Has another year on his contract, so unless they are prepared to pay him out -- He has another year, which he'll need to prove himself, otherwise he could be in trouble.

It will be interesting to see who stays and goes.

Mayne seems to have found a new lease on life. For minimum fish and chips, I would keep him….

I would be happy to trade to get a key forward / free up cap space -

Sidebottom, Grundy, Crisp, Noble, Cox, WHE.

What about Mihocek, Crisp and WHE for Ben King? Three super citizens and experienced players to help a club develop.

Mayne is in career best form. I think he'll finish pretty high in our BnF and I think we'll re-sign him for another year.
As much as I hate his play style it’s hard to see a new coach coming in and getting rid of him with the way he’s playing.

I too have been very critical of Cal Brown’s repeated selection and his mediocre output but he really played well today. Hopefully it’s a sign of things to come. Well played, Cal.

See what happens when you play people in the positions they were drafted for?
It's a catch 22 though. If we had have decided he's a mid only and waited until he was ready to play AFL mid, he'd probably only being playing his 5th game and wouldn't be ready to play AFL mid.

I agree and have said all along that he is not being developed properly, however, his decision making and disposal under pressure and when not under pressure is terrible, not many of his possessions today were effective. Nothing worse than an accumulator who doesn't hurt the opposition

Or we could have played him there for the last couple of years. Sidey shouldn't be in there anymore and Adams has missed plenty of games where Cal could have been in there. Reef and Sier looked good too in the two's

Watch it again manic....he hit Checkers lace out in the first only for it to be dropped and then set up several other forward forays. He kicked quite well today.

The only way forward for him is if we play him in the midfield for the rest of the year, let;s see what he's got, maybe a long stretch in the midfield will give him the confidence to make better decisions with the ball in hand, but he did do a few nice things today

Wheel’s turning for him now! He’s got six weeks to make a decent fist of rolling through the midfield so hopefully the coaching group persist and Brown continues to trend forward. It’s a pleasant surprise and one that could really add another dimension to the best 22, pace.

24 disposals & 6 inside 50’s in 65% game time.

Kicked well when he didn’t overthink & over kick.

2/3 of his disposals were handballs, so that 65% D/E is very low considering most of the time it's short handballs.

He looks okay as a midfielder, but can you use up one of your prime full time midfield slots on a guy whose just okay? If we could then Josh Thomas would be in there.

Amazing what happens when you play a player in his natural position. Grew up as an inside mid and we decide to play him as a small forward. THought he was in our 10 best today and that was even with not as much gametime

The 65% was his time on ground not his disposal efficiency which was mid 80’s

I had written him off given his mediocre output and loss of confidence in the forwardline. So the promise that he's showing in the midfield is a a great bonus. We really need players like him in the 23 year age group to step up. And as Scodog said, the breakaway pace provides us with something different that's currently completely reliant on Crisp since we lost Treloar.
