No matter how much crap the commentators go on about, he pinned both arms so he gets a minimum of 1 week. But given the stretcher, it is going to be a Cam McCarthy type penalty.

And to answer the question of these morons: you dont pin both arms in the tackle. Its illegal. And the umpires should learn the bloody rule and enforce it.

Treloar got a free kick for a dangerous tackle when there was no sling and only 1 arm got pinned. So how does Grundy get a free kick despite pinning 2 arms.

Im.sure you will strongly call for suspensions when Sicily or Hodge do same

What did 3 umpires see? One explains he didn't see it. The other two? Just two (big) players together. Spineless commentary and a poor decision. If commentators are going to be honest about the game and do the right thing by young viewers especially, then comment on today's game, not the game they used to play.

It's really pretty simple. If you tackle someone and pin their arms you have a duty of care to them. If you ram their head into the ground you have failed that duty of care and wear the consequences.

Apparently everyone but the players, coaches, umpires and commentators are aware of this rule...

Its actually possible for a player to have his head hit the ground and it not be the fault of the tackler. If you hadnt pinned the arms and the player is hanging on to the ball rather than protecting themselves - similar to GAJ last year when he had 2 free hands but was hanging on to the ball and his shoulder crashed in to the ground.

He could have protected himself but didnt.

umpire said to Ziebel that he didnt think it was a dangerous tackle.
I am sure the MRP will have a different opinion

The only thing helping Grundy is that the way Brown was taken to ground, was still in the first motion of the tackle, not a secondary sling. It won't help anyway though.

Edit: There's such a fine line between what it is considered a dangerous tackle. The secondary (forceful) sling to the ground is what they're trying to eliminate, but with Danger getting suspended last week, that idea is out the window.

Good comment by Richo: What's the player supposed to do? The players are going to have to learn to change their tackling. Yes Richo. State the bleeding obvious. That's what professional footballers have always had to do as rules (and tactics) change. Much like driving a car Richo. We have to learn to change many things in life when rules change.

The free kick count was hugely in Collingwood's favour. Im sure the umpires would all agree they had been having a good night paying free kicks.

Yes, it would be very hard for professional footballers to learn how to play the game by the rules... especially when it was a rule which was introduced at their request. The AFLPA has been pushing very hard for more protection. As Riewoldt said on 360 on Tuesday night, you have to protect the players first.

So you will demand suspensions for hawthorn players for similar acts?

Nice strawman. How about discussing actual events rather than made up events. If Im going to make something up it will probably involve a supermodel, not a Hawthorn player.

No just intetested if pious hawthorn fans accusing others demand same of own team. Would have thought a pretty easy question

Still crying that Danger got done are we
Its got nothing to do with Hawthorn at the moment so stop trying to score cheap points.
This is a broader problem the AFL have created for themselves......
We may not like it but the AFL is the common enemy here

It's BigFooty. Tribalism kicks in.

Geelong supporters think suspending Dangerfield was a travesty. Collingwood supporters will take the same approach with Grundy if he is suspended. And so on.

Objectivity isn't big around these parts.

I think that answers your question.
