I feel like after a 8 seasons of the finals bye the week off for qualifying winners should be well accounted for by now. teams should know now what they need to do eg: whether it be a intraclub match for 1 hour with no tackling etc. Geelong thrived off it last year and Melbourne the year before.
I agree with that mate. Big difference between the ordinary byes etc is these ones aren't mandated time off by the AFL/AFLPA meaning the boys stay at the club.

I think the week off will actually be a big benefit. Remember this season was an extra round in the home and away season with the gather round in Adelaide.

I look at a player like Josh Dunkley who wills himself in every contest - he was looking sore with a month to go in the season. He has now had two weeks off in the last three weeks. He will surely benefit from that?

Even the older guys like Zorko and Neale will appreciate the rest and they're professionals - they know their bodies. You don't lose fitness overnight. Wasn't a problem for Geelong or Demons in the previous two years.

My biggest concern with Gardiner is the free kicks he give away especially against the bigger opponents.
Payney does some silly stuff sometimes which gives some cheapies away but I can’t remember him giving too many free kicks away??
I think the secret is to minimise their inside 50’s by winning it out of the middle. We get it forward and we win.

Gardiner’s footwork and legs have given up on him. Maybe that ankle injury was worse than we thought.

Watching him play and train today was like watching some of our assistants jump in to help the boys with some drills. His take off speed and movements are just so slow. He noticeably lacked any intensity in the run/handball drills too.

Not sure about you guys but I’m really worried.

Curnow can be very quick at reacting to a kick landing short. If he gets a step on a Payne or Gardiner and gets to leap at it, then it’s trouble.

So the mids can do their role and pressure the ball coming in, it still may end up in a mark depending on whether we can go with him off the mark and/or we have the holes in the 50 filled.

But I do expect us to be able to fold back, assist and rebound for longer than they can. Which is where we hopefully win the game.

Interesting to note talk the blues will drop a running player for McKay

Yes it could stretch us - 2 rucks with one rest forward alongside mckay and curnow

But They looked to be out on their feet late v dees. Some risk in taking away some run.

Payne not only playing but being fit would really calm me.

A poster on carlton’s board seemed adamant he won’t play but wouldn’t be the first time it was bad mail. Still sometimes it’s right
I think in todays game run trumps just about everything. I think them dropping a runner will be good for us the longer the game goes. Our team functions better without a dedicated back up ruck and because we have Joe, we have that ability. McKay can't ruck so it leaves them with one less runner. It used to be late in the game, the big men are still big while the small men are knackered. Now I think the opposite is true and the 'small' men are no longer that small either.

Scared of what though? The only reason the blues beat Melbourne was bcos the dees couldn't kick straight. Same with the Sydney game. They're frauds who got in by luck. And if they beat us it'll be bcos the umps have been directed to give them a leg up.

There's nothing to fear from Carlton. We've got the man power to beat them easily.

Appreciate the words but fear is often irrational.

On the vision I saw, Acres looked very sore. Could barely lift his left arm.

He’s been carrying it for a while though. There were games near the tail end of the year where he’d get a shoulder hit and could barely move it. Think Joe last year where you can play on it but hindered.

Different to Doc who actually dislocated his shoulder during the game and played out the fresh injury.

Heard he may have a small crack in his collar bone

I wouldn’t read too much into todays training form

A bit more about Jarryd Lyons.

payne has been carrying this injury for around half a year at this point. although his form has dropped off slightly, the only real down game in that period was the one against collingwood where everything he touched turned to crap and he was caught out of position multiple times. hes manned forwards as good as hawkins and beat them whilst carrying this injury. curnow is a scary proposition, but i trust payne with andrews floating over to assist to be able to contain him well if the midfield hold up their end of the bargain
