Brad Ebert was free for #10 but then we didnt pick him and now Eagles have him...
Im really disapointed!
He was young and next year he would of been ready to play:(
What are your thoughts are you happy with the #10 pick??

Happy with Pat at pick 10, obviously disappionted that we didn't take Ebert. At the end of the day, something was obviously the difference. Ebert slipped significantly, there has to be something in that.

Probably because clubs were scared he would go home at some stage. .

Got to WC's pick and he was way too good to overlook.

Not sure why Crows overlooked him tbh

I wanted Ebert because I know a lot about him. I couldn't believe it when we had the chance and didn't take him.

However Adelaide will have been watching both players and have judged Dangerfield to be the more likely player - probaby due to having greater pace than Ebert.

Only time will tell whether the club got it right or not.

Actually looking at Paddys stats they look pretty good.
Both of them would of been good ;)
Actually pretty happy with Pat

Agreed Macca. My concern is can we really afford to take the risk with the current state of our list?

I would say it would be a case of Ebert is a jack of all trades, master of none.

They could probably find that sort later on in the draft.

They wanted something better, and felt next year Dangerfield, given he was going into Yr 12, if he had have gone next year, was going to be a very very high pick (talking #1-#2).

Let's hope their right.

Ah..no.

Next years draft is very strong, he would have gone 10+ next year IMO.

How could you possibly know that? There is no way of knowing the type of season he is going to have next year.

True but he would have been top-age next year and no player goes at 1 or 2 if he was old enough to draft the year prior. Also, next years top few picks are very strong. Clubs would be all over guys like Hurley who is a mint KPP or Daniel Rich who is a cutting up the WAFL at 16 playing midfield. A half back flanker like Dangerfield who has kicking issues wouldnt be in the mix. Sounds like I am trolling here, I'm not. I like Dangerfield. But that comment wasnt correct re him going 1 or 2.

Congratulations to adelaide for having the courage not to take Ebert and Greenwood. Our list needs explosive pace and only from what I have read about most our picks, thats exactly what we have selected.:thumbsu:

Dangerfield is obviously a gun. He will not suffer from staying at home and having the occasional run over here in the holidays etc. Maybe it might be the fore-runner of other clubs doing the same. Selecting gun younger players and giving them time to mature. Quite honestly I think that David MacKay, Kurt Tippett and James Sellar would have been better off having another year at a lower level than AFL training. Long term it will be interesting to see how the battering that Bryce Gibbs took while playuing AFL this year will affect him. Dangerfield has performed at U16 and U18 level and has untold ability. Time will tell but I have no qualms about him not playing this year.

why on earth would the crows pick up a player not only from victoria when they could have had a south australian player and who wasnt playing next year due to studies?!?!?!?!
very disappointed with the crows!!!!!!
ebert would have been ready to play next season!!!!!!!

Because they thought he was better.

Morning All, first time member here

I am more than comfortable with the Dangerfield selection, I have seen this kid quite a bit and he is the modern day footballer

He has the height and speed to play as an inside or outside midfielder, he can play down back or as a defensive midfielder.... Most impressively, his clearance work at stoppages is outstanding

IMO selecting Ebert would of been an easy decision, Dangerfield is the better footballer and the AFC and it's supporters will be rewarded for this couragous selection.

The issue of the prospect of Dangerview returning home has been over cooked, IMO there is greater risk of Ebert wanting to return to Port

Great Selection AFC, Dangerfield is a sensational selection

It's been reported Dangerfield will complete year 12 studies in Geelong and play for the Geelong Falcons in the TAC comp

IMO People re over cooking the fact that Dangerfield wont be availabe to the crows next year...

Lets be honest, the kid is 17, like Ebert he would of had little impact on our 2008 season.

Rightfully so, the club has taken a longer view, I rate Dangerfield highly, he has Judd like qualities and he is worth the weight

Ebert tpp will play limited AFL footy next year for the WCE

But is Ebert the better long term prospect? The AFC obviously doesn't think so, and based on what I've seen I'm not going to speak out against them.

So if the "afc thinks so" that makes it right does it. The AFC also thought Bode and Angwin were better prospects than Burgoyne and K Cornes - was that right.

If they genuinely think Dangerfield is a better player, then you have to go with that. No problem there, but the big question is are they right in that assessment? That's the big unknown and always will be when the minimum draft age remains so low. And the AFC, while not alone, have a history of getting it horribly wrong so you lose a bit of confidence in their judgement.

Still its encouraging that the few that have actually seen the dangerous one play are positive about him.

What other measure can the AFC use when picking?

Perhaps they should poll websites as the best way of choosing their first picks?
