Carey or Ablett

The point is if you can tell somebody is fit or not from a photo.

And yes somebody with a gut like GAS’s in 1994 would not be the fittest person at the club like the other poster was saying. If he was it would be quite concerning but would maybe explain why you never won anything with him.

So now you believe in the eye-test? Interesting.

It’s not the same type of sport. Have you seen the super-heavyweights? They are all blobs, being that heavy gives certain advantages for that sport that will win you the match, not the case for AFL.

And besides I reckon Naicos would beat Tyson fury in a beep test/endurance run no problem. Guess which one has the six pack.

Lol.

Super heavyweights like Butterbean etc are not taken seriously and don’t fight 12 rounds. They fight 3, 4 and 6 round fights.

12 round title fighters are incredibly fit. They have to be. And fury isn’t a slugger who relies on being big. He’s one of the most skilful heavyweights of the last 30 years, fights off both sides and doesn’t limit himself to one particular method.

And he looks like a pudding.

So we can add boxing to the list of things you haven’t got a clue about.

Again, avail yourself of information that IS available to you instead of looking at an image.

You have all these resources at your fingertips to find out information, anecdotes, data, footage, match reports, eyewitness accounts, all of which you can use to put together a tapestry of basically any sport or sportsman you can name, and you refuse to do it because you’re so preoccupied with just forming an opinion based on an emotional trigger.

You’re doing it right now arguing with someone who is not even trying to say that Gary Ablett Sr is a better footballer than Wayne Carey.

Look I’ll just be honest, from what I’ve seen we don’t have any definitive fitness test data to compare the two players. Given that I’m going think the tall guy with the six pack (Carey) would be a better athlete than the short fat guy (GAS). That fair enough or nah?

Most people would agree.

I'd agree in part, but I'd caution against using that as your only evidence. If you've ever watched much combat sports, quite often the guys who have the most impressive physique tire quicker than the "short fat guys"
I know it's not the same sport, but it applies.
A lot of people criticised Dane swan back in the day for being short and fat, but he would run rings around Chris Tarrant any day

Oh yeah I agree it’s not always true. It’s a little hard in this case especially when GAS’s whole deal was that he apparently didn’t rock up to train at all. The onus is sort of up to the GAS advocates to prove the alternative. It didn’t come around for no reason, and the pic I put up earlier backs this up as well, I don’t see any super impressive “rig” there.

Well no, it’s not.

He’s a former professional athlete known for his freak physical skills, as testified by everyone who ever played with or against him. His speed, power, strength, stamina and leap.

You’re a someone on the internet who thinks he’s disproven this with a picture of a guy from Google images.

Why is the onus on anyone else to prove anything?

This is a good post. How many times did anyone ever see GAS handball or short pass off to a teammate in a better position ? He was the ultimate individual and selfish player. Didn’t train hard. Didn’t provide leadership. Didn’t pass. Didn’t bring others into the game. Coaches often say the very best players are those that make players around them better. Not sure GAS ever did anything on the field with the intention of helping his teammate succeed.

Doesn’t mean he wasn’t a superstar .. he was. But he was a sh*te teammate.

You won’t watch this but you should. That’s his peak for me.

LMAO I bet Naicos would end up in intensive care after stepping in the ring with Tyson Fury. But in reality it don't mean Shite just like a beep test between the two of them.
I have a serious question have you ever been wrong?

Even a beep test: all that would prove is that Daicos is quicker. Fury wouldn’t be able to keep up, I have no doubt about that, but he would be able to run for days.

For his fight with Chisora, Fury weighed in at 123kg.
During his prep he started off at over 130kg and apparently did a 10km fun run in 50 minutes.

For reference, in his 2km time trial, 2km remember, not 10km, Daicos who weighs 52kg less than that, and 22cm shorter, runs his kilometres in about 3:30. He’s also 14 years younger.

Now in relative terms, I would say the big guy is pretty f**king fit based on all of that. Yet again, when you look at a photo of him, even when he’s actually in the ring, he looks like a security guard they just pulled out of a pub.

Edit: apologies to Daicos his KMs were 3:15 for his trial I undersold him

endurance is the key need to be able to run all day

Like his freak kicking ability that’s proven to be worse than than Vickery’s. Like that?

And if you want to to talk about well known. It’s well known GAS couldn’t be f’ed training and often rocked up drunk, people don’t make up crazy things like that from nowhere.

Which is explains the keg in the photo. So yeah come back down to earth for once and stop simping for a guy who doesn’t even care about Geelong.

Well at least it’s good to know that you do.

Bed time little Falcon. Suspension incoming

I saw GAS up close one day -

I pulled up to Winchlesea Cricket Ground boundary line one day in about the late-'80s. My mate was playing for Winchlesea against Torquay. GAS played for Torquay.

By chance I parked right next to GAS who was sitting with his back to his car wheel stripped to his shorts. Funnily enough, he was reading a bible.

I didn't say anything to him but what I did was notice his 6-pack and the rippling muscles all over his body.

Believe me, at that stage he wasn't 'fat' - and I believe he never was during his playing days. He was a rock-solid ball of muscle. To claim he was anything resembling 'fat' is a total crock.

He is the greatest player I have seen pull on a pair of boots by a country mile, way better than GAJ, Carey or anyone else. And I believe anyone who actually saw them both play in the flesh would agree.

Geelong plodders saying Gaz, North plodders saying Duck, who'da thunk it.

It's close but Carey had more of an impact all over the ground (hence lower goal totals) and was a better contested mark, although Ablett had the better specky and highlight reel plays.
North won the 1999 Grand Final when Carey moved to the centre, such was his impact.

On a related note, Brownless < Longmire
Carey was a better contested mark!??? Are you serious??? Not saying Carey wasn't a great mark but GAS was on a different level to everyone else.

GAS took more contested 1-handed marks in his average game than most players (Carey included) took in their entire careers. You obviously never saw either of them play (apart from TV replays).
