On the plus side (and it is a huge plus), the Adelaide supporter just in front of me was really fat. I mean how does he find his Dick to pee fat, and in the morning when i read the papers and am reminded that we lost, i can console myself with the knowledge that he is still going to be a quivering mass if blubber.

Was it rude to tell him this?

Are they still sponsored by the wide body Camry?

On the up side Luie was terrific, Maloney was good, Zorks was back, Lester was solid and Yeo looks pretty good. We are seriously deficient in the forward line though, and our three r's have all started the year in the back foot.

We were competitive. Ran out of legs in the last quarter against a bigger bodied team coming off of a 15 day break. Shit Happens.

If we don't win next week, Vossy will be under the pump.

ok where can i start... player that need 2 lift... Adcock, rich, redden, McGrath, martin , beams, patfull ..... players that earn there jersey hanely, moloney, merret , raines, rocky , golby , lester, yeo, zorko , leuenberger, green . i rekn lester gets the green light he was awsome 2day he was under size and still gave his all.... ok if polkinhorne can keep geting games i think julia gillard will get a a run.. its a bloody jk his a spectator and i have dought about bewick aswell... 3 things that stand out skill errors and DO NOT WANT 2 MAN UP AND CHASE. To bloody lazy 2 many ov use probably worry about ur pay packet than footy.... im guna throw a name up in the air we need guys like shaun heart around the club ...

This killed us.

BEHIND Pearce Hanley (1.1) 4 17:33 77-83
BEHIND Thomas Rockliff (1.1) 4 15:07 76-83
BEHIND Patrick Karnezis (0.1) 4 14:31 75-83

If Rocky and Hanley's kicks were half a metre one way it would've made a difference.

Or if there was no review system and the ump called Danger's second goal a point.

Goalkicking was woeful for the second week running. I guess it'll happen with how we play a lot of the time, but it's very frustrating.

Lester played a good game but I feel like we would have benefited from including a genuine tall. Where was Patfull?
Rich and Redden need a big game against the GC.
Our forwardline has problems too deep too discuss in a post: Brown; near the end? Martin; able to be our 2nd target? Movement that isn't occasionally scrubbing up a spilled mark?

Leuie's return was positive. Hanley was great. Merrett battled admirably. Golby and Yeo did well. Green and Zorko can be dangerous.

*Positives*

Leuenberger - First and foremost, great to have him back. His leap and athleticism was wonderful to watch. A bit rusty, you'd expect that after a 12 month lay off. Only going to get better.

Hanley - Could he be the best Irishman to play AFL? Well, he certainly did his chances no harm today with a great performance.

Lester - Thought the mismatch on Jenkins early on would have dragged him, but to his credit, dug deep and played well the whole game.

Raines - Now we see why we missed him. Apart from the late goals to Dangerfield, did a good job of applying pressure and being constantly on the man. Needs to stop giving away free kicks though. :p

Moloney - Clearance king. Needs to work on his disposal though, too often he just bombs it.

Now for the ugly part of the post. The 3R's. Yep I'm looking at you boys. It's unfortunate that all of them have hit a lean patch of form lately, but you gotta do better than that. A combined 40 disposals combined isn't good enough if we want them to take the next step.

McGrath, simply not good enough. Sure, he chases, but is that enough to keep his spot in the team? 6 disposals to 3/4 time is horrible. Only time will tell. Merrett had a stinker early, but to his credit, dug in and got the punches later on in the game. Patfull was quiet today, he perhaps had a different role, but was hardly sighted today. Did a couple of nice defensive efforts though.

Martin came in and came out of the game, did a few nice things especially in the ruck, but needs to convert his opportunities much like the rest of the team.

Polkinghorne downed his critics with a pretty good display I thought, went quiet towards the latter part of the game though.

Beams was outstanding, but you can see why he is given the substitute vest now, his fitness isn't up to it to last out 4 quarters. Golby was prominent, but disposal needs a bit of work.

Yeo, I'm afraid, needs a stint in the reserves. I can hear all the cries "But Rubix, he's got agility and got a fair bit of the ball."
Yup, but his composure and kicking under pressure has been lackluster so far in the season, and a chance has to be given to Docherty soon.

Zorko was great, popping up everywhere, providing shepperds for teammates, and generally doing all the team things very well. Hard at it, good tackler and a real sense of energy. Bewick disappeared for much of the game, but turned up for the very nice snap. Needs to improve his goal kicking though from set shots. Green was excellent, needs to have an impact on the contests more though, but he kicked crucial goals when it was needed, and was just like a bubbly puppy dog who wanted the ball. Great to see.

