Agree, but if the tables were turned, I wouldn't begrudge Richmond sending a player to the PSD without a favorable deal.
Despite what many of my fellow supporters think, the psd is there to help the bottom clubs get us contracted players without giving up anything in return.
Wouldn’t have begrudged north for doing it at all.
it is what it’s there for after all.

Confirmed by Dimma he has requested a trade to North.

I wonder what will come first, the thread title change or the trade itself?

Lack of denial is as telling as no confirmation (not that they can really confirm anything, it all lacks the certainty of FA's "exercising their right" until trade week starts).

Richmond will play hard ball on a trade for Callum Coleman-Jones, with rival list managers believing the Roos will have to give over pick 20 as the centrepiece of the trade.

The Roos are adamant they will keep that pick and hand over a later selection given Coleman-Jones played only nine games in four years at Richmond.

Richmond were genuinely filthy that former No.20 pick Coleman-Jones decided to move, although Damien Hardwick’s Fox Footy demand for pick one was very much tongue in cheek.

“CJ, for us he’s a required player. He has requested a trade to the Kangaroos which is disappointing but we look forward to receiving pick one coming back our way,” he joked.

North Melbourne could secure “CCJ” in the pre-season draft but players don’t want to use that avenue because it leaves their former club without fair compensation.

Jack Martin and Jackson Hately only used that avenue in recent years after trades fell through at the last minute.

The other bit of leverage the Roos have is departing free agent Robbie Tarrant.

The Tigers would normally trade for North Melbourne defender Tarrant with a late throwaway pick so it didn’t dilute their incoming free agency compensation for Mabior Chol.
That pick might only be a third-rounder but it could help the Tigers move up in the draft order.

The Roos would have to be prepared to do a trade on Tarrant instead of letting him go so it will be up to the Tigers to play nice on a trade.

Interesting article. Starts by saying Richmond will play hardball. Proceeds to then say why Richmond will play nice.

This is totally going to the PSD pick 1.
All set up now.

"Rival list managers believing the Roos will have to give over pick 20 as the centrepiece of the trade."
I don't think you're going to get him for pick 38. Pick 20 will probably need to be involved, maybe not in a straight swap but as reported in the HS as "the centrepiece of the trade".

CJ isn't going to be too thrilled about going to North via the PSD. I think you'll find he won't want to hang us out to dry after we didn't do that to him last year.

Those articles rarely make any more sense than us Big Footy flogs.
You're 100% right in it saying Richmond will play hardball and then explains how North have all the advantages in the dealing.

Understand why you're hopeful of this. As has been echoed throughout this thread though, it does not make sense from a North perspective given the circumstances.

Personally, I'm of the belief that if given the choice, North would prefer to retain Pick 20 (at risk of not getting CCJ), then trade it for CCJ.

It's alot of fluff isn't it.

At the end of the day, Tigs are well within their rights to ask for 20, and likewise North are within their rights to politely decline. I'd imagine there will be a few days of posturing before a reasonable exchange is made.

Maybe North look to split 20 with a third party so to improve on 38.

The clubs will already have had preliminary discussions.
Its not like they have to wait for trade week to start talking.
This reads to me like North have offered pick 69.

This is where I think things will head, but rather than a split, an upgrade would probably make more sense given all of the picks we have. Something like 20 + 38 for CJ + 28.

I know a lot of North fans think they don't have to compromise because of the PSD, but I feel that CJ would be just about the last player in the league who would want to go down that path. He let the club down big time last year, and we stuck by him. I think he'd have to be a really terrible person (which he's not, he just made a mistake) to walk without us being compensated.

So they should.
North offers 69.
Richmond demands 20.
Agree on 38 which IMO is mildly in North's favour but whatever.

The article itself is utter trash.

Richmond will facilitate an easy trade, as they have consistently done over the last few years. It's part of the culture that makes players want to come to the club - that they will be treated a certain way. Any club doing the dirty against their players (see Dons) will struggle to attract quality players.

There's no way North's offered pick 69. Probably offered 38, which isn't "mildly in North's favour", it's unders.

Sounds like a decent deal to me.

And you are correct re: PSD.

A few North fans seem to think that CCJ is leaving in untenable circumstances and wants to flip RFC the bird, which he isn't. A trade that both sides can live with will get done.

I think given the circumstances it's hard to argue that CCJ is worth pick 20 and will get us that pick. North won't trade it to us straight up, they have to do what's right by themselves too.

Bloke is uncontracted. Trading with the wooden spooners. Yes I think he's worth a pick around 20-25 myself at the moment but we really have our pants down here.

Solve it:
Trade CCJ for Tarrant and 38.

pros:
-allows chol compo to exist (band3/4)
-can restructure the Tarrant money however they like

without a trade by north the Tarrant compo WILL cost tigers pick 30ish so if that is the otherwise sunk cost, this option provides relative value for all parties.

i will see myself out.

This comment is so overrated.

Do you actually think players truly give a shit about the club they are about to leave being fairly compensated?

All they care about is get to by to their club of choice on the money they are after.

It’s a bullshit PR line, a player isn’t going to turn around and say I no longer want to go now because the club I am leaving is not being compensated fairly.

CCJ will get to North regardless if the clubs can’t agree on a trade, so I don’t think he will lose any sleep over any trade negotiations.

What's comforting is Richmond clearly rated him as a massive part of their future.

Generally you aren't "filthy" when a player you don't mind leaving asks for a trade.

He's probably our best KPF options after Lynch and Jack. And can ruck.

So yeah, he was developed for a purpose and he will never fulfill that at Richmond. Not surprised the club is extremely disappointed but you can't keep them all, especially when you are winning a lot of games of the years and the kid has to wait for a long time.

Is North likely to get any compo for Tarrant? If age is a factor then being 32 works against him, and I doubt he'd be on big money.

I would say you're probably right that most of time the player just wants to get to their club of choice. But I think in this situation CJ and his management would be telling North that they really don't want to go down that path. I'm sure CJ has a conscience.

Plus, he would get absolutely slaughtered in the media for it. Some have already started.
