Re: Bulldogs in a little trouble

With respect, thats bullshit. Unless you're an Aussie bogan or one of their Brit counterparts. Sure, getting pissed isn't unusual but jumping on cars and opening peoples doors and preventing them driving down the street etc is hardly an everyday occurence amongst the local or expat community ....

All that took to escalate was one of the cab drivers decided to take exception to 90kg blokes jumping on his cab and it could have gotten ugly ...

It wasn't a big deal, but I remain surprised at the number of people on here who reckon this is standard or normal behaviour for blokes in their 20's on holiday... probably explains much of phuket & kuta ....

Showed the video to a bunch of work colleagues - Asian but mainly Western

Comment was

The Aussie guys would give the guys a big thumbs up - And they didn't need to read BF.

Re: Bulldogs in a little trouble

Wow media knows how to beat up a story.

Media getting a bit over the top with this whole hunting down an AFL scandal at every opportunity.

Are they that desperate for news that they have to stalk every move an AFL player makes?

A revolution is happening in Egypt, and all our journos want to write about is AFL players getting drunk in Hong Kong.

I didn't see anything wrong in the Youtube clip. Did the WB players harm anyone? No. Did they harm themselves? No.

I understand the severity of issues involving women and drugs, and crime in general, and they need to be taken seriously.

But taking pot shots at players for having some innocent fun is invasive and pathetic.

Poor form by the media.

This is pure village mentality.

And I am not referring to footballers - I am referring to human beings.

Since when is it acceptable to jump up and down on a taxi/private vehicle.

Innocent fun is when you dont disturb anyone - In other words, drink at home if you may misbehave.

The footballers are travelling in a foreign country - where different norms, culture, laws apply.

Not sure that our parents brought us up to exhibit such behaviour.

And this is in the context of a drunken Aussie killing a taxi driver IN HK - only 17 months earlier.

Re: Bulldogs in a little trouble

ive worked in hong kong for 3 years and ive partied long and hard down at LKF, and its the first time ive seen someone jumped on a taxi doing a worm or sliding down the hill on a piece of plastic, so yes its not normal behavior for people in their mid 20s (more teenager behavior or something out of jackass) but they didnt get a gun and shoot anybody or got arrested by the police so ako with me. having said that the taxi drivers and the locals are probably saying typical gewilo behavior and wouldnt have left an endearing image about gewilos in general. (just a general nusiance in all sense and purposes)

There is a running joke in HK about LKF.

That drunk people roll down the hill at LKF.;)

Re: Bulldogs in a little trouble

honestly, that happens when you have an area full of pubs catering for tourist and expats. then again, having spent alot of time there, 99% of the time people are actually well behaved, the 1% is on you tube.

You have to agree that Mr Lan kwai Fong - Allan Zeman - Has done a great marketing job - as well as lining his pockets.

Cant understand why the players weren't at Dragon Eye - Somehow the WC players on their end of season trip in 2008 gained admittance.

And I suggest that the WC players behaviour was more extreme than the Bulldogs.

Actually LKF attracts about 50% local and 50% expats.

Re: Bulldogs in a little trouble

The amount of people in this thread thinking it was funny, epic, boys will be boys, etc. is a fair indication of the overriding bogan mentality present in Australia. Couldn't be happier to have left, all I need to do now is avoid part of one street for a few hours a week. And these aren't even bogans/redknecks, just college kids acting immaturely. In Perth I was forever surrounded by some form of bogan assaulting my senses.

It seems to have become worse as well, maybe because the bogan reproduces at a faster rate than other people. Giving bogans lots of cash is also a recipe for disaster, whether it be through football or labouring jobs on mines or trades or whatever.

It is sad to see societies standards drop so much. Poor behavour is just that, not acceptable, no matter who you are.

Re: Bulldogs in a little trouble

They were with a girl their own age given they met her in a nightclub

Yeah that's right you do remember this part of the story or do you have selective memory??

You know the part of the story whereby

1. She lied about her age to gain entry into the nightclub
2. Lied about her age when she targeted them ..... oops sorry met them
3. Lied about her current status / profession (AIS employee according to her)

Remembering also that this girl/young woman had the physical mature appearance of a 20+ year old and was extremely determined to get what she wanted ... that being a piece of AFL arse or 3 to 5 pieces of AFL arse if some stories are to be believed

so really the question needs to be asked

Do you have selective memory???

