C Judd - Carlton - Who won the trade now??

All Carlton won last night is having to pay Judd more when his contract runs out.

Given he still has 3 years to run on his current contract, that will not be an issue, particularly given his contract was significantly front-ended. When Judd comes out of contract he will be 30 years old. I suspect he won't be seeking as much remuneration next time around.

Carlton Football Club haven't won anything since he arrived, so irrespective of West Coast's position it would be a long bow to draw which suggests they won.

Nil all draw.

Collingwood did not win a flag while Buckley played there...so i suppose it was a useless trade.!!

Nil all draw with the Lions and Buckley was a nothing player.

Right?

Mate i dont care who won but id say there would be a few past players mighty pissed that a guy can get reported and still be able to win the brownlow

I predict Carlton will finish in the top 4 over the next few years, maybe even as early as next year with Henderson coming on.

If they can get into a Grand final they win.

Meanwhile if Kennedy can kick 500 odd career goals and play some finals I think West Coast would be the winner.

What a load. Collingwood fans had us believe Swan had played the perfect season and was incredibly dominant. Carlton made the finals and was one kick away from very possibly making the prelim.

Unless they were going to beat the Dogs by hand balling 80 rushed behinds they were about 250 kicks away from a prelim.

Chris Judd winning an individual award doesn't really reflect a success for Carlton as much as it does for Chris Judd. The fact that Kade Simpson was your next highest votegetter with 9 speaks volumes of the real state of the Carlton list, especially in light of having Marc Murphy (5), Bryce Gibbs (6) and even Kreuzer (1) as No.1 picks.

Exactly.Carlton may have won the trade, but Judd being recognized for his brilliant individual efforts, mean that most of the Carlton players are ordinary.

As far as I'm concerned, Judd can be another Bob Skilton and win many Brownlows, but Carlton will not win a premiership anytime soon, if he has to carry the team in most games.

I find these threads pretty pointless.

1. Fair trade: Fact is, pick 3, Kennedy and pick 18 was a very fair deal. How WCE use these picks is another matter. But the trade is fair.

2. Josh Kennedy will be a good player for another 8 years. This will include 4 years or so where he is playing (in a good WCE side that has been rebuilt) and Judd has retired. So it's still too early to assess, even if you want to make these assessments.

3. Making any assessment on the basis of Brownlow wins is ridiculous. Players play for premierships. Judd made the point. Carlton has a great group of youngsters and in two years will be seriously challenging for a flag.

4. If you still want to make an assessment, base it on whether Judd helps the Blues to a flag in the next 2-3 years (I think he will). If you want to make a proper assessment, wait until Kennedy has retired and see whether he has helped WCE to a flag. (Masten too).

Enough of these stupid, self-congratulatory threads.

Well actually on the 'premiership' logic, Collingwood got r*ped in that trade, because what they traded for Buckley (Pick 12) turned out to be Chris Scott who was a multiple Premiership player.

Let's revisit this in 5 years. A brownlow is hardly the deciding factor, what if the Eagles win a premiership before Carlton? It looks unlikely but who can really say?

Exactly.

Judd himself stated that if he didn't win a flag at Carlton the move would have been a failure in his eyes.

Carlton gave up allot to get him, if it doesn't win you a flag then what was the point?

If the Eagles win a flag before the Blues with this young crop of players due to the Judd / Cuz rebuild then they won the trade.

We simply won't know untill Judd retires in 4-5 years.

Same as day one, Chris Judd.

Made Carlton pay too much(as in contract)

Bit the hand that fed him at WC.

He always has and always will look out for one person, himself.

P.s is it just me or does his missus look like the doll from 'Lars and the real girl'?

If they could come first or second one year that would probably win them the trade in my eyes.

If they just make the prelims and bow out it would be a waste.

I dont see how carlton making the gf or minor primiership with judd is equal to judd doing the same thing with W.C and winning a flag..

Judd winning a flag would be a win for carlton and judd

The real gain from getting Judd is not the Brownlow win or his output on the field. Its the professionalism, work ethic and leadership he's brought to impart on a young group. When they picked him up they must have realised that their young talent needed a strong leader to learn from. The Blues had something of a true leadership vaccum when they picked him up which is why he has been worth every penny and the cost to get him. Even if Kennedy and Masten become superstars, the Blues still had a win with this trade.

And thats not even looking at the impact he's had on the club as a whole. He's brought some onfield credibility and star power that fans love and draws sponsors. Well done Blues. I think the only problem with this trade was that the two compromised drafts probably prevents them adding enough to the list to become a genuine contender before Judd bows out.

Great Post :thumbsu: good luck Saturday.

Carlton will always win, WCE lost a champion...but it's not like they had a choice.

Masten was a bad #3 pick, Notte obviously failed too. Kennedy is good but how good remains to be seen. Their collective value will never equal Judds.

Oh well.

Still undecided.

One of the teams has to actually be competitive for the trade to have benefited either side.

To have such an obviously dominant player, and such a mediocre season would be a really worry for the Carlton folk. If Judd is even 10% down on this year's input... where will they end up?

This! Winning the Brownlow doesnt make Carlton any better do they get back in to the finals ? No. It just means Umps love Judd more than other players.

Getting Brownlow votes isnt going to bring back all those kicks he had that missed the target and lost games.

It all depends how you define success.

Individually at the moment he is light years ahead of what West Coast got & probably will stay that way.

As a team I am undecided. Kennedy & Masten have 10 years to run yet. Judd maybe 3-5. Judd has actually prevented Carlton building up the depth they desperately needed and that is the reason they cannot yet be serious flag contenders and perhaps will mean they never will be. He uses up a large % of the cap so the club has to compromise their list at some point. Without Judd they may have been able to seriously rebuild their list and aim high rather than mediocre with a star.

I think Fev & a pick for Judd as a trade would have been an unqualified success as it was swapping older players paid big dollars and we all know how Fev went. Kennedy could have been kept & solved all KPP problems they have now. Hindsight is a wonderful thing though.

We failed miserably in the 07 draft. So as a direct result of the Judd trade, we lost by a large margin.

The fall-out from Judd leaving (and Cousins) and the subsequent breakup of our team though led to us being in a great position in the '08 draft. Naitanui should come on in leaps and bounds next year, and if Shuey stays on the park in 22 matches then look out.

That said, horrible cockup - but '07 was a pretty crud draft.
