Dermie is a tosser.....agree
The tossers article is spot on.......agree

The bit about Boomer being selfish is interesting. I agree that he is, but I also agree that it is a good thing when we are attacking. I think the point Dermie is trying to get across is that he is selfish for not running as hard the other way.

Put it this way, how many times have we seen Boomer running flat out with ball in had? Hundreds.
How many times have we seen Boomer running flat out to chase down an opponent? None that I can think of.

That's someone else's problem...which seems to be a current problem from front to back.

Ya know MR B I reckon his defensive pressure has been much better this season, but in fairness we're talking about one season out of about twenty.

Was about to say the same thing. Besides dermie's main issue with boomer is that he always takes the shot for goal...that is the context under which he originally called him selfish last year. It was complete BS then and it's complete BS now. Gary Ablett Jnr plays an identical way to Harvey (always takes a shot when within range) and has never once been called selfish (except for a couple of moron Collingwood supporters when he got 54 possessions against them a few years back but they weren't human so it doesn't count)

I can think of examples, but it's true Boomer uses much more energy it attack than defence. Which this team needs him to - but if we accept that he won't be able to go full bore both ways, it demands that other players step up to fill the breach defensively. I don't think he's too selfish because that is his best value to the team - I just think the other players don't do enough to give us that luxury. As people have said so often, Boomer should be the icing, not the cake.

The article annoys me, because of how he talks and the bit where Carey agreed that Boomer was selfish (and this was when it was absolutely, categorically not true), but I can't argue with much of it. Boomer's selfishness and LT's flopping are overplayed, but there are issues there that we would be a better team if we could address. And I don't know how anyone could disagree with the central point that the team has past performance, talent and experience that says it should be much better than it is, and the thing that's stopping them is not having immoveable standards of performance for themselves and each other.

Thinking about all he fast players in the league, I can't think of one that runs as hard defensively as they do when they are attacking, maybe Cyril, but that's it

Who gives a flying **** about what this total campaigner of a human being thinks? If he's still employed by Fox Footy next year my subscription goes down the toilet.

The LT and Boomer stuff is just fill. The most damning stuff is the contested ball stat(woeful) and the team demography (same as Hawthorns)
Put those together with the shocking inconsistency and you have a picture of failure without the excuse of inexperience. The next generation have not delivered on their promise and are still as inconsistent and heartless as they were two years ago.
Brad Scott has had five years to deliver a team and what we have is a product that is light years away.
The skill level isn't that far away but the culture, structure and leadership are all completely substandard.
How many ordinary performances by Scott and North are needed for the world to declare them failures? When does the coach start to take responsibility for what he has created?

I am wondering if this was a set-up by the coach. Not prepared to whack them himself he gets someone else to do it. In written form so he can point to it and say "look what they are writing about you, are you going to respond?"
Mind games the lot of it.
And as for Boomer being selfish, if he is going to kick the goal, I am all for it. Wish Daniel Wells would take a leaf out of his book sometimes. I want them all to be selfish and take the game on.

They deserve everything they get, hard to disagree with anything he wrote. This hiding is only going to worse before it gets better, especially when Brads "big change" against probably the best team in the competition, is to bring in McMahon, Anthony and other blokes who have failed to cut it at AFL level.

As if Bradley Hill and Rioli don't use more energy in attack than defense?
If we have a problem, Boomer ain't it.

Yes, and all the SEd has done is given Boomer the impetus to come out firing tonight...a photo of Boomer with 'Selfish' photo shopped across his body ffs.

So now we know what Jack Reacher does for a living. ;)

They don't have the same team demography as Hawthorn's at all. He creates that stat by pretending "50-200 games" is a thing. A 200 game player has been playing for more than seven seasons longer than a 50 game player - they aren't in the same demographic by any stretch. Hawthorn had the nucleus of this team when they won the flag in 2008. At the same time, North had barely started recruiting the nucleus of this side.

FWIW David King talked about Brereton's article this morning on SEN and the only issue he had with itt was, as mentioned by many, his targetting of Boomer. As he put it "There'd be at least 12 players more deserving of a bake than him, and I'd start at the top with Drew Petrie".

Yeah Dermie is a moron but take the LT and Harvey comments out of that article and it is spot on

That was my take. Just taking an opportunity to back up shit he's said on radio and TV. Clearly hurt feelings from being challenged on his opinions.

Rest of the article spot on.

Derpie's been harping on about this all year, backing us as a darkhorse for the flag on the back of it. Understandably, Mike Sheahan style, because he's backed us throughout he's feeling more let down by our poor performances as he's emotionally invested in our fortunes this year.

pretty piss poor effort to target Harvey (dejavu from few years ago) and NDS instead of targetting the players who have actually under performed. Petrie, Basti, Black, Adams
