Now in fact

Still trying to win games. Learn something about players wanting to be part of this club.
Dittmar saying Chad is Port's best player but is going to be asked to retire. Duncanson said it will be Chad's decision not a club directive. The way he is playing is an example to young players.
Denies Port is tanking. Goes out every week to win. Deliberately losing erodes club ethos.
Tough decisions to be made about list at end of season. Players need to know what is expected to stay on list. Football first.
Dittmar saying those things should have been said already. Duncanson guarantees there has been open and honest conversation between Matt and players.
Duncanson saying lot of conversation at club what is needed next year around Matt to succeed.

Song now (Models - Out of mind, out of sight). Brett back after.

Already chasing players. Been very active. More aggressive than in recent years. Retention of current players a priority.
Structure around Matty - long way down track in getting some key positions filled next few weeks. Will be bringing things we need to club.
Trengove and Carlile - Brett met with both. Explaining to them and family and management. SANFL took them to SMA and took them through the Adelaide Oval development.
Finances - positive news with transparency by AFL/SANFL reinvestment. Additional football spend. Out in marketplace to ensure revenue lines for next year.
Foundation Leaders support on Saturday night.
Hunt for new CEO. Brett joked Ditts paid too much by MMM to move. Using external consultant. 40 applicants have a short list and starting interviews shortly.
UnPort Adelaide performances raised by Dittmar. Not a good term. Creed doesn't mean anything to some young players. Time for them to read and understand it. Don't put in then get out. (these are all Dittmar's comments). Brett acknowledges no one is hurting more than Matt. Find people that want to play for Port Adelaide in the Port Adelaide way. Time for club to make its own history (while acknowledging the history).
Key message to supporters - we don't accept this. Young players as a reason for losing is not acceptable. Play like Port and win.

He is making the right noises re messages to certain players - it better be backed up with real action to show that we are fair dinkum. If it means we lose fan favourites for a packet of twisties - then so be it.

Not tanking but we are going to play youth regardless of form..

We are bottom, it's not going to hurt to admit you've gone for gaining experience over results and used games as training. If we lose by 10 goals week after week but no changes are made it is always going to upset more senior players who are overlooked purely because of age = tanking for the future not so much picks this time.

We are in a position we have to play youth. It's pure and simple fact that our boys won't get the development in the SANFL as they aren't following our instructions, so we have to play them at AFL level.

Good on him for coming out and supporting the youth. I for one will be much happier Saturday watching Pittard, Moore, Hitchcock and go running around

One comment that caught my attention was when he was asked whether the lack of performance was due to the players themselves or Matty not getting the best out of them and he said "a bit of both".

Interesting that Matty is getting some blame from the President - wonder what that will mean long term.

Dittmar saying Chad is Port's best player

Jesus, the guy has a couple of good games after about two years of average form and suddenly he's our best player again. Chad WAS a star, but he is a decent-to-good player these days, nothing more. I can see why the media are pushing this agenda, because he's a big name and people will tune in when they talk about him, but the agenda that they're pushing is reaching ridiculous proportions. Even Chad would surely be embarrassed hearing comments like that.

Based on this interview and a few others of Matty's over the year and the reference to 'humble' it makes the non-selection of Surj and Mots et al more understanding. I think that maybe - I was in denial about it last year - that did the spat between them indicate a 'me before the club' attitude which is what the club is trying to eradicate.

I think Dittmar has this thought in his head because he <3s Chad and Surj and they have hardly been picked. He gets together with a few like minds with Dean Bailey's comments ringing fresh in their shell likes and hey presto hive mentality.

We're just not very good ... to be gentle.

Do people actually think we are tanking?

I'm really not sure. I just can't believe we are this bad.

I said to RussellEbertHandball at the start of the season that if we made the finals it would be a good year and if we managed to win one it would be a great year. Obviously I was delusional but I had high expectations based on how we finished last season and I rated us better than all the teams around us last season. Apart from West Coast who finished below us I still think fully fit we are better than the Camrys, Melbourne, Richmond etc.

Now we have had injuries and some players terribly out of form but I seriously think we went into this season, as evidenced by the selections of round 1, to just get games into kids and build for the following years.

Is that tanking?

My one problem with Brett (and I heard the interview) is that I don't know where the spin ends and the truth begins.

Along with Haysie he has obviously been working very hard over the past 18 months ..... But he just seems to keep dangling the 'good news in a few weeks' carrot all the time ... I want those few weeks to be here now :)

I do.

Surely if Chad, Ebert, Motlop, Surjan, Salopek played everygame when not injured we would have scored a couple more victories.

Not to mention tanking could be influenced by training also.

We should have been good to get 5 wins but what's the point!

I don't think we're taking.

We're just very ordinary and the players that have been dropped have been assessed as not good enough to play consistent AFL footy.

As an example of my earlier post, Duncanson would have known full well last night - as did 99% of the footy world, that Chad was retiring today ...

Similar to his comments the day before Haysman resigned.

I listened to this last night and most of this I thought was utter bullshit. Sure its what you have to say, but its crap.

We are not putting our best team on the field. FACT. We are planning for the Future. FACT. Of Course Chad is being asked to retire. FACT. By not playing your best team and playing for the future ie draft picks, sorry you are kind of tanking. FACT. If deliberatly losing erodes the club ethos, well that's what you are doing. FACT. Sure tough decisions need to be made, but I'm not really sure the players give a shit and it seems a few are looking for a trade. FACT.

We aren't tanking, but we are playing a side with long term goals rather than aiming for wins in the short term.

Slight difference :p
