Roast Can anybody explain what benefits Danyle Pearce brings to the team?

Based on what
Quite a lot actually. He stuffed up his first two kicks, but after that he played a significant role in getting back into the game and his kicking was pretty good. His second quarter and third quarters were actually excellent and even the commentators noted he was one of the players who got as back into the game. He had a hand in a number of goals and was far from the worst in the last quarter too. Im only saying he was decent and that his form has picked up significantly since the Carlton game. My point is actually that again only a handful of comments on players who were far, far worse yesterday and again D>Pearce is the scapegoat. Igbo, Sutcliffe, Hill, De Boer, Balla, and plenty more were far worse. The extent to which D.Pearce is attacked on here is absurd.

Honestly, Omar, I think you are watching a completely different game sometimes. There was not one point during the game where Danyle's performance could be classed as "excellent". I also didn't hear the commentators make any mention of him being one of the players who got us back in the game, but I did hear them criticising him during one passage of play where we had a run on and he held the ball up too long and killed any chance we had of capitalising on it.

Salim you like d.pearce, suban ,Dawson ( I still like him) ,so keep supporting them as I wait for some new toy toward September and 2017 season.;) please don't you even suggest d.pearce play for peel this year. I already saw suban what a painful experience.

If C and D Pearce, Suban and Dawson plus the regular Freo boys play for Peel in the finals chalk in a premiership.;)

O no , give them the test against subi this week. If they lose delisted them all provide Uber ,grey and tuck play against essendon.

If I were an opposition coach I would let my winger, playing on Danyle, chase the ball and ignore his man.

He just doesn't hurt with his kicking enough and I found myself wondering what we could be if he did, but he wouldn't be allowed to touch it if he did.

I wanted him to take the pressure off the likes of Hill but it hasn't worked out like that. Hopefully the inclusion of Bennell will achieve that while allowing Danyle more time to relax and hit his targets.

Watch it again.Yes they made the comment you referred to, but they definitely also said D.Pearce played a key role in second quarter rival more than on one occasion. Yep I agree we see different things watching a football game, but there is nothing wrong with that. My view is that some watch with a prejudice where they only see the negative. D.Pearce tons, loads, massively better than Hill, Ballaz, Suban, De Boer, Sutty, Spurr to name just a few experienced players yesterday.

I haven't had a look at the Freo game yet but was standing in the line waiting for chips at East Freo, which incidentally are the best in town, and had a look at the TV . It was the first quarter and there was some nice handball coming out of defence with the last recipient being Pearce, virtually on his own who proceeded to fumble and turn it over. Decided then it was probably not worth watching a replay when I got home.

Yep that was a momentum smasher. Very poor game from an experienced player.

He was very, very, very easily in the top ten players in our team. There are plenty who deserve more criticism than him based on that game. Yep, he had a deadset terrible first quarter, but he responded to at least be decent overall.

Didn't notice it myself but I will take your word for it, like some people didn't notice that Ibbo had the world worst first quarter andd then actually had a good two quarters as the intercept marker.

But these are experienced players and shouldn't be making such basic errors.

I can pick ten players ahead of him without even trying:

Blakely
Barlow
Collins
Crozier
Dawson
Griffin
Langdon
Neale
Taberner
Weller

Don't waste your time , nobody got d.pearce talent in our team. everybody know he clogged our list here.

pearce is a tease.

For every brilliant thing he does- he does 5 equally horrible things.

He strikes me as lazy- front runner- who loves the glory but doesnt want to dig in when things going the other way.

Problem with a lot of gun juniors- grow up being placed on a pedestal and find it hard to step down to the level of the 'average' man/player

You're basing your support of Danyle based on something that Brown, Ed, Derm or Dwayne Russel said? My god.

Danyle was terrible yesterday. No awareness, no defensive accountability, no foot skills, nothing. Can't believe this bloke has been re-signed. Thought this may have been my last year of having to watch him spud it up.

Ibbo is either injured or just totally being found now that mcpharlin, Johnson and duffman are not running around. He is seriously average at the moment

Who cares what the commentators say? Most of them either gush excessively or make absurd, embarrassing comments (I'm looking at you Basil). Dennis goes alright though.

Yep no footy knowledge in that commentary team. I should just listen to the 'experts' on here with all their footy knowledge. The level of absurdity in the anti Pearce mob is truly embarrassing. If you think he played worse than Ballaz, Sutty, Walters, Suban, De Boer, Hill and plenty others than I would recommend watching footy with your eyes open.

Nobody said he played worse. He was equally as shit as all of them. It's only you who won't accept that.

It is only me in this thread which is designed as a place to visit for the anti D.Pearce mob. No insults. Ill just agree to disagree.

Does anyone know why it seems to be the team directive to get it to Pearce so he can deliver inside 50? Watching yesterdays game and indeed his whole career with us it just seems like hes always the one with that last kick which is probably why he always gets such high I50 numbers.

Now I don't think hes our worst and is front of a few to get dropped but I don't think this reliance on him is healthy for us or the team. Why Ross/Freo decided they wanted 2 more years of that I've got no idea. We've got classy youngsters in the wings in Weller and Langdon. Give them a bigger shot on the wing and transition Pearce out already.

There were 5 players in the St Kilda match who had a disposal efficiency below 70%. 4 of them had roughly equal contested and uncontested possession numbers. Danyle had 5 contested and 18 uncontested. Although Danyle's contested numbers are usually a little higher proportion of his overall, these numbers are fairly consistent with his career. It is not good enough for this proportion of contested vs uncontested.
