Traded Cameron McCarthy [traded to Fremantle with picks 7, 33 and 71 for pick 3]

It was known he was "homesick" and desperate to return home predraft!

Hence, "Run the Risk"!

Then why on earth would he have signed a two year contract extension? You're claiming something literally counter to what he did himself.

He is not in jail!

Again - explain to me how exactly his health and future is at risk by not trading him to Fremantle, given he's at home and getting his wage from GWS despite not playing for them.

Why not, it happened for Lance Franklin, Harley Bennell, Charley Dixon, Patrick Ryder, Patrick Dangerfield and quite a few others, so please, why not?

Out of contract, club decided to get rid of him, out of contract, relevant example - Essendon could have chosen not to trade him but Port Adelaide made an offer that Essendon was willing to accept, out of contract, and quite a few others out of contract.

And what has the draft got to do with any of this?

Why does GWS have to trade him to Fremantle "or just risk the health and future of a young adult"? If "it was known he was homesick and desperate to return home predraft", why was he entering a draft that could send him anywhere in the country? You can't even make a self-consistent argument. At least most other Fremantle supporters work within the confines of facts rather than just making up their own.

Was it though?

And if it was why didn't a Young source a trade with WCE also? Why only Freo?

Why didn't Freo as a "destination club" or "employer of choice" or however you want to spin it, why didn't they offer overs in order to "bring home our Cam?"

Surely you should've seen the writing on the wall, the pain on his face, the hurt in his eyes and offered us bags of gold, just to soothe this precious prince's little ailment?

He got homesick because Freeo got in his ear with the promise of a big contract and to bring him home.
I suggest Freeo's conduct was unconscionable

The Jack Gunston trade might be a reasonable comparison
Hawthorn gave up 24, 46 and 64, and got Gunston, 53 and 71.
So Hawthorn gives up a late first rounder (which is diluted because of compensation picks etc), and goes back in the draft by 7 places in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

McCarthy is probably a bit more power forward than Gunston, which (slightly) increases his value.
He is still in contract and quality KPF are not in great supply at the moment which also adds to his value.
It will also depend a little on the depth of the draft.
I don't buy into the mental health card.....he has said he is homesick, but the certainty of the last draft period would not have been positive for him. You don't offer a 700k contract to a 2nd/3rd year player if he has an underlying mental health problem.

With all of that said, I suggest a pick in the high teens, and maybe a later round pick upgrade for GWS.
Freeo might need to trade out a player for a late first rounder or include a future 1st/2nd rounder as part of a package.

I am sure Hawthorn can help you out with pick 18 (and a later round pick) Lachie Weller ;-)

Yep and thats exactly what was offered, first two 1st rounders then, after the Bennell trade a 2nd and a 1st rounder but they were denied!

I really want to know what Lyon went in for in the last few hours knowing they didnt want those trades offered, surely he offered a player!?!

And their proposed trade was not enough.

Fair for them wasn't fair for us. We had to win the trade, they just can't get that through their dense scones.

The difference was that last year GWS was digging their heals in. Freeo could have offered the next 3 number one picks and they probably still wouldn't have taken it.
This year they will be more resigned to losing him and getting a reasonable trade done.
Somewhere in the Gunston range I suggest

Didn't sound like a player was ever put on the table by Freo. To be honest that is usually a good move especially with GWS refusing to trade, because shopping around players tends to brew discontent if they don't end up traded.

If you only knew when he signed that extention, maybe then you would see just how much it matters in this argument!

BY NOT TRADING HIM, there is a RISK it will effect him! RISK!!!

Oh so only a selection of players get to choose where they want to play, right i get it now. But thats not what you said ealier!

Hahaha because that is what it is, A RISK! If they keep him they are taking a risk, a risk every club takes when drafting/trading player. I cant believe i had to explain that...

This kid is worth a top 10 pick. If Freo end up with a top 5 pick, the they may get a late first rounder back.
This talk of 2nd and 3rd rounders is absolute crazy talk.
Your going to offer a player upwards of 500k your going to have to pony up a high draft pick.
Last year Henderson went for pick 8 effectively and Carlilse pick 5 ,26 with 16 coming back.
That's what key position players are worth and MaCarthy is a forward who has way more potential then either of those two.

Why did you attach that article, it was writen 4 days before the end of the trade period and Lyon didnt get there until a few hours left on the final day!

I said i would love to know why he went there, then thinking surely Ross didnt think his presence alone would be enough to get the trade done! With that in mind, i questioned if there was a player offered up!!!

Phew, there's some absolute dud posts in this thread.

It will be a mid-teens pick. Probably something that is offered up by the Crows for Neale. There would be some interest from Adelaide to make it a 2017 pick, which I think would suit GWS.

You will get him for next to nothing. There is not another club in the league that will stand in his way. GWS will cut their losses and move on.

Next year will be another bumper acedemy crop for GWS ... ;)

Cam is assisting the afl academy at a school my partner teachers at and speaking to people around him he is in a real dark place still in regards to his mental health. To state for a certainty that he will be back playing footy next year is just plain ignorance. He may not plsy for anyone next year...

I seriously question the health of the Fremantle fans who think a 2nd or 3rd rounder will seal the deal. You're seriously kidding yourselves.

Yep Freo fans are kidding themselves but if it doesn't get done Freo won't waist a top 5 pivk on him and will get him via the psd instead. Either way is fine because Freo won't be a top for contention next year so why waist a top 5 draft pick on him.

The PSD at the end of 2017 then, after his contract is up, and he has sat out 2 years of football.

You won't be getting him in PSD until next year if it even will still exist. It'll take a first rounder at the very least.

Mental health issues is just a cover-up for mummies boy. Very easily worth a first rounder and more. Kicks 36 goals in basically his first season of senior footy, having only played one game the year before. If you're going to let this one go, then may God kelp your football club.
Not even God can save freo in their current state

Ive worked you out. Start to lose an argument and you go personal.

I think we have worked out the child here.
What would a fair trade be to you? If freo get pick 3 and you give us McCarthy and pick 16 or your early 2nd rounder. Would that be enough?
