Buckley the Greatest says Malthouse

Bucks was possibly the most consistent champion player of the past 35 years, but he was not the matchwinner Matthews, Ablett, Carey, Lockett, Dunstall, Hird or Voss. Not even close to the first 3.
And footy is about winning matches.
Don't you think the above players were consistant?

Collingwood have had some of the Greatest Players who have played the Game, most were the Greatest players of there Era, Bucks wasn't even that. A great player yes, greatest No.

Obviously you are not a good judge of these things...why even comment...???

Heard the press conference........wanted to stick my fingers down my throat and be sick!!.....according to Mick and Mr. Ed, he was God, Jesus, the Pope, Nelson Mandela, Mother Theresa all rolled into one........wasn't anywhere near the players such as Voss, Harvey, Hird and others IMO..

3-vote games in the Brownlow, 1985-2007:

44 R.Harvey
34 Buckley
33 G.Williams
30 West
29 Matera, Platten
28 McLeod
27 Carey, Crawford, Dunstall, Loewe
26 Bradley, Cousins, Ricciuto, Voss
24 Black, Knights, Lockett
23 Grant, Hocking, Schwass, Wanganeen
22 B.Harvey, Liberatore, Stynes
21 Richardson
20 J.Madden, P.Williams
19 Ablett snr, Akermanis, Hird, Salmon
18 Burke, D.Jarman, Judd, Roos

Not the be-all and end-all, but gives some indication of the number of standout/matchwinning performances.

Has anyone thought that Malthouse wasn't only putting on field performance into the criteria? Maybe he was also putting in determination, leadership etc. Buckley is one of the greats of the modern era, IMO consistency is the best thing you can get from a player and Buckley gave that.

clearly robert harvey is the best plater ever to have played the game
Would seem to be the case!!.....And should get more recognision than he does....he's too quiet for his own good, is Robert......doesn't push his own barrow like some do!!......a champion player and all round good bloke is Robert Harvey....:thumbsu:

Hird was clearly better than Buckley, even non-Essendon supporters agree.

Yes I agree as well.

Buckley has been a great player however is a notch below the likes of Carey, Lockett, Ablett, Williams, Hird and probably 2 notches below Judd.

Buckley was the greatest player of his era not just because he was a fantastically talented football player.....
It was because he played for Collingwood...

All the others played for other sides so obviously they were in some way deficient either mentally or judgementally.

LOL last word....hahahahahahah

OR

Which is better?
Chocolate pudding with Cream or Cream and Chocolate Pudding?

Do you like apples better or Oranges?

Which is the best club to support in the AFL?

Who has nicer ****? Victoria Principal or Ursula Andress?

If Mick Malthouse thinks Buckley is the best he has ever seen "closeup" then I think he thinks he is right.

What you all think is really irrelevant.

I would like to think Mick is in a good position to Judge. Closeup that is.
