Brazil v England

This game seems to have it all - the noisiest sets of supporters (outside Japan/korea) and the history.

There's a good article on soccernet.com which talks about the 1970 game - the 1966 champs v the 1970 champs. One of the biggest sets of football talent on the one pitch at the same time.

Banks, Moore, Hurst Charlton etc for England and Pele, Rivelino and co for Brazil.

I can't seperate them at the moment - prhaps the heat might favour brazil, but with monsoon weather over china it might just be played in driving rain.

Early finish on friday !

This game is going to be a beauty.

With Ronaldo back in form it will spell disaster for the English.

Brazil 2 England 1

Brazil for the World Cup

Would love nothing better than for Ronaldo to kill em with an absolute wonder goal, step on Rio's head and make him look silly.

Does anyone else think Ronaldo might be able to eat an apple through a wire fence?

Two extra days rest will balance out the better skills of Brazil.
This one is in the lap of the Gods and is now probably the defacto world cup final. Whoever wins will win the world cup unless it's decided by bad refereeing.

I believe England will win, if they themselves believe they can.

Who have Brazil played so far?

Costa Rica?
China?
Turkey?
Belgium?

Belgium were probably the pick of the bunch, and had many chances to win against the Samba boys, if not for the sheer brilliance of Marcos. Turkey are servicable at best and I'm surprised they have managed to make it this far. Let's see what the Brazillian defence looks like under real pressure and let's see if Rivaldo, Ronaldo and co. can score a hatful of goals with Big Bad Bustling Sol Cambell breathing down their necks!

England need to keep Trevor Sinclair on the wing, and they need Owen, Heskey AND Vassell up front to stretch them. Sol also needs to be up there for set pieces so he can throw his weight around.

I disagree. England will defend and rely on Owens quickness along with Beckhams free kicks.......Becks is due one.

Well i think Sinclair needs to start on a wing, played wonderfully against Denmark. Owen with Heskey up front, if England havent scored at half time, bring on Fowler for Heskey. I believe Brazils defence is a bit shaky and Owen's quickness will test them.

1 - 1 with goals from Owen and Ronaldo.

England to win 4 - 3 on penalties.

I hope :D

Stuff em, hahahaaaaa. We'll see.

And by the way for all those that are thinking this is the WC Final and whoever wins will go all the way, there's a team called Spain around and they have blokes like Raul & Morientes that can blow games apart, I suggest they'll be having a huge say in who wins this World Cup.

BTW forget about their game v Ireland, they were lucky to get within a bulls roar, Spain very poorly coached in that game, if they'd left on the aforementioned strikers they'd have won a lot more easily.

Should be a great game, a must see match!

I've been going for Brazil in this World Cup so I'll tentatively pick them to win, not too confident though.

The 3R's will have to be on top of their game to get past the likes of Campbell and Ferdinand. Brazil's defence seems a bit suspect, and the likes of Owen and Beckham should try to exploit this.

I predict 2 - 1 to Brazil with Roooonaldo scoring a '89 minute pearler to win the match for the Seleção.

belgium had plenty of opportunities to score against brazil who were lucky that marcos was in fine form. whils't they have the strike force in rivaldo, ronaldo, etc to create goals they are definately suspect down back. if sol and rio can keep the defence organised and owen is playing, i expect england to play a counter attacking game with owen being the main focus up forward.

with any luck england 1-0. :D

MB, what about Ronaldinho Carlos and Denilson, it isnt just Ronaldo and Rivaldo you have to worry about. I think everyone is quick to undermine Brasil because they had one average performance which i think you can put down to complacency. I mean RobertoCarlos was saying before the game they werent worried about Belgium, they had no game to worry them, how cocky is that! And they played like it too, not playing with any determination or intensity at all, they looked very complacent.

However I think they're taking this game a lot more seriously, you should see a different performance.

By the way, if it had've been England playing Belgium, who's to say they'd have won? Belgium rolled CzechRepublic to get in the Cup, they've beaten France recently, it's quite possible they're a pretty good team.

deej, i'm not mb, he is htbs, the artist formerly known as hit the boundary saints. :D

denilson is the classic example of why brasil are vulnerable at the moment. individually he is brilliant with the ball at his feet but as a team player he is selfish, the same can also be said for ronaldo and rivaldo. they are a team made up of some brilliant players who have shown some great skill in this world cup but at the moment they are riding their luck against their opponents by producing on the scoreboard. the english defence has been very solid over the last few games whereas the brasilians still have carlos and cafu roaring down the ground exposing the likes of roque junior. ronaldinho and juninho are also attack minded midfielders whilst scholes and butt can defend and attack as neccessary.

should be a great game of contrasting styles. brasil can win with a flash of brilliance where as the structured english game might blunt the brasilians and punish their lackluster defence, especially if owen plays.

i'll be leaving work early to get into town to watch the game at a pub then head off to colonial to watch the saints hand the dogs a kicking. could be a very messy night if both results go my way.

:D :D

The problem for Brasil is that England have the best defence in the World Cup I believe. only 1 goal conceeded so far, not bad.

Brasil do have the individual brilliance of Ronaldo and Rivaldo to look for but their back for is looking anything but stable which will allow Owen, Heskey, Scholes and other room to get shots off.

England 2-0 or 2-1

But no mater what whoever wins this match will win the world cup.

Mills is a bit of a worry though. At the other end, Owen is a tough match up for Brasil. Anyone game to try some match ups?

Maybe I'm not happy cos I backed Belgium but I really reckon Brazil were VERY lucky to win. How was that goal disallowed???
Then again, Man Utd had a hell of a lot of luck whilst on the way to winning the treble in 99. Good teams just seem to be able to ride their luck and then still find a way to win when it's not all going their way.
Becks will hit the target if given a chance soon and Scholes is also due to pop up.
England 2-1 (Brazil's goal from a penalty given by Mills)

Poor Danny....he's only trying his best. I want to see Danny rewarded - and raising the Cup!

Anyone know what time the game is on? UK time?

Brazil have won four games and scored 13 goals in the process.
Yes .apart from Belgium , who should probably have opened the scoring at least , they've played mediocre opposition.
But they have not yet gone above third gear and are full of confidence - they will go all the way.
England have scored five goals and won only two games.
We could not beat Nigeria , Sweden , Cameroon or S.Korea in the past month.

Friday will be what Rio Ferdinand said he doesn't want - namely , a brave defeat , by 3-1.
Inexperience will cost us dearly, probably to the point of conceding penalties or a sending-off, but the team will be better for this reality check by Euro 2004.
I'll change my tune only if we're two up with a minute to go .

Still , we've beaten Argentina and gone further than them , France and Italy.
And most - me included- didn't expect us to qualify from the group.
Whatever happens , we've had a good World Cup.

I'm livid! My exam doesn't finish until 4:15. Game starts at 4:30...

If you see someone tearing down the eastern freeway at 150kph, it's me.

One thing I'll be looking out for is how the two sets of fans interact. They both have a band and make lots of noise. And have been quite well behaved recently (probably because they haven't lost yet)

Like my Bulldogs, i have never seen England win a World Cup. I have seen them faulter many times, never seen them hold up the Cup.

This time around, Football is coming home, and thank god.

England look awesome, and their defence should hold up, where as Brazil look very ordinary...

If England win this World Cup, i'm going get three Lions tattoo'd on me :D