Now who did I miss? Ah yes, the great Brown. If only he had kicked the goal that he's so good at kicking, from the pockets. I'm not going to make a comment on him, but I can only say one thing. Form is temporary, class is permanent. Karnezis didn't see much of him, but laid a few nice tackles late, surprised to see him with the sub vest after last week, but hey, you just never know.

All in all, my biggest disappointment about today's game is the fact that;
1. We still can't kick straight for goals.
2. We seem to have the mentality to be second to the ball.
3. Inability to point out targets and instead bomb away.
4. Last quarter fadeouts.

While it wasn't just a fadeout, we could hardly get it over the centre square to our advantage. And also, I'm both disappointed and confused at the reactions of some of the posters here. While a loss is never good, it was a scrappy contest, and any team who won would have been happy. We have to remember that Adelaide are coming off a 15 day break, compared to a 7 day break for our mob. Not saying it's an excuse, but it has a factor in preparation, training and energy. Our inaccuracy cost us in the end, and calls for Vossy's head are rubbish. He has taken the team so far, and development of the players on this list are purely Vossy's decisions. However, if we lose the Suns game, there will be a few question marks raised on both Vossy's future, and the Lions future after such a promising pre-season.

Better effort compared to Round 1, unlucky not to get the points, but the boys will learn from it. Go Lions!!

While Polks's possessions were largely ineffectual, he did put in for the whole match.

Ash, on the other hand, does not deserve a spot in the seniors any more.

I'd like to switch him down back before dropping him. Far more consistent as a defender. Also extra run and long kicking.

it's the fact that we keep playing the same way that really hurts. Obviously the NAB Cup was a false dawn. Again goals from stoppages and kick ins we got smashed. But we won the "goals from turnovers"

Same thing we have been doing for years. Goals from turnovers will keep you in a game but when your midfield is getting smashed invariably you won't be winning.

Bombing it long hasn't worked in years and won't work. Martin can't take a contested mark and Brown can't jump more than about 4cm off the ground and can barely draw even in a battle of strength at the moment.

Where was McGrath on the lead? Where was Bewick on the lead?
Not to mention the shanks from 50. Zorko, Golby, Hanley, etc. Rich and Redden or someone really needs to step it up in the middle.

Long year.

Our gameplan is to turn the ball over at half back and rebound which we do well but it doesn't make up for our deficiencies in other areas especially clearances.

Missed very gettable shots and i felt like we were stung every time by the video review.

I will probably feel very different when I see the replay.

Adelaide set up there defence very well and we just couldn't get a switch of play or any space in the forward line. And we lacked the composure to keep the ball and wait for a better option.

Hanley was almost a one man band, how many possessions did he get?

I thought Lester was one of our best and Leuey was very good too.

Polky was much better this week, but McGrath should have been taken off much earlier.

I'm disappointed we lost but I think we are far from hopeless.

A little worried we could lose three club legends in one year. Not trying to be dramatic. Blacky will retire, Browny might be a year closer then originally thought and well, yes it's only round two, so won't think about the worst case with Vossy.

While Polks's possessions were largely ineffectual, he did put in for the whole match.

Ash, on the other hand, does not deserve a spot in the seniors any more.
Looks to have fallen away.Surprised me a bit, only 2 rounds in but signs aren't good.

I still like McGrath, especially up forward (to be honest he's not needed in defense anymore in my eyes, compared to other options) but he needs a week off to get his head right. Hasn't looked like the dangerous medium forward he usually is. Did he lead at all?

Also Hanley was brilliant, was in everything. Even got a hit-out :p

Damn depressing start to the season. Smashed in the midfield, woeful kicking for goal.

Plusses for mine were Leuy's return, hopefully over the new few weeks can get some good chemistry going with the mids.

Moloney has been a great pickup, filled in Black's role really well.

Hanley had a awesome game, really looking forward to see him running all over the ground this year.

Better not lose to GC next week...

Rich getting tagged out fo the game far too easy imo. Voss should play him off the HBF for stints to lose the tag but of course he doesn't. Voss just sits in his coaches box laughing his arse off. Redden has played crap since Moloney has came in, just doesn't know his role anymore by the looks of it. Rockliff gets possessions but does not pick up his opponent when they have the ball. Brown has to be dropped for next week with McKeever or Paps in instead, they would at least make more contests and force the midfielders to be more accountable for their kicks inside 50. Defence is strong although Yeo butchers every possession he gets. Karnezis should have been on at half time for Ash, he would have allowed an extra midfield rotation and better disposal efficiency. But most importantly Voss has to do something when certain match ups are not working. Lester played well but one on one with Jenkins was flogged while giving away experience and about 12 cm. Patful should have been on him ffs who is elite in body positioning.

We actually had 1 more scoring shot from less inside 50s. Shows our forward line wasn't too bad just inaccurate.
