is he's currently absolutely awful as a key forward too. He just has no forward craft or intelligence. They need to have a brief look at him in defence in early preseason, not because his brother is successful there but because he is terrible forward of the ball. If they detect some natural defensive instinct then keep working at it. If he's completely at sea in defence then we just need to go back to trying to teach him to play forward BUT just not at AFL level until he improves.

He can't play 70% forward with his current skill set. It's essentially playing a man down.

I agree completely. I'd even suggest he's a good two seasons away from being our number one Ruckman right now.

Glad someone else thinks this, sometimes I think I'm on crazy pills as everyone seems to say he can play forward and is a forward/ruckman. I have never seen him show any forward nous at all, the only assets he brings inside 50 are be tall and take a good mark occasionally if he has a free run and jump. He has no idea what space to occupy, when to lead, when to fly (if other keys are in the area etc) and like you say, it's essentially playing a man down.

Yep. Im genuinely interested in what he'd be worth in a trade.

There are multiple clubs interested in Dow. Although his preference is to stay, it would appear the club is looking to keep one of Dow or Setterfield. Depending on who could land us the best trade.

I always thought one of them would stay, one would be traded.

Yeah, but if you drop three players from your list, you need to bring three more one. It's not like it frees up $800k for a gun.
That’s true, but the point still stands.

200-250-350 could become 120/120/560 or 120/350/430 or whatever. Obviously depends on how many we’re planning on drafting, but there’s still a bit of cash tied up in those three.

If Setterfield is suggested to be of more trade value than Dow, wouldn't he be the one with more interest from multiple clubs?
Setters provides us with skills and deficiencies of what we already have in abundance and rumoured to have been on good money.

I’d prefer to keep Dow. Has a point of difference to our other mids. Explosive over first 5-10 metres. Has barely been given a go over last few seasons as a mid.

Having said this, I’d like to keep Setters too. Haven’t we already let 6 players go?

Question is, who do we want in the second or third round for the pick(S) we get?

Come at me. I’d ring Hawthorn and look to trade Dow and a future pick for Tom Mitchell. He is an accumulator week in week out, doesn’t take a week off. We need that experience still. Releases Walsh and Cerra wider. Hawks would welcome Dow I reckon.

What about Howe they delisted. No little about him. Come at me twice if ya want. Open season on the wooly one.

Me too.
Still hasn't dropped his head.
Got the right attitude. Persistence will hopefully pay off.

I'd reckon Dow is our only player being offered to others with any trade value.
But if we're only getting pick 45-50 what is the point?
Pick 30'ish is more relevant.

I’d ask for a 1st round pick. Jordan Clark left geelong for freo for what was equivalent to a first round pick. Couldn’t get games because they were a top 4 defence in the comp at the time. Well, dow couldn’t break into a top 2 midfield in the comp this year and is contracted so if they can’t give us what geelong got for Clark then we’d be more than happy to keep him.

I don't see a future for Dow at Carlton, seems to limited as to what role he can play on the ball and our group in there is really strong. This may change but to me he is a see ball get ball type who doesn't get involved when the opposition win it or when another Carlton player wins it.

Setterfield is a see ball get ball type who gets involved a little bit as a receiver but is really good when the opposition get it, he can also play as a tagger. He's got some worth.

Both go and it's all up to Carroll to be our depth. Get an injury and it's Carroll and then we fall back into playing 3 wingers and 4 onballers. Sticking Docherty in there etc. and maybe that is our plan anyway. Boyd replaces Docherty who goes on the ball.

As for TDK. Has created a highlights reel without breaking out as a forward or a ruckman. Had a pretty good game against Sydney but apart from that hasn't struck me as being incredible in either department. He definitely needs to put on more weight and strength and perhaps with that and experience he will go up a level but it would not surprise me at all to see him go down the same path as his brother and play CHB. Whatever happens he is going to need some special development to become key position as his one on one defending is no good and neither is his forward craft. It would mean we get a part time specialist coach in and he plays VFL. Which IMO should happen.

Dow for Wingard if we're going to outlandish.

We don't need Mitchell, we need some x factor up forward and a point of difference through the middle when required.

Come at me Sheepy :p
