Can North still win?

No team had won from third until 1975. We re-wrote history then and we can re-write history now.

1898 - Fitzroy - 3rd
1900 - Melbourne - 6th
1912 - Essendon - 3rd
1916 - Fitzroy - 4th
1922 - Fitzroy - 3rd
1926 - Melbourne - 3rd
1945 - Carlton - 4th
1949 - Essendon - 4th
1965 - Essendon - 4th
1969 - Richmond - 4th

If I'm not mistaken the Roys won the Flag and the spoon in the same year with that one.

Spot on. Arguably the biggest anomaly of any season before or since. Majority of the clubs had pulled out as they could not field full lists due to the Great War. Also the shortest season at only 12 rounds.

Anyone who thinks we can win the flag this year is a fantasist, from the same mould as those Richmond flogs who thought they'd beat the Power last weekend, simples!

Your team was knocked out Saturday night, of course they can't win.

Apologies, I should have said since the adoption of the Page-McIntyre system in 1931. Actually I'm surprised there were premiers from outside the top 2 using the old Argus system because it was very heavily weighted towards the minor premiers. IIRC the minor premiers "qualified" for the Grand Final irrespective of whether they won or lost their first final.

But that's incorrect as well as shown above. North were however the first side to win from 3rd under the McIntyre final five system, which was introduced in 1972 with North winning in 1975. Under the final five system 3rd actually had a greater statistical chance to win the premiership as they were given a second chance.

Actually your stats show that I'm correct.

Wow well be up against it against the swans.
At least we are huge underdogs and it's at ANZ.
There is the danger that we've gone to the well too many times as far as close finals go this series.
Just wrapt to be deep into September atm.
Balls deep

i wanted to post a new post but i am not aloud too. i left a Australia in 2000 and returned this year. interesting nothing much has changed. North are still a lock in for their preliminary :). I wanted to find out my chances of getting a grand final ticket. back in their day I just queued up overnight and got one. now they have a silly ballot which seems stupid. why can't them die hards queue up. Anyway I am a priority two member. how many priority one and two members are there. What is my chance of getting a ticket if we make it? Does them face priority 3 ticket holders have a ballot mean they expect all priority two members to get them? been out of country ten years so not heard how ticketing now works. If someone could put this in a new thread that we'd be great
