Three myths about Boomer Harvey again destroyed - hopefully for the last time - this weekend.

MYTH ONE: Harvey is soft

Boom played out the whole game with a broken thumb against a tough tagger who has had his measure before and clearly took the chocolates. Hardly the act of someone 'soft'.

MYTH TWO: Harvey is hungry and doesn't pass

Boomer set up three teammates with beautiful lace out stab passes in the last quarter for three decisive goals. As befits the bloke third on the all time goal assists list.

MYTH THREE: Harvey doesn't provide good leadership

The week after a fearful belting from Collingwood, Boomer's excellent on and off field leadership see the boys bounce back for a stirring win.

The bloke is a genuine all time champion of the game.

This the same bloke who was bent over by a nobody the week before? Champion he is not, a very good footballer at best.

Wow, our worst game for the year.

Harvey is one of the most accomplished players in the game and a genuine champion in his own right.

Myth 2 has formed over a career, it doesn't dissipate from one quarter of passing the football, but who cares Boomer is a champion and his record speaks for itself.

This one is undeniable.
Even former team mates have come out and admitted he is greedy. This is also part of bad leadership for a captain.

Yet he has the third highest goal assists in history and his pinpoint passing to teammates in better positions in the final quarter was a huge factor in opur win.

Destroyed.

None of these were destroyed, Harvey hardly had a touch for 3/4's of the game until Picken was hampered with his knee and Harvey ran off the leash in the last quarter, they were good passes but had no choice with a player right on his tail, had they not been there is no doubt he would have blazed for goal instead of passing, leadership is debateable.

16 disposals to 3/4 time, with barely any time in the midfield, is 'hardly a touch'?

I love the begrudging 'they were good passes' : at full speed, under pressure, on his wrong foot, they were sensational passes.

MYTH THREE: Harvey doesn't provide good leadership

That 50 metres he gave away at a crucial time in the game with all of the momentum going Norths way was very very ordinary, at best.

At worst it was a glory seeking hungry man showing shocking leadership.

The fact that you have started this thread speaks volumes.

You shouldnt have to defend a bloke after 10 years in the game.

Boomer is greedy and a bit soft, one game wont change that.

Still a fine player.

North supporters are very trigger happy with threads after a win.

Harvey has been a gun for a long time but seeking justification towards the end of his career proves the battle is already lost.

Gun player but some of those have an element of truth. A lot of great players have negatives poured over them. Brad Johnson/Lloyd tagged with being divers. Goodes/Judd umpires pet. Judd a dirty player. Riewoldt a rubbish kick and poor in finals. Pavlich and Riewoldt mentally weak in clutch moments. etc. etc. etc.

Elements of truth for all but the supporter of the player's team will always have a one eyed view.

Destroyed.

In at least two of the three you mentioned from yesterday he had no other option but to pass as he was being corralled by an opponent. Not saying he's selfish, I don't believe that to be honest, just pointing out that they weren't exactly examples of selfless play

disagree with most of you... he is a tough player and a champion of the game no doubt...

Who can forget all those years where North finished higher than anyone had expected and all anyone could put it down to was the 'shinboner' spirit... well guess what.. he was a HUGE part of that..

short memories people..

Perception is perception for a reason, will take many years of him not doing these things to break the tag not just a quarter.

Will never forget when he took that terrible dive a few years back.

Maybe he could have provided some leadership last week as well?

I thought it was one of Boomer's best games in terms of on-field leadership. After every passage of play he would talk to the players involved congratulate or point out what could've been done better for next time. Was really good to see.

He also had 4 goal assists in the last quarter alone.