After taking in all of the facts in the case I think you will find that it was the footballers who were the playthings

She orchestrated the initial meeting, the lies, the nude photo scandal, manipulated the media and sucked you in and most of Australia to actually feel sorry for her even after her own parents had given up on her!!

You should concentrate your pity elsewhere - they are people more deserving

Ahhh so thats why they went from suing her arse for the next 150 years to paying her off.......i see your logic.

And as for being the same age when is 23 the same as 16, or 17 or even 19?

For that matter when is 23 the same a being a schoolgirl?

Or do you deny that she was 16 or 17 at the time or a schoolgirl?

Or maybe sammy boy wasnt really 23?

Re: Bulldogs in a little trouble

Nothing illegal, but some extremely immature behaviour - very disappointing.

I expect better from my club and I hope Smorgon and co give them a bollocking and don't go soft.

We don't need this ****.

To you, sosos, I seem to remember something about a party boat and an incident in a casino. Refresh my memory?

nothing illegal? so drinking in the streets, being a public nuisence, jaywalking or attempted hijacking arent laws in hong kong???

which is a high proportion given the place is full of hongkongers. you know towards the end i was abit over that place, and places like Lamma just TOO many tourists and expats. if i ever work there again i would like to live on the south side of Lantau island and catch a ferry to central. u been there long how do u find the place?

Re: Bulldogs in a little trouble

The other bystanders seemed to be enjoying the show

a friend of mind knows cantonese said that you could hear the locals saying (in the video) that the behaviour was immature or someone with a low IQ, and that they were annoying and makes you want to hate them.

However, the expat crowd loved it:)

a case of different cultures....

Jaywalking:p

Attempted hijacking:eek:

Drinking in the street.

You Saints fans are seriously getting desperate to deflect the attention to someone else.

Jaywalking :D:D:D I'm still LOL.

You would think that being the most pathetic under performing team of the last 25 years would give you just a touch of humility but not so. Must hate seeing a disorganised, undisciplined rabble like St Kilda beat you the last 13 times they have played.

Now we have to cop the barbs from Collingwood supporters. As premiers they can pretty much say what they want. Same with Hawthorn, Geelong, Brisbane, West Coast, Essendon, Swans and the other high performing clubs of the last 10 –15 years. But from Richmond supporters and their 2 finals appearances since 1982….. Give me spell.

Re: Bulldogs in a little trouble

The people who reckon it's hilarious and just a bit of fun would probably want to punch on if it was their car being jumped all over.

Re: Bulldogs in a little trouble

Tourists vs Locals is a problem in any party destination. Even in parts of Australia - cf. Schoolies Week. And Aussies aren't the only ones to behave badly abroad. Even the boring Belgians are at it.

Re: Bulldogs in a little trouble

It is legal to drink on the streets of Hong Kong, nothing better than buying $1.50 Heinekien from a 7/11 on the way home.

brings back memories, in bangkok you can have a cigie and a drink outside 7/11.

i remember going to a buffet in hong kong and it was all u can drink and all you can eat (local joint). my brother and sister in law were visiting and we were drinking so much at the place the waiters just gave us a slab after a while. no we couldnt take any home and we were on our best behavior afterwards.

Re: Bulldogs in a little trouble

Second biggest beat up of the year so far (just behind Roo telling that insensitive b$^%h to eff off day after the GF).

Footballers have suddenly become everyone's favourite target. Maybe worth a slap over the wrist but not a front page spread.

Re: Bulldogs in a little trouble

It's not quite a beat up- probably a just little over zealous. Taking a journo's (which I am, coincidentally) perspective:

We were all instructed to look at these elements of news

impact,
conflict,
timeliness,
proximity,
prominence,
currency,
Human interest,
novelty

This story encapsulates:
prominence- i.e the people in the video are prominent members of Australia's sporting industy.

Currency- with footballers behaving badly being an issue lately, this video fits in with that news value.

Timeliness- as above, this video is coinciding with a wider problem within the ranks of the AFL teams, St Kilda in particular. It is also come to light with the season just around the corner.

Novelty- showing footballers doing something most of us will never see them do.

Human interest- plenty of AFL fans will see this video and have an interest in it.

So as you see- it is actually a news worthy item that a journalist would cover and a newspaper/news corporation will more often than now give airtime.
