It's not his professionalism that's the issue. It's his style. No doubt he's knowledgeable and prepares well. It's the barracking and sensationalism.

I think what people are after is a good straight man. A good quality play by play caller and then some reasonable expert colour commentary from his colleagues.

It's not like their weren't superstars in the past. I mean Bruce used to worship Carey back in the 90's and early 2000's when he was considered a great commentator, but he didn't go to the extremes that he does these days. Are all these players Bruce loves now better than Carey back in the day? I would say no.

My favourite tv commentators were Peter Landy, Jason Dunstall, Drew Morpheus and Sandy..late 90s to early 00s..they were good, professional football callers...

Bruce can be hit and miss..

Now we have mostly special comments people as the main commentary..

Dunstall is still good today, and Sandy is still decent (despite getting player names wrong from time to time).

An example of how utterly ridiculous Bruce has become came with 50 secs to go in the game.

Swans were desperate to get a kick forward with a loose ball on the wing..Rioli has a moment where he's trying to pick up the ball in a pack..Bruce says in rapid fire delivery something like " There's Cyril fighting for the ball..he's kicked 18.2 from set shots this year ".

He just kicked his 55 mtr goal a minute before. But to quickly add his year set shot tally in the middle of last minute play is just pathetic.

just heard the radio call of the last minute or so from last night.........WHY DO ALL COMMENTATORS HAVE TO YELL TO SOUND EXCITED.
I can understand the radio guys a bit but the TV guys.....I CAN SEE ITS AN EXCITING GAME I HAVE THE TV ON YOU DONT HAVE TO YELLLLLL....WOW WEE.....AM I EXCITED AND I AM TELLING YOU IN A REALLY LOUD VOICE THIS IS AN EXCITING GAME.
