Wouldn't actually have hurt us much this year as it turned out. Would have made it harder for the Lions to get Ashcroft Mach 2 though.
Every club will need to pay more, the main bonus is having first access
My biggest pet pieve with the Northern Academies is that they were, to some extent, intriduced to offset the lack of f/s selections available to them but that access has never decreased.
I think the access to Academy players should be limited to a rolling 5 over a 5 year period, so they can take the best of the best but they can't get a CONSTANT influx of top 5-10 picks for effectively very little. It would also mean that their recruiters would need to take into consideration upcoming draft pools from their academies and possibly pass on GOOD prospects if GREAT ones are comming through they they would otherwise miss if they have met their limit.

They're about more than F/S matching. If that was the case, Adelaide, Port, Freo & WC would also have Academies. It is about developing local talent as they're in non-footy areas so getting local, and easily retainable, talent is part of it. As is growing the game, which I understand seems somewhat abstract to natural footy areas because you don't see the changes or benefits first hand and just get told "it's growing the game" and have to take others words for it.
As someone who has grown up on the Gold Coast and played footy here, I can say that the participation levels are way up, but so is the standard. The academies are doing their job in growing the participation and standard of talent on the Gold Coast at least. I have 2 cousins in the Suns academy and have of course followed their junior careers and the kids playing here now are 10x better than in my day. (Except for me, naturally
). Some schools even have footy programs now, which was never the case before. I think if academy picks like what the Suns have had the last few years keep happening tweaks will certainly come - they are outside the norm, though. Academies have never provided the amount of picks the Suns have lately, so we'll see if that continues or if it's just been an anomalous couple of seasons. If it does, changes will certainly be coming.

All juniors in the elite programs are restricted to a quota of games, including school, under 18/19s, rep games - the clubs are not hiding or stopping them playing - the AFL is managing it for them.

Looks like he has a bit of size. Listed as 190cm hut could have grown since. I'd imagine that courage and toughness wouldn't be an issue.

There was a mention of Harry now being at 193cm in an article somewhere, can’t exactly recall where i read it, but wasn’t that long ago…
Hopefully at 17yrs still has some nice growth in him, looks to have a bit of muscle shape in the shoulders from that pic which is encouraging…

Harry Dean looks to be a fair size considering his age. Looking at him, he looks like someone who is going to end up key position height or close to it and fairly well built. If he doesn't then he may be coming in just in time for that third tall spot.

Cody Walker has progressed to phase 2 of the 2025 U18 Bendigo Pioneers squad. Currently 57 boys on the list.
Saw him recently at the Shepparton Junior Basketball Tournament with the Echuca Pirates. He's a good size.

Yep. 193cmin VIC Country train on squad.
Ideal case scenario matures 196/197cm, has a good, not great season at rep level and lands at IKON Park to form a long term partnership with HOF for the cost of (say) a third rounder.
There are a couple of likely lads in our Academy too, who may make our 2025 draft a very “easy” exercise for our recruiters.
Seeing Harry have a good consistent year, hopefully playing championships for VC, whilst displaying some encouraging potential as a future KPD draftee for us would be a great outcome…
I’ll guess that we will see how it all plays out for him…
Hopefully not coming at a high price, same draft range as HOF would be nice, Ison from people’s reports and my limited viewing seems to have some good potential as a Academy kid…
Might be a year we could get a little lucky with potential F/S’s and NGA’s…

The other “perfect fit” if he grown a bit is Tyson Gresham
Yeah his an interesting player, quite a bit smaller than his brother height wise, he is a touch smaller than the Wizard, he’ll need some tricks or a POD in maximising he’s chances in being drafted you would assume…
Haven’t seen him or the others play yet, so really can’t comment too much, hope the kid can have a good season and displays something good enough to have him in the conversation…

Gresham is in the NGA, so could potentially come in as a Category B rookie if he isn't bid on at the draft (like Malakai Champion this recent draft).
This is probably the best case scenario if he remains a bit undersized, gives him a couple seasons to grow into his body and AFL life.
You'd say Gresham as a Cat B is more likely to come on than Monahan and makes better use of that list provision.
Will not be a Cat B. Last height I heard was 167cm. Entering his 18th year. Not saying he will, but remember Crippa’s growth during and post his draft year. 180cm not impossible. Kid had some monster games statistically as an underager.
Forward/wing, nit a one trick pony. Is in Metro train on squad, so well regarded in his cohort.
Hopefully won’t command a high pick, but will be amazed if not in the National Draft.

Gresh is coming from a long way back fitness wise after recovering from a bad bout of glandular fever which set him back.
That's very true MITs but think the lack of size is more of a hurdle
Interesting to see him in action. We clearly didn't think he wanted it enough to offer him a spot.
Interested to see how he and jack Ison come on. Both have done good things as juniors.
Munkara Clark, on the other hand, is very much an unknown quantity. Interesting to see if he comes on as well.
