In other ground related news its good news for the graffiti can reprabates that frequent beaumaris after hours, with a new larger scoreboard unveiled by the sharks this week, the new board covers the old heritage listed one and the much larger area makes it a prime target for 'dropping bombs'. But vandals be warned the stats van is positioned directly opposite so make sure the tags are up to standard or else you'll cop the rath of the statisticians

Ruppo finished there pre-season with a narrow (10Pt) win over Lake Wendouree at Ballarat today. That is 3 pretty solid hit outs and to be honest a pleasant surprise on our pre-season form. We will line up this year very different again from 2009, at the end of the day around 20-21 players playing next week will all have played there junior footy through the Rupppo program, we find it difficult to recruit so we again will rely on our youth combined with a incredibly talented group of young men who have helped us be where we are today. I have no predictions with us because i am very cautious how good some teams can be in "C" Grade, what i can be confident of is a serious crack by Ruppo in 2010. We might struggle in the reserves with the exodus of players to Sunbury Kangaroos.

Good to hear kbrown. The Lakers are a reasonable side and should be mid table in the Ballarat League. We will be very competitive at Rupo this year.

Solid hit-out at Central Reserve for Mazenod and Fitzroy with the home side establishing a 2-3 goal margin in the first half which they held for most of the game, before they pulled away in the last 10 minutes of the game to win by 5 goals. Think it was 13.9 to 8.11 in the end.

The Nodders are a mix of the old and the new for sure, with most of their tall timber being young lads, and the core of their onballers being the veterans in Parry, Chamberlin x 2, etc.

We were without our 3 first choice KPP forwards, which made scoring a bit difficult, but there's no doubt during the season such player shortages will inevitably occur so it was good to have to set-up with reinforcements.

Still, no injuries for us, and only one (nasty) hammy for the Nodders. Both sides would be happy with the tune up and look forward to the real thing next Saturday.

Lost by about 3 goals to what looked like a nearly full stength Caufield, we were probably missing about 6 or 7. A good hit out for both teams in very ordinary conditions. The new Coach is going very well and is just a tad quieter than the previous one.

To get within 3 goals if Caulfield was nearly at full strength and going flat tack is heartening as they are generally considered the team to beat. I believe the coach saw some good signs against Echuca as well even though the final score wasn't flattering. Big test against the Jackas though who are apparently up and about.

OLD GEELONG v Fitzroy
Ajax v ORMOND
Parkdale v RUPO

Greetings all - the Great one here to empart some wisdom on you all. Thought I would get in early for round 1 so my insights can influence you all. It would be unfair to do it any other way given my superior knowledge/wisodom etc etc

Sharks v Nodders - Sharks easily, will play finals
Oggers v Reds - we will absolutely flog the cats
Ajax v Ormond - could this be the year that the Jackers fulfill that potential - they will this week, 5 goal win
Parkdale v Rupo - parky will be average - Rupo in a caner
Caulfield v Camberwell - wellers in a tight one, Caulfield not as good as predicted is my mail

No need to thank me

The Roy

Ormond were very competitive and it was solid contest for both sides. The conditions made it diificult to make too many predictions. I wouldn't say that was Caulfield's best 22 either. Saying that they are not flying, but it was an improved performance on the previous practice game.

I think we all can't wait to Sat afternoon to learn a little bit more our own teams and others!

BTW I believe Oaten was a good choice for Ormond! Word I hear is he is a great bloke/coach!

Interesting as i heard it was more like 6-7 goals and Caulfield had 3-4 missing including skipper and last years B&F winner, sorry not sure of his name.

Watched nearly 3 qtrs and both looked like strong sides, especially if Ormond was missing 6-7 players.

Tips Rd 1
Beaumaris v Mazenod - Close but going with home side.
Old Geelong v Fitzroy - Dont know much about them, but Old Geelong would want to improve after last year.
Ajax v Ormond - Should be good clash, word is Ajax have gained some personnel back this year though and is a side to look out for.
Parkdale v Rupo - Again dont know much about them, but word is Parkdale struggling. Long drive home if Rupo lose....
Caulfield v Old Camberwell - Based on last year and the return of Sinclair you would think the side to beat

Does anyone remember what Parkdale did to us Round 1 2008 at Parkdale. I would suggest they would love being the underdog, a very tough and uncompromising club. Later in the year they hardly gave a wimper (played a much younger team) in the return match which was a great surprise. We will be a vastly different side from that day so hopefully we are not haunted, i still am, watching Boland and Rochford kick 9 each remains one of the most powerful team performances i have seen against Rupppo, i still am at a loss how they ended up losing more than they won in 2008. Bring on Saturday i am sure we are all pumped. Ruppo's pre-season has been solid and we would go into the season confident, however Parkdale at Parkdale Round 1 is a big test IMO. Good luck to all.

Some great match ups here. Should have a better form line come Round 2 but here's selections and how I think the sides will fare for season.

Sharks to beat Nodders....crackerjack - both are definite finals contenders
OG just over the Roys....think these 2 may struggle to stay up.
Jackers over Ormond....always hard to know what Ajax will do, should be a finals contender, I expect Ormond to consolidate in mid table.
Rupo comfortably at Parkdale....Vultures to struggle by all accounts, Rupo to push for finals but lack depth.
Caulfield to steamroll the Wells....Flag favourites Caulfield, I think Camberwell are headed for the bottom half.

Fair bet I'm way off the mark here. Have a good season all!

Beaumaris by 4 goals
Fitzroy by 2 goals
AJAX in a tight one
Rupertswood just (tough trip down to the Vultures)
Caulfield easily

why are we all talking down pardale ?? dave matthews and the vultures will be pumped getting little respect

I can asssure you that no one at Rupo is talking down Parkdale. As King Brown said we still carry the scars of opening round 2008 to prove it! Even the previous year when we were a kick from B Grade, Parkdale snatched defeat from the jaws of victory with a errant kick after the siren. We are expecting one hell of a battle.

C'mon Dent, player turnover in the VAFA is pretty high from season to season. Roughly how many players from the 2007 version of Rupo which should've made the GF are likely to be suiting up at Parkdale on Saturday?

My totally uneducated guess would be between 6 - 8.
