Today he had 8 possies, 6 hitouts, 5 marks and was on the way to kicking his 2nd goal midway thru the 2nd term before he did his groin.

After he went off, the likes of Playfair etc. in the forward line, hardly touched it either, and Blake and Mooney got killed in the ruck by White.

Agreed. I cannot state for a fact that it is directly attributable to Ottens, but when he's in the team our forward line looks potent, influential and convincing, yet when he's not in the team our forward line is a rabble and falls to bits.

He was your best.

I agree - he was our best for at least two years in the early 00's. And though he rubber-gloved the Tigers by baling out for the cash, he also bled for the yellow and black numerous times, and for that I can only wish him a speedy recovery from injury.

I also resent the attitude of many on this thread who take pleasure in the injury of star (or even nobody) players, whether they shafted their former club or not.

Best of luck Otto.

Ottens was always injury prone, at Richmond as well!

Ottens had a dodgy groin. He injured it sliding for a mark. With finals only 3 weeks away, imagine what the worst scenario you could do to yourself:

Have a shot at goal and tear it more, Then try and man up on the way off the ground when you cant even walk.

The bloke isnt the sharpest tool in the shed.

All the best to Otto. Have to say from a Richmond supporters point of view I didn't want to see him set the world on fire in his first year at the Cats, but he has had a bad run with injury and he will only get better. Geelong supporters do have a right to be disgruntled with his output. For all the talk over Simmonds, who I believe has had a very ordinary season, let's compare the 2005 stats between the two. Remember that Simmonds was traded for Fiora and Ottens two first round draft picks.

Avg Disp Avg Marks Avg HO Avg Goals
Ottens 11.5 4.6 11.9 1.6
Simmonds 12.7 5.6 12.1 1.2

Both very ordinary, but for the high price that Geelong paid, they need some output from the big fella.

The concern with Simmonds is not the money but the fact that if by the end of next year we dont belive he is the answer then we are stuck with him for some time

Simmo's going alright, considering we're paying him roughly what we paid Fiona, and half what we'd paid Otto, per year. And he's played all 19 games so far.

As for being "stuck with him", I'm quite satisfied that we'll get good value over the next four years. At a $240,000 average annual salary ($1.2M bottom-ended over 5 years), those "average per game" stats reveal that he;s probably better value for the dollar than some of the so-called stars of the league.

After all, if you're gonna pay a bloke $400,000 per year, you rightly can expect $400,000 worth of output. But don't go expecting $400,000 p.a. performance out of a $240,000 p.a. player.
