If we lose games the Papers will say 'Well Deledio is going anyway, lucky him'.......If we win games they will turn it around and say the following year he won't be with us anyway so we'll be a poorer side in 2013.

Call Lids and his manager in. Offer him a sum. If he doesn't want it, he's leaving. No BS about Finals....that's disrespectful to the RFC. Make him spend the year in the Burgers. Stuff him.

That's not really how it works mate. You can't huff and puff and say "sign now or you won't play all year". Players and clubs are entitled to put off contract talks. It's Lids' manager doing what he is payed to do. Get the best price for his client (and the most commission for himself).

No ones going to boo him because he hasn't signed yet. If they do then they are ********s. You have to understand football is a business, and at the end of the day players feed their families from this business, it's their job. I believe Lids will stay, but I think he will do the smart thing for himself and milk as many dollars as he can. I also think that us making the finals is important too. If we have a disaster year he might seek a game elsewhere, but if we are tracking along nicely I can't see why he'd leave.

you're right no player is bigger than the club so imo not buying memberships bc of some petty reason is wrong. you buy 1 bc you support RICHMOND. do it unconditionally.

Most sensible ones aren't. There's nothing in the articles to suggest he is leaving. However some have been stooged by the herald sun and will now turn on him.

I completely agree with this, we have no reason to turn on Brett. He has been a great player for us through 7 tears of absolute shit, for a number of those years he was the only shining light for us.

He has not said he is going, I remember numerous articles like this about Pendles, Swan etc and it amounted to nothing. Yeah the stuff about Ablett and Scully turned out being the truth but over all thats two A grade players from about 30 that have been said to be leaving their clubs which is pretty good odds.

Lids is a tiger until we have it confirmed otherwise and should be treated as such. Don't disrespect the guy he doesn't deserve it. If he does end up leaving via RFA we get compensated and considering he is currently our best performed and highest paid player we will get some pretty damn good compo in uncompromised drafts

The only reason to "turn on" Lids is if he wants to leave the club to ride on a rival's success and play finals, rather than strive to push us into an era of success. As one of our most senior and most talented players, I feel it's up to him to get us to finals as much as anyone.

The last thing Richmond should do is panic ala Darren Gaspar saga, those kind of deals sink the future recruiting and development of a side.

In saying that even though the article doesnt have any direct quotes from Deledio himself and its just a part of football the fact that his management has put contract talks on hold must have some kind of alarm bells ringing IMO.

since becoming an old codger i am pretty pragmatic about these situations. I completely understand Lids position, sheesh would he wanna retire having the record as most games without a final...i think not. It's a reasonable challenge to the RFC but one that neednt sidetrack us either as a major sideshow throughout season 2012.
