A part of me feels sorry for GWS, the media scrutiny last year was intense. Practically every media report coming out of Melbourne said that GWS had to stand firm following the Boyd trade to Bulldogs. Simply put, they were pressured by the media to stand firm.

But then I remember all those 1st round draft concessions, salary cap concessions, initial enlarged squad sizes, academy picks, COLA, and it's like.... Meh. Why should I care for a team that has possibly been handed a future premiership cup without doing it the hard way like freo did in its early years. Or like the Bulldogs are doing now through smart drafting and hard work.

It's hard to have respect for a team with a silver spoon in its mouth.

I don't think it's fair to say they haven't done the hard yards. They could have ended up like the Gold Coast instead of taking the recruiting & drafting strategy they did.

They have done a lot of things right, I know I am jealous of the concessions they received because of the lack of concessions we recieved when we came into the league.

Doesn't mean I have to like it though.

There is nothing to gain for gws trading him for a pick they wont use. Which means either freo's first pick or a top five player. ie. No deal with freo.

Yep exactly

Freo can't give them a pick they need unless a compensation pick comes their way that is very high. Freo won't give up 3 so no deal.

The following trade window he can pretty much walk to Freo.

Hopper's the only 2015 draftee getting a game and he's an academy pick from Ballarat, the other draft picks from 2015 are NSW academy players also, so they're probably not too fussed about them wanting to go home so there wouldn't be much need to sign contract extensions for local kids who have barely played a game.

Plus, pick 19 for O'Rourke is looking like a pretty good trade for the Giants, O'Rourke can't get a game.

Hopper is from Leeton, NSW. Educate yourself before commenting on things you know nothing about.

Only relevant to the comment about him being on the list for a whole year and not playing a game..
It's not the end of the world and most lists, including our absorb them every year.
Him staying on the list next year and not playing again whilst highly unlikely, is still an option.

But he (Balic) did play.. About 5 games.. So not really the same thing.

No way GWS want this going on another year, they've just made a prelim, they'll wash their hands of McCarthy and concentrate their efforts in keeping the core of this team together. Every dollar saved on paying McCarthy to sit on his couch in Perth is a dollar that you could pay a Lobb.

Future 2nd rounder is still my thoughts

Balic played zero AFL, almost exactly the same number of games as Cam, and Pickett and Ahern and any number of others.
Probably right though, and I hope so for all involved.
