We certainly can make finals, but it is very unlikely now. The way the season has unfolded, it is quite possible teams on 13 wins may miss finals, and if we only manage to lose 3 more games, then we are the most likely team to miss out on 13 wins, due to our woeful percentage. Seems we may need to go 9-2 from here to make finals a certainty, which will be very tough, given we've not beaten a single team currently in the 8, and have to play a number of them in the run home.

Hoping we can at least get some wins against teams that do play finals in the coming weeks to help us continue to build confidence into next year. Plenty of development still to happen in this group, so do think we necessarily need to worry too much about playing ourselves out of the pointy end of the draft this year. With further improvement from the current group we can hope to begin to attract top level players outside of the draft, an area we've struggled with since the 3-peat (despite having down well with a few unexpected gets that look to have performed above expecation - especially in the last trade period or two).

Geez, there's a hell of a lot of "We might not scrape into finals this year" which is tempered by "but we'll definitely be playing finals next year" in this thread.

Really? Did we pre-purchase a position in next year's top 8 that I 'm not aware of? Yeah, there is a level of expectation that we'll improve further next year but injury and form are such intangibles that you just can't measure their effect. Anyone expecting finals next year as a fait accompli may find themselves Iin a world of pain. Don't assume it'll just happen... that just makes you Carlton.

That Port game is really going to come back to bite us but just missing out will drive us in 2025. Still stranger things have happened but it will likely be decided by percentage.

Should we sneak into the finals we will be making up the numbers if our final is played at night. The AFL in its infinite wisdom has put the Hawks in grave yard timeslots as we play such boring defensive uncompetitive footy (who isn't looking forward to two crows Friday night games as well as the saints?!)

Only hope the final is a day game as we won't have played at night since round 5 in April against the Suns.

When the fixture came out, the vibe was Geelong had quite an easy fixture and hawthorn quite hard

Play each other twice along with Adelaide and north

Cats other double ups are Carl wb stk. hawks are coll gws rich. Stacks up quite even half way into season. Cats a shade harder cats have HGA at cattery but hawks still have York park

Not only similar draw but have already played 7 of the same opponents out of 11 rounds not including playing each other for similar results 5 wins 2 losses v the same teams. Cats got a closer loss to Melbourne and a bigger win over north, plus beat hawks by 36 points

Cats also beat Carl Richmond, lost to GWS who hawthorn are still to play
Hawks lost to syd coll ess, who cats are still to play

Neither team have played freo or wce yet. Hawks get freo home, wce away. Cats get freo away, WCE home


Short answer. Cats draw has been easier up to now, and have 3 more wins. It’s similar for hawks going forward. Have had similar results v the same teams
