Re: Brisbane Lions Trade Talk Thread 2009

Bloody hell I think I would rather Exodus Watch to this shambles.

Staker
Ebert!!
Hadley
Raines
Tuck
Buchanan
Peake
Ball
Maguire

Yuk, yuk, yuk.

I think some people are still living in 2005.

The only two players I would have a genuine interest in are Fevola and Lovett. And both will be too expensive to be of any interest to us.

Is everyone aware we have a salary cap as well? And it's probably close to bursting.

Re: Brisbane Lions Trade Talk Thread 2009

Salary cap yes.

What about speculating a bit with loose change?
Pay peanuts, get .....

Don't quite understand the angst about a possible Fevola trade involving some of our key commodities. The bloke is a spanner but with all due respect to Bradshaw, a forwardline with Fev and Brown in it will be near unbeatable. But I reckon Ho Ju's 0.02% of it happening is a little generous. Can't see him leaving the Blues.

Actually I do understand the hesitation (and downright anger by some) in entertaining a trade for Fev. But I find it a little hard to take when others are suggesting blokes like Buchanen, Tuck, Hadley, and Brown.

We don't need to trade for the sake of trading. I have doubted Voss at times in the past and proven to be wrong. But I hope he knows what he is doing looking at some of these very average footballers.

I agree with you here Warwick. But what I find slightly bemusing is how so many people are in favour up picking up Lovett, but are totally against recruiting Fevola.

I know that Lovett has got great pace, kicks goals etc etc. However the facts are that he actually has more off field backage than Fevola.

Fevola is just an idiot of a bloke with the drink, but a great footballer. Lovett I'm afraid has done far more serious things.

I'd be inclined to say no to both of them at this stage.

But to your main point about the average footballer's listed above. Maybe Vossy is hoping that one of them ie Raines might be another "David Rodan" story ?

By the way, I think that JMac is better than all of those footballer's you mentioned above (Except Fevola & Lovett of course).

Not wanting to rain on your parade.....The salary cap bursting......???..give us a break....The salary cap - "Total Player Payments"was A$7,693,750 for the 2009 season it has a salary floor set at A$7,116,718.75.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salary_cap#cite_note-9.=92.5% which all clubs must spend.....So all clubs are in our position..

Certain payments are excluded from the cap, and concessions are available for some players, in particular, "veteran" players (those over the age of 30, who have also completed 10 seasons with their current club) maxium 2 per club and "nominated" rookie listed players who are all discounted by up to 50% for purposes of the cap.

The only guys I can see on our list that are on the big $'s are

Brown, which is back ended so we can put him on the veterans list in 2 years time..coinciding with Bradshaw's contract

Bradshaw already on the Veterans list so only half of his wage counts

Power & Black..both have served 10 years and will have turned 30 before October 30th 2010... We'll put the highest paid on the veterans list

Our Salary cap bursting.....The story's got more holes in it than a crumpet!!

Yeah but...

Only one retirement, Tim Notting. Wouldnt have been on a big wage.

We would have some players due for pay rises... Clark, Brennan, McGrath, Sherman....

Re: Brisbane Lions Trade Talk Thread 2009

You are so very clever. I could not see what you were doing there at all.

Finally !!
If you can, extend that card to PSD as well, so he'll just piss off for a while.

yep & with delistings etc on average a third of Club lists comes out of contract...Thus player movements.. thinking their worth more than is on offer

..and to cover that the Players Association made a collective bargaining of increases in the cap of 3.5%, 2009 3.3% 2010 and 3.3% 2011

2010 - $127.4 million ($7,962,500 per club)
2011 - $131.6 million ($8,225,000 per club)

Our salary cap is no worse off than anyone elses

Re: Brisbane Lions Trade Talk Thread 2009

I genuinly feel sorry for you blokes, it seems from the small snippets ive heard from Vossy that he will never say never to a trade and will always look at an option. That means for as long as he is your coach every possible player out there will be linked to Brisbane in a trade, you are the new Collingwood*!!

*Except with dignity, respect and the ability to win a grand final rather then just get there.

As long as his success rate when it counts is better than Malthouse's. . . I can live with it.

Re: Brisbane Lions Trade Talk Thread 2009

Hooper to be traded

Speculation surrounding Brisbane includes:

Tigers veteran Nathan Brown (WTF? - hopefully as a staff member - so over all these Richmond people lol) heading north to again work with former Richmond, now Lions assistants Jade Rawlings and Craig McRae.

Ex-Lion Richard Hadley coming back to Brisbane to bolster midfield stocks.

Essendon's Andrew Lovett leaving the Bombers in exchange for Michael Rischitelli and draft picks.

West Coast defender Brent Staker trading places with WA-product Bradd Dalziell.

Richmond's Andrew Raines coming to the Lions for a draft pick.

Re: Brisbane Lions Trade Talk Thread 2009

With Robert Campbell out, would it be a good idea to check with Hawks regarding Charman ? As much as I like Jamie, he'll be a very expensive reserves player next year. Offloading him will free up cap space big time, while giving us a chance to get our inside mid target Kennedy.

Edit:  .. posting Jamie Charman's trade right below brisbanelioness.. better run now ! :D

I think he is one of the more interesting players when it comes to trading this year. It comes down to thinking that will Luey and Clark be injury free this season and next and also what does Charman want to do...play second fiddle or try and get a gig elsewhere. Chopperduck also alluded to that GC may be interested next year.

Talk of him being traded last year and not getting a hit suggest maybe other clubs aren't interested (if it actually happened).

Brisbane don't get much of a run in the newspapers in Melbourne (or over in the West I would suggest). He is just putting the brand out there....seems to be working your talking about us.

Re: Brisbane Lions Trade Talk Thread 2009

My view on Charmo is still the same, for me, weather he plays or not, he is a required player for next year at least. We have 2 young rucks that have had injuries in the past, so there is every chance at least one of them will go down and miss a chunk of games. But also we have a couple of other new guys in Murray and Bart, both look like they could fill the 3rd ruck role, but its just too early to tell. We need at least another year to get a decent look at these two, and if worst case senario is Charmo is playing reserves with them, i think it will only help their development.

I think we can take another look at Charmo this time next year, but unless an offer comes up that is too good to over look, we just can't risk him yet. Kennedy would be an interesting trade idea for Charmo though.

Totally agree with your views on Charman, injured ruckmen have had an impact on plenty of clubs recently, I think most of us would have loved to seen him out there this year.

Also when he is fit and firing Charman has a great presence on the field.

That is a swap I would be in favour of. Even throw in a late draft pick. Kennedy has impressed me.
