Prior to the addition of teal, the club put forward silver and it was knocked on the head by the afl as it was not contrasting enough from white. We would be having as much of a headache pushing silver bars as we do with white bars.
Teal was sold a lie by our club as its most popular colour because it followed the marketing gurus assessment and the outsiders telling us ad nauseam that we had to move away from black and white if we wanted to grow our supporter base. It was a HUGE fail.
Silver and teal on the PB is not what we've been wearing for more than a century and loving whilst winning bucket loads of premierships.
Mature fair sporting organisations don't waste time with these issues. They have a simple solution, the away team changes strip. We all know this.
If afl clubs can wear identical jumper designs then they can wear identical colour schemes.
As a journo once said, us wearing the B&W PB doesn't make Collingwood any less Collingwood.
The narrative needs to change to be that it is time for Collingwood and the AFL to grow up rather than Port to compromise all and sundry forever.
The Prison Bars are black and white.... Personally I'd prefer grey PB's to waiting another 20+ years ...
Yea I'd like to see battleship grey/silver tinkered with a bit, I think a black guernsey with silver & white chevrons could look great.I don't think teal is a fail at all. I think we have a unique identity with it. It's unfortunate that it's been front and centre in some awful branding for us and not used responsibly. I hope teal is always a part of our image.
Just behind black and white.
As for battleship grey, I like that too, but I'd also like to see some silver.

I consider the PB's to be the design. The Prison Bars are black and white.
So you are saying you'd rather not wear the Prison Bars than wait 20 years to wear the prison bars.
People wonder why the club is not pushing the Prison Bars issue harder when we have this kind of logic coming from the supporter base.
So you don't see the traditional prison bars as being a design but just a pattern that can be produced in multiple colour combinations.I consider the PB's to be the design.
The logic is sound with that perception.
Of course if you consider the PB's to be the design + specific colours then the logic does not make sense.
Not sure why I even have to point that out.

Teal is literally just a 90's marketers wet dream.
-Charlotte Hornets
-Vancouver Grizzlies
-Florida Marlins
-Jacksonville Jaguars
-Mighty Ducks of Anaheim
Its any wonder we went teal when it was all the rage in the states at the time.
Personal preference.
Easier to switch to a lighter shade that resembles white.
Timeless.
Stronger.
In my opinion silver PB's >>>> Chevron's with teal.

Teal is sh*t.
The one thing I like about teal is its easier to spot up on a grey day when you are looking to hit up a target.... and would have the same issues with approval as the original version.
IMO, people's aversion to teal has less to do with the colour and more to do with the fact that it was seen as being forced onto us.
The fact is its hue has been adjusted to be more of a straight bright blue than real teal and it does distinguish us within our local market as well as on the national stage.
Black, white, blue, and silver is a strong colour combination for branding and marketing without 'tainting' our foundation colours of black and white.
Take away the emotional reaction to the 'imposed' colour and I think most people would see it as a strong and appealing colour combination for a professional sporting club.
The above should read;If we were to run out in silver and black PBs then we will never run in our black and white ones.
Yep, because I put on my big boy pants and accept that Collingwood were in this particular competition first, and at this stage no team can have the same colours and a similar design to Collingwood and I don't want to wait for Eddie to die before that changes. If we were to run out in silver and black PBs then we will never run in our black and white ones.
BUT IT LOOKS CLOSE TO WHITE
It isn't though. It's not white. It's not the real deal. And you'll always be someone who was happy to compromise our identity because it was closer than teal.

I don't think caving to the unreasonable demands of an irrelevant but loud and well connected lobbyist counts as putting on your big boy pants.Yep, because I put on my big boy pants and accept that Collingwood were in this particular competition first, and at this stage no team can have the same colours and a similar design to Collingwood and I don't want to wait for Eddie to die before that changes.
Originally the silver wasn't acceptable, there is enough change now to that position.
Look at our away kit.
AFAIK I'm allowed to have a different personal opinion to you, correct?
Your welcome to have the opinion that you are happy to wait another 20 years for the possibility of BWPB's in anything but a home showdown, I'm not that patient.

We won't even get Silver is close enough.Of course you can have a different opinion.
I just think that opinion compromises any sort of principle. I can have that opinion too. We negotiate and float that we'll accept a silver alternative, it will have those who don't want this licking lips. We would have been successfully talked away from our goal, because 'at least it isn't teal'. And for the rest of eternity, we won't get another chance, because we'll get told that silver is close enough. Our own words back at us.
