No need mate, it's just lifestyle. Haven't you heard that everybody plays for peanuts at the Cats cause of the lifestyle. No offense mate but you need to get up to speed on the lifestyle.

This - "Hey Danger - you can earn $1 mill a year in Melbourne or we'll pay you $200K a year - but you'll be able to wet a line every morning"

For the love of God PLEASE stop with the Fish trade.

Fish had a great year and continues to fly under the radar.

He averaged 19 disp and 0.8 goals a game playing HFF with stints in the middle. Should. Not. Be. Sneezed. At.

That's more disposals than any of our forwards. AND more goals than any of our midfielders that didn't win the Brownlow medal.

By comparison, some of the game's best HFFs this year.

De Goey 21 & 1
Rozee 23 & 0.8

Fisher's literally giving 90% the output of two guys who could command salaries of $750-800K. And would be doing it at half the price.

Not too shabby IMHO.

I would start looking at the land holdings a lot of these Geelong players have and what price they paid for it.

Bomber Thompson became a very wealthy man courtesy of some geelong connections and land development.

Thompson's connection was * coterie member Mark Casey on a commercial parcel in Armstrong Creek. Casey also JV'd Warralily with Metricon

You know I love you FB, but those 2 mentioned players win a lot of their own ball and do pretty special things. I think the 🐟 has a but more growth to fit in the same conversation as those 2

But I do agree with the premise that he did have a solid year and really start to show some great signs of things to come

Yes!

I've said this before in an AA thread regarding true HFF's. Outside of Shai Bolton, Rozee and De Goey the other high-performer is Zac Fisher. A little bit behind those guys but he is absolutely a required player who adds layers to our HFF position. DC is the other who I'd love to see as a true HFF pinch hitting in the middle.

Im not saying to trade Fisher (at all), but if you were to trade him then you would want to do ti when his value is up.

Interesting stats, but in the end they are just stats, Fisher is still a good rung or two below those players for impact and ability to win games (at the moment)

And herein lies our problem. The mentality of not being ruthless enough from top to bottom of the club. Good enough is just ok.

Ruthlessness in list management is fraught with danger and maximising returns above all else is too narrow a focus.

A ruthless list manager would have moved on Ed Curnow - but what flow on effects could that have had?

We did the right thing by Will & that will serve the CFC better than a pick 20 spots higher.

Yep - we're never going to win a flag while Nick Austin is prepared to take a fourth round upgrade for an out of contract depth midfielder instead of sending him to the PSD for no return.

This..
How the foamers don't understand this is beyond me.

How much worse does the Bowes deal feel when you remember the draft concessions the AFL gave the sun's when we were as poor. Gave them ammo to try and screw us on the Martin deal.

AFL investigators need to crawl all over Geelong's books. The media spin it as good business operators, but I wouldn't be surprised to find strong board connections and opportunities outside of football (potentially non-contractual but verbally agreed) have an influence on individual club choice

I’m more suspicious about Lions’ books…
Cameron
Daniher
Neale
Gunston
Dunkley

Not sure how you can afford to bring in all of these players on top of their existing crop of good players.

They are not bringing in the first 3 you mentioned though Reg, they are existing players and have most likely had the bulk of their money paid already (front loaded)

Mcstay & Robinson gone, rise in the salary cap etc and they can probably get Dunkley & Gunston done comfortably.

Why is it with all the alternate spelling of Harry SHEEZEL, I keep thinking of....

View attachment 1533750

Speaking of alternate spellings imagine if we brought in Cunningham from the Swans - some of us will be shocked to learn David has just the one n

Or what if we recruit both Elijah Hewett and Brayden George. Would we say we recruited George Hewett or Hewett George? And when people inevitably refer to Hewitt will they mean George or Elijah? And if they say George will they mean Brayden or Hewett?

Thank goodness that none of our players come from "Mamungkukumpurangkuntjunya", or we'd be in real trouble...

Maybe for the 2's and injury reserve, does he add much to our midfield?
Reckon the club would find a way to squeeze him in if that was the case.

Played a few ‘odd’ roles filling for the Cats this year, but he’s still got his nous.

His finals experience would be invaluable and might have been the difference in a couple of our close losses last year.

Probably more likely to move into a full time coaching role though.
