Awesome effort. That is my best 22 also, all be it with a couple of positional changes. I also agree with the players you mentioned as needing to step up, except perhaps Nash who I think showed definite signs of doing so towards the end of this year. Cole I also have high hopes for, given improvements in fitness and perhaps attitude.

Quite a good line up except Id swap Campo and McVeigh for Heffernan and Dyson. Slattery should be in Peverill also and slotting in the back pocket, with Welsh on the half back line and MJ beginning on the bench.

My emergencies would be Ryder, Peverill, Dempsey and Davey.

I like that side, but somewhere i would have Nash. You only have to watch the St.Kilda or Carlton game to see the kid has talent and he is a very efficient user of the ball, something we need coming out of defence. I would swap Lovett and campo in that side to, as Lovett is set for Midfield this season. Campo to the bench for Davey who then swaps with Gus so we can bring him more into the play. So it would look like-

I dont agree that Dempsey is in our best 22. Still think he is a season or two of being a regular starter.

yes. The bench isn't a demotion, that's an old idea. Use him in bursts, conserve him. The bench was chosen to be flexible, and a group that can really make an impact when on - forward, middle or back.

I read a report on the recent intra club game, and it was supposed to be the firsts vs the seconds, and Johns was in the 2nds team I'm pretty sure. Hence why I didn't pick him.

I think he was in that team so he could play on Mal, plus the seconds team did'nt have the best foward line with gumby not doing much because of some injury.

- Lovett on a wing to provide the Michael Long pace we have been missing in the centre.

- Bradley with his mobility on the other wing to create a miss match and give us a bit of an advantage in the air when linking up from defense to attack.

- Even though he is first year Davey is a ready made player and with his pace and crumbing ability will be a good asset @ HF. Another area in which we have been lacking - probably since Darren Bewick.

- I have Pev on the bench purely for defensive reasons. The best 22 must have a tagger for opposition centremen He is still probably our best tagger but you could also possibly put Heff or Slattery here.

- I have seen a lot of arguments that we might be too tall in the forward line with Lloyd/Lucas/Johns/Hird. This will be our biggest weapon with the 3rd and 4th best defenders going to Hird and Johns. This will stretch every side in the comp! Plus dont forget that Jimbo is probably one of the best players in the comp when the ball hits the deck clean hands and can pick up and still kick the ball when he takes possession around his ankles.

Well, if the kid makes in instant impression as per his selection following his eye catching performances prior to being selected, the idea is to put some of our regulars under pressure. Thats the only way we'll succeed and eradicate the poor performances we've been putting out over the past two seasons.
