How the hell Stuart Loewe can sit on a tribunnal hearing for a St Kilda player?

In order for any rule or law to be seen to be fair there can be no hint of bias on the people hearing the case. Surely an ex St Kilda player who handed his number down to Kosi cannot be seen to be indpendent regardless of what they do.

This is what ********s me about the AFL, they are amateurs, how hard would it be to avoid this?

As noted in another thread I thought the charge was bollicks this is merely a thread on the operation of the tirbunnal.

How can Andrew Makay sit on it and give it credibility. He was caught for draft tampering.

Next will be Bradley and silvangi.

Oh come on you guys, you really think he treated Kosi differently. Remember he was also on the panel when Gehrig got that 2 match suspension for a jumper punch which wouldn't even be reported most weeks. No one was complaining of bias then.

A bit like a club pres calling games and having a huge amount of control on what we see and what we don't and hosting a footy show, the only one on air prime time.
There are ex players running the AFL in all sorts of areas, the AFL presidents are ex players ( a couple from Nth) did they manipulate the leaugue for old club purposes? Once again I would like to congratulate you on another monthly BF FIMA Morgoth. ......"""APLAUSE EVERYONE""

Have you been sniffing glue. Whats that go to do with this topic.

Firefool

I hardly defend eddie blindly.

Do you actually think it is right to have ex players sitting on the tribuanl when one of their former team mates is up? Surely even you can see the perceived problems this creates?

If you can't you will win your own award cos anyoen with a brain can see the problem.

I think you should study my post a little closer, have a look at the part where I talk about the AFL being run by ex footballers, the whole of the AFL.

Oh dear  Just about everything.

so if you think that eddie has a coi, does stu lowe have one as well?

i think it is unwise to have an ex player involved in the hearing of a player from his club.

the perception of there being a conflict of interest is as good as there actually being one, whether it exists or not.

schwab mentioned in the interview about him leaving the afl that he is getting involved in a tabcorp and if he does stay on with the afl, he would do both. i don't like the idea of someone who may control the reporting of players to be involved in the business of taking money on whether teams and players win or lose.

I actually agree with morgoth (for a change).

While I don't think Stewie would be compromised, he's too close to the current squad to be viewed as completely impartial.

Could you imagine him rubbing out Rob Harvey? :)

Yep, maybe Andrew could inject a few Mill into Nth to keep them afloat.

Now why would you say that. Not one North fan has said anything here.

8 cents in the dollar.

As if that'll ever happen.

I was surprised to hear that Stewie was one of the panel presiding over the case. He wasn't just an ex-teammate but a big mentor of Kosi's.

I don't think there's a problem with the result though. Loewe or no Loewe that incident was not worth a week and most people here know that's the case.

As someone said before "He was on the panel the night they rubbed out Gehrig for the softest incident of all time".
Yeah he's real biased.
To my reckoning he owed us one.

FFS I am trying to highlight the fact that there are heaps of conflict of issue situations in the AFL, I was merely highlighting examples of possible conflicts, ffs

Yet you want to defend the biggest coi of them all? FFS, hosting a footy show, calling games, they dont alter the outcome of a match, presiding over who plays and who cant is the worst COI that I have ever seen

Sorry I can't see the relevance.

Maybe you could show me where Stewie is employed or holding an official position with the club? (You could start here)

I don't think it's appropriate to use former team-mates in the tribunal. It has nothing to do with a COI - potential bias maybe - but Stewie doesn't have conflicted "interests".

I guess you dont find any problem with a family member of an AFL player being on the tribunal?

Schimmer is also on the panel, he probably has as much reason to see him suspended as Loewe would of having him cleared.

At the end of the day, the contact should have been a free kick at best. There have been some face slaps allowed to go by that have had less forceful contact.

If Schimmer thought Loewe was trying to get Kosi off and was not being impartial I think he would have made an issue of it and put the pressure on Sexton to side with him on a guilty plea.

But, I think anyone that goes on the panel treats it seriously and can do the job without bias. I do believe the panels are chosen well in advance irrespective which players front up. If the AFL had any doubt if a person could be biased in a case involving players from their team then they wouldn't have been chosen for the job.

As a support, I am glad Kosi is playing. It would have been a lesser victory if we beat the Saints again with a diminished lineup. I want to see a full side playing and if we are good enough to get the points on merrit rather than being fortunate to be at the right place at the right time.

I think the Saints should win, but it gives us a chance to have another good hitout.
