Essendon have no 1st round pick next year so pick 18 will go to the wooden spooner so not such a good result
I thought they did have a first round pick. They lost their second next year, right?

No first or second round picks in 2013 or 2014.
They have an end of round 1 pick next year.
The club is prohibited from using its first and second round selections in the 2013 and 2014 AFL Drafts, but they were granted a selection at the end of the first round of the 2014 draft. Essendon may trade in to any round of the 2013 or 2014 drafts.
Interesting technicality, so they lost their first round, but got back one after the premiers. Obviously a result of the last minute negotiations.
How so?
I assume they got something for rolling over and accepting the penalties, with the strange placement of this pick, it seems that was the concession.
Saw something today that suggested Jade coming over aswell.
I didn't mind Jade Rawlings at Richmond but since then he has been let go by Brisbane while his backline at Melbourne leaked like a sieve. If he comes to the club hopefully it is nothing more than a ruck coach or something like that.
West Coast’s coaching announcements continue this week, with the club today appointing former North Melbourne utility Brady Rawlings as an assistant coach.
Whats his role?
I don't think it's too late to get a full roster of assistants. Collingwood only got Burns a couple of days ago, Melbourne haven't signed up their coach in waiting yet, it's only been a couple of weeks since the season ended for Fremantle and Hawthorn and only one more week for Geelong and Sydney, North are still trying to sign Bassett so they're obviously still looking, several players who might go into coaching have only just retired. It may be later than many here would like, but I don't think it is by any means too late.

We replaced him today with Gavin Brown from Carlton.
That was bloody quick
Simpson wanted Rawlings so the club has done the right thing and backed Simpson.
I am excited for this appointment for the fact he could teach Shuey, Gaff and even Hurn a thing or 2 about breaking a tag and could even teach Scooter a thing or 2 about tagging.
