Agree, but if the tables were turned, I wouldn't begrudge Richmond sending a player to the PSD without a favorable deal.
Despite what many of my fellow supporters think, the psd is there to help the bottom clubs get us contracted players without giving up anything in return.
Wouldn’t have begrudged north for doing it at all.
it is what it’s there for after all.

I think CJ will be good for North and North good for CJ. He has potential to be a good forward for many years to come. He was never going to go past Soldo and Nank who are both in their mid 20's, and he would not work well alongside Lynch when Jack retires in 2/3 years. Waiting another 2+ years, hoping for a chance and then not even being guaranteed a spot if a younger forward such as Sampson Ryan leap frogs you, is too much to ask. North needs a forward now and can offer him a chance to finally play.

I think its the best thing for CJ and North. I wish him all the best...just keep him away from late night kebab shops.

I can appreciate North having the upper hand with the PSD and even the fact Richmond would want to try and protect potential Chol compo but there’s no way the club would do a straight swap of CCJ for Tarrant.

Why not? You get a guy that you're actively scoping out who slots directly into your team for someone who simply won't feature if you have most of your talls available to you.

As you rightly point out, Richmond have literally no leverage here.

No leverage? Tarrant is a free agent - North have no leverage. He can go where-ever he wishes to go. Richmond have a choice if they pursue Tarrant though, risk the compensation we'll gain for Chol or leave him. I think they'll leave him and just use the pick. I don't think a player nearing the end of his career might play on for another 2 years is worth it. Geelong might like him though.....

Swap CCJ for Tarrant and Richmond get to keep their Chol Compo.
Works best for both parties, otherwise we just walk CCJ to the PSD.

Guess it comes down to what the Compo is for Chol.

There’s also the exact same counter argument that North have a limited leverage over Tarrant because he’s a free agent. If North hold off for the PSD, there’s still the chance another club could try to turn his head during the trade period and work out a deal with us. I’ll openly acknowledge that North are in a better position with the PSD, but I wouldn’t go as far as saying Richmond have “literally no leverage”.

I personally think a trade will be worked out, if you look at Richmond’s trade history over the last few years. We like to work with the clubs we’re trading with, there’s no Dodoro here. I also know we’ve recently seen Hately and Jack Martin go through the PSD but traditionally clubs like the security of securing a player and knowing they have the player. If you go back through the players selected at pick one in the PSD it’s not that commonly used to get a player who’s ran down their contract and couldn’t have a trade agreed to.

I don’t think the Tigers will have much interest in an outright draft pick, I think we’ll either want a future pick or to upgrade an existing pick(s). I feel both clubs draft hands will allow the clubs to work out a deal, assuming CCJ nominates the Roos.

Except that North would prefer Tarrant to leave as a free agent, it is Richmond who will want to trade.

Oh I don't mind re Tazza. He can go where he pleases and I wish him all the best. Love him. Hope he can nab a flag elsewhere.

The leverage Richmond have re CCJ is nonexistant.
Talia makes much more sense but expect it is pick 38 not 20 you will get.

This.

Taz is undoubtedly a better field kick to Talia.

Looks like Taz is coming across on a 2 year deal. Hope he enjoys his time with the Tigs.

Other than, you know...the same industry source who reported CCJ was likely to choose North also reported that CCJ was unlikely to consider walking into the PSD.

While Coleman-Jones could theoretically walk to North Melbourne through the pre-season draft for nothing should he choose to leave Richmond and accept the Roos’ offer, he is unlikely to pursue this option and would want a trade were he to leave.

That was before Tarrant became a factor. Latest update

That sounds more like speculation to me rather than reporting info from an inside source. Gleeson has a better track record than Edmund also.

Richmond fans really need to let the idea of them getting pick 20 go. It is not happening.
Same could be said of North fans thinking they'll walk CCJ to the PSD.

As I've said from the start. A future 2nd or a swap of pick 29 for pick 20 and later picks seems like the fairest options to me.

Tarrant + 38 for CCJ + steak knives seems fair and keeps Richmond's compo safe, but not sure where Richmond would get the steak knives.
